SMP Jamboree almost hit 100K this week, should happen in each of the next two week's.
Switch is on fire! Hardware just got a hair away from 100k sales, and Mario Party Jamboree got close to 100k weekly sales as well. Amazingly, Switch is up YoY for the past 4 weeks in a row. The Switch version of DQ3 is the one with the legs, selling almost 55K this week, while the PS5 version is not even in the top 10. Animal Crossing is likely a week away from crossing 8M physical, and Switch should cross 3M hardware next week too.
Meanwhile, I look at PS5 and this is actually what I expected from it all along. I think most of us posting in this thread have watched for years as PS5 hardware sells relatively well and PS5 software sells pathetically worse than Wii U or Vita. Due to recent price adjustments, it no longer looks like scalpers want to export PS5's from Japan and now we are seeing what the actual demand for PS5 is in Japan. We should really be thinking of PS5's Japanese install base being about half of what the YTD total is. When you think of it that way, a game like DQ3 on the PS5 has sold relatively well. The PS5 isn't a popular system in Japan though. The drop in popularity from PS4 to PS5 is almost as bad as the drop in popularity from the PSP to the Vita. Although you can really only see it on the software side and not the hardware side.
curl-6 bet me that PS5 + X|S sales would reach 56m before year end 2023 and he was right.
My Bet With curl-6

It seems like Nintendo's strategy of announcing Jamboree as the ultimate Mario Party game was a sucesss. I don't think a third Mario Party installment in a console soon to be replaced would sell so many copies if it weren't for this strategy
Master stroke of Nintendo to have Jamboree as their holiday game, it meant they had a big seller this holiday as well WW.
Gravity pulled PS5 back down to earth again; that price point is just too high.
Switch though outperforming last year is really something, it feels like Japan's enthusiasm for the system is limitless.
Nice to see Echoes of Wisdom and Mario & Luigi Brothership legging it out well.
Strong week for the Switch with it jumping back up to nearly 100k. I did not expect this but it's now very possible that it'll both get a 2nd 100k week this year and be slightly up for the holidays in Japan which would be insane. The PS5 on the other hand is back to rough territory with a 21k week in mid December that kills the chances of 1.5m for the year. The combination of the growth of PC gaming in Japan, the price of the PS6 and the Switch 2 being in the middle of its peak when the PS6 comes out could cause a significant decline in Playstation hardware over there. The main thing up in the air is what the state of the yen will be like a few years from now since the PS6 could be insanely expensive over there if it doesn't improve much.

Is there any bundle of these games in Japan this year?
