Forums - Gaming - Favorite games that never got proper sequels

Many of my favorite games don't need sequels in my opinion, but some of the ones that do...

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, obviously. The story was so good, the characters were so incredibly well realized, I wanted nothing more than to spend more time with them. Besides, they could really amp up the gameplay to be something deeper and more interesting - the "straight line" approach worked in this game but I'd love to see a sequel that gave the player a bit more freedom. The narrative was mostly wrapped up within the game but still left a lot of doors open for sequels and it definitely felt at the time like one was coming. A lot of the people behind the game expressed interest in making another one too, from the voice actors to the director to a lot of the writers and developers. Now, well... It's probably never happening. And that's just depressing.

Astral Chain. I suppose this is up in the air for now, but I don't know, I've a bad feeling it'll never happen... Any way, similar thing to Guardians, I'd love to have a sequel be a bit more open-ended. Less chapter-based like the first one and a bit more like, say, Nier Automata. Setting-wise I'd love a sequel that moves away from the police stuff, instead give us a different main character who lives in the suburbs like what we saw in File 6 of the original, and a more personal/intimate story rather than saving the world and stuff.

Star Fox 64. It got many sequels, but never a proper one.

and on that note, Breath of the Wild...

Willing to bet Astral Chain 2 happens on Switch 2. They were happy with the sales. PG is a busy company. The first one took 5 years to make. For all we know it's done and Nintendo is sitting on it. They often sit on games.

Blast Corps on the N64 comes to mind, though I would not have wanted a sequel that same generation, or even the next gen. Now, though, on today's consoles... that could surely be a Blast.

Good call. I wasn’t even thinking of that one. It’s probably the N64 game I played the most from the early period.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Kid Icarus Uprising.

Where is Kid Icarus

Hope so. In any case I hope it doesn't turn out to be a cookie-cutter sequel and rather something different.

Scratch Okami off the list. Kamiya is returning for a new sequel

I was on the "Okami doesn't need a sequel" boat, but well, guess we're doing this now (and by now I mean like in 6 years)

Another vote for Blast Corps. Probably the most fun game I played that never got a sequel.

No Binary Domain yet?
Binary Domain.

Deceptively brilliant game; on the surface it looks like your average 7th gen third person shooter, but the twist is that you fight robots, and the way they smash apart as you shoot them, drop their gun if you blow their arm off, crawl towards you if you shoot off their legs, etc just gives such satisfying feedback.

And social links. That was SWEEEET! Love Binary Domain. I hope Gears evolves and gets into stuff like limb damage like Binary Domain did it
