Forums - General - Possibly More Racists Voting For Obama than Against Him

@madskillz

This morning on The View, Sherri Shepherd said that she voted for Obama because he was black. She said, and I paraphrase "He looks like me and my son, so I voted for him. He shows us that someone who looks like us can do anything."

Now, I'm debating an ideology. You're dodging the question.

The fact that one black person, Sherri Shepherd, admits that she votes for Obama only because of the color of his skin, and not the content of his character.

Favoritism based on race is considered a form of racism in this country, despite the textbook definition.

If instead of Sherri, it has been a white woman who said, "I'm voting for Hillary because she looks white like me and my family, and it lets my white son know he can be president," it would be considered racism.

Therefore, there is a double standard here.

It's either racism or it's not, and the color of a humans skin should have no impact on what the public at large consider racist coming from their mouths.

I don't care about you, or Obama, or Hillary. Seriously. Screw the presidency.

However, I'll win the argument every time if you're trying to tell me:

A. Voting for someone because of their skin color isn't racist.

B. Voting for someone because of their skin color hasn't happened in the democratic election.

C. There isn't a double standard for voting, based on skin color, in America, between blacks and whites.

Silly denials are all but dodging my questions, and you shouldn't be afraid to answer them. They are just questions. Get a lively debate going and stop focusing on me, just because I don't come to the offtopic forums with bullcrap topics. Serious questions require serious answers to satiate me. You can't simply spew out the first shocked rabble you think of when you read my post. Put some thought into your reasonings and you'll find that I'm not as infallible as my reputation indicates.

...and I'm not backing down, bygod.

When you vote for someone because of the color of their skin and not their beliefs, or the content of their character, you are commiting the worst possibly kind of racism. Text-book definitions be damned.

It's happened, more than once I assure you, and those people, be them 2, or 10, or 90 percent of the black population, should be ashamed for the thinking, or lack there-of, that brought them to that decision.

Besides the obvious moral implications of voting for someone based on their race, you could also be hurting the country, by voting an unqualified person into the white house.

This isn't a commentary on this election. It's an ideal that should apply to every election, past present, and future.

Voting for someone based ONLY on the color of their HUMAN SKIN PIGMENT, is not only STUPID, it's RACIST, IMO, and that's the bottom line. I can't see anyone disagreeing with that.

Heheh, glad someone else noticed that, much like the GOP's Religious Right, the Democrats have pandered to minorities for years and provided very little in return for their votes.

It's funny that people like MadSkillz claim that the GOP has been shafting minorities for years when in fact, it's been the Democrats who have been shafting them. After all, most minorities aren't voting GOP, they're voting Democrat. And they continue to get shit on by the party in return for that loyalty.

Rocketpig, can you name any programs that the GOP has done for blacks? Seriously - they shun blacks and don't even try and hide it. At least the Dems try to make attempts to help blacks. There's no doubt blacks get shafted all over the place, and now, there's a Dem who's black and has a real chance at the White House and folks call it racism. Unbelieveable.

The GOP has written off blacks completely. They have actually cut programs that would help children (Headstart, SCHIP), pretty much axed Social Security and expect folks to make enough to contribute to their 401K. And wasn't it a GOPer - Madame Bush - who said the Katrina victims were better off? And another jackass said 'Folks in New Orleans should have gassed up their SUVs, grabbed their spring water and left.' There is such a disconnect among GOPers toward minorities, but especially blacks. And as a black man, I have a blast explaining why I'll never vote GOP.

In the end, McCain isn't wasting his time, as well as the GOP, courting blacks. From Nixon to Bush, they've never got the black vote, always Dems.

OT: Obama gets a lot of the black vote because he connects with a message for blacks. Hillary can't. If she steals the nomination, you can bet your bottom dollar blacks won't vote period. The candidate with the most delegates and the popular vote wins. If the supers don't want riots, they'll get the candidate who wins.

If Hillary gets it fair and square, I'll support the Dems and vote for her. If not and she steals the nomination, look out.

Shocking. The party that generally doesn't pull the minority vote doesn't cater to minorities. In other breaking news, the sun will rise in the east tomorrow.

You missed my point. Minorities, by and large, vote Democrat. Yet the Democratic party continually gives lip service to minorities and then when in office, goes on their merry way and ignores them.

At least the Republican party just straight up ignores them. That's better than pandering to them for a vote and then fucking them over once in office.

Then again, the GOP does the exact same thing to the Religious Right. Ah, God bless the Republic.

M8, what about Mr Powell and Condoleezza Rice?

Umm well u make it sound like it's weird... its fact, and i see it as normal human behavior-whether its right or wrong. Yeah black voters are revolving around him and as expected. And really i think black voters should vote for him, since they are still being ignored in some levels in the US, though many will argue about this. And in the end, whether we like it or not, the color of our skin or our religion we were born with or etc, does affect in what we believe in. so black voters can relate more to Obama than others, since they both have many common interests and beliefs. And its not everyday we get to see a black candidate, do we?

Also u say that Americans shouldn't be voting for some1 incompetent... hello bush??
i just think the whole American voting system is wrong, where its just abt Republican VS Democrat, and not about voting for a true leader.
I could go on, but i have other stuff to do

Haven't you gotten the memo? Those two are Uncle Toms.

Black people vote what 80-85% even when it is a white guy running as a democrat. Those who are independent switched over because of Obama's charisma and the history, so its probably only 10% who fit into the category outlined by the opening post.
