If we go by the premise of the OP, no this is not an "underrated" game in the least. It's got it's awards, it's scores and sold just right for the type of game it is.

Changed the title to focus on what I mean. There are many sites giving this a 6/10, that's underrated to me aswell as the aggregate at 8/10. It's worth far more than that especially on modern day aggregate scoring.

It sold over 1 million units on PS5 within 2 months.
So its likely doing fine.

I havn't played it myself, but heard many people say it's combat and animations are great.
Even though I havn't played it, I think its probably like others have said.
Its atleast a 8 outta 10 (or world of mouth wouldn't be so positive).

The same people that likely gave 9's and 10's to Dragon Age - The Veilguard.
Theres too many politics dictateing review scores in games for metacritic/opencritic to be all to go by.

I bet it scored lower than it should, because of "hot female's".
But sold better for it :P  (reviewers are just out of touch)

(If you read my status, it should be very clear why i have not yet picked up Stellar Blade lol. Not saying it's immoral to play the game, I just struggle very hard with the thought of playing it...would weigh on my conscious. They should add a mod that caters to weird ppl like me.)

In any case, game sounds like it's a ton a fun! I've only heard overwhelming positivity surrouding it...i don't think you're the only one.

It does a lot of things right but things like no animation cancels, buffered parries, etc. make it fall short of character action excellence. Also, as you said, the narrative is a letdown.

Still, a solid 8/10 and it sold like a million, so plenty of people must have liked it too.

Edit - LMAO, two "solid 8/10" tropes back to back. I swear I didn't see the other post beforehand.

Perhaps I am just insane. 8/10 user reviews on Opencritic also... naaaah, it's everyone else that is wrong. Yoko Taro even said this game does some things better than Neir Automata.

Sekiro suffers the same issues with the English dub yet gets 10's across the board and while I still rate Sekiro higher than this, it's confusing to see people not allow the game to be held up on what it excels at and instead on where it falters.

What does it do better than Nier Automata, fanservice? Nier Automata was also good at that but Stellar Blade is something else haha.

Combat it doesn't for what I played, and I completely doubt it can even come close of Nier Automata's story. Also doubt the music comes close to Nier Automata.

My absolute game of the year. I love it and can't wait for the Nier DLC. While the Nier influences are obvious it's also it's own game a hybrid of different action games. A little Sekerio. A little Nier. a little DMC. A little Resident Evil. Parts of it feel like a loving nod to PS2-era games. Its one downside is people have less patience than ever so they play the demo and think this is all this game is. SB is a the more you play the more it opens up and grows. I do wish the two big areas were more than big desert and bigger desert but oh well. It's not an open-world game and yet it invites exploration like open-world games. Which I also love.

It's not a Nier clone or a clone of anything. The OST is mostly from the same composer as NA and it's an excellent OST. It also does music that's unique to this game and not just sounding like Nier. You cannot compare combat between the two games. They're aiming for something entirely different. They're not aiming for similar things. SB is more block/parry focused and NA is more offensive/combo and dodge. Which is how PG generally does things. Story no but that's not fair either as NA has one of the best stories ever in gaming. SB is not aiming for that. It's more straightforward. So no robot orgies and suicides. No heavy philosophy.

Also, the demo is by no means representative of the full game.

I am playing it in this moment and so far it's a very solid game when it comes to visuals and gameplay. Some bosses tend to be a bit annoying with weird movesets. I am looking at you Solar Tower Stalker. But I think I would give the game a 8.75/10 so far.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

The character is too hot for gen Z/Alpha.

Yeah, it's gotta be the case, the game is too good to have so many 6/10's or even a 7/10 from IGN. I bet, like you said, if you overlapped the outlets who rated this as medicore there'd be a high score for Veilgaurd.

It does melee combat better, animations, exploration and Looting, visuals obviously and not the side quests themselves, they are weaker but the structure of the questing. Questing in this game is extremely fun even if most of the stories are weak where as in neir thr hook is the stories of the quests and to that matter thr general hook is so much more addictive than Neir Automata. Generally the areas I feel Neir Automata was a let down. I still would rate Neir Automata higher than this because of the overall all cohesion and the epic narrative and genre bending gameplay as well as many other things but it doesn't have to be compared to Neir Automata like Leynos said, it's not a clone, it may take heavy, heavy inspiration but lands as something very different, it also takes inspiration from a slew of other games from the last 20 years like Sekiro and DMC, it feels like a combination of many games, including but not a clone of Neir Automata.
