At first glance, I truly thought so. But after getting use to it, I think I like it a bit more than the launch PS3's aesthetics. That thing was just weird. I mean, it even shipped and was branded with Spiderman font for crying out loud! lol. And while Sony would never say such a thing publicly, the fact that the PS3 Slim reverted back to PS2's font and style is confirmation enough, imo, that they thought so too.
The PS5 from the outside looks like the cheapest product yet. Especially the slim where you can look inside and see the metal. The OG PS3 had nice materials and so did the PS4 pro. PS5 has really cheap hard plastic covers.
From a functional standpoint it's much better designed than both PS3 and PS4 (pro) which are vacuum cleaners under stress. Much rather have a big and quiet console than a small loud one. Xbox series still did a much better job though.
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
Yeah, PS5 looks ugly as sin, it's trying way too hard to look futuristic and comes off as overdesigned and tacky.
Their best looking console to me is the PS3; now that's how you make something look high tech and premium. PSOne also looked quite nice.

Forgot about PSone even tho it was my first Sony console. PSOne and PS4 are only good-looking Sony consoles to me. The PS3 looked like a George Forman grill.
It looks good in my opinion at least standing up. It would've looked better in all black though. The ugliest design is the PS3 super slim by far.
But not counting revisions i say the PS1 is the ugliest it looks like a kids toy to me. Even then i prefer it to most other console maker designs.

I loved the PS3 fat personally, one of my favourite looking consoles ever due to how sleek and powerful it looked. The super slim on the other hand looked fugly.
PS5 looks like the console Sauron from Lord of the Rings would make, just in an outdated glossy white finish (what it is 2007? iPod style?), so even Sauron would say it looks like crap.
Overall, I probably think the PS3 super slim looks the worst. I did not like the cheap sliding disc cover at all. I know they were cutting cost for the super slim but it just felt too cheap.
The PS5 doesn't look great at all, especially when placing it horizontally and the disc drive version. Definitely near the very bottom in my books. However the discless version standing vertically looks quite decent.
I saw what Sony tried to do with the PS5's design this gen and it technically worked. They wanted to make sure it stood out that no matter what you, or a friend that comes by your house and look at your entertainment center, they'll notice the PS5 because of its "unique" design. Nobody would ever mistaken it for a bland wifi modem or a subwoofer or anything of that nature. I suppose Sony also wanted to choose the color white this gen and change it up since the past 3 gens their consoles were black.
All they had to do was make the plates flush and they have a winner, just look and the difference it makes...
Pity I can't do this with my slim cause the disk drive is a separate white module.
