#6 Diablo

The first Diablo. The best Diablo. The darkest Diablo. The most unforgiving Diablo. Each kill matters when you find your way going down and down and down until you reach the very fires of hell. The sound editing is perfect. Almost all of the iconic sounds from this game have been transported over to later games in the franchise. Unique items were actually unique. One actually cared for the few townsfolk, something not replicated. The godfather of action RPGs and for me never beaten.

I have a bit of saying that when I do not play Diablo I wish I did. And when I play I just long for when I finish it so that I can replay it. The knock back present in this game will probably throw new players off. But it made foes actually challenging. The darkness and gory environments as well as some creatures roaring and rushing for you when you enter a new area in the randomly generated levels made it almost a horror game as well. And that ending. My God how long it stayed in my late night spoke outs, the implications and the feeling that after all that my journey might have only created another cycle of the dark lord of hell, Diablo.

I am generally torn between this one and Diablo 2 as the best of the series. 2 definitely improved on the gameplay and classes and stuff, although that game already started to have way too many item drops. Sorting through items to keep or to sell is not the most exciting thing ever. Diablo 1 still has the best atmosphere of all the entries, the darkest, the most fatalistic.

Also I miss the days game UIs were more artful. Look at the screenshot you provided with the demon and the angel in the UI. Sure, it takes a lot of screen real estate. But the seriously ironic thing is that owadays we have gigantic screens with high resolutions, but the most bland and minimalistic UIs.

Hey everyone. Sorry I've been absent for so long without any info on anything, it's been a really chaotic start to the year for me and I didn't really have the time and/or mindset to work on this at all. I finally got around to compiling some of the lists today, but I'll be busy over the weekend so hopefully I can pick things back up at the start of next week. I've given a one-week deadline for those who haven't finished their lists to do so, so I'm hoping to be able to wrap things up next weekend, but, we'll see.

Anyway, just wanted to update y'all rather than keep everyone in the dark.

Thanks for the update!

Take your time, I'm just glad that you do this at all. It is one of my favorite times in the forums.

#32 Hotel dusk Room 215

I really like this game, although I love the Another Code series even more. I am unhappy with Nintendo that they let Cing die (and NOA specifically is kinda at fault too, as Hotel Dusk and Another Code - Trace Memory in the US - sold best with the localization in the US, so when Cing made sequels to both they thought that would be work as well, but NOA for some reason didn't publish the two games in the US, even though Nintendo of Europe already had done the localization for the european release, and then Nintendo of Japan could've taken over Cing, as their debts weren't even that high, but they let them die). Anyways, Nintendo now holds the rights and they released Another Code remakes, so maybe this series sees also a new release.

I loved the first Another Code game. It felt really special and it utilized the hardware so well. never got to play the sequel since I lost the Wii to my ex when we split back then. Have the remake in my backlog, but currently play the Ace Attorney Edgeworth games as my adventure/visual novel fix. Cing was special. There are not many developers with their touch of heart in the industry.

#6 Diablo

I am generally torn between this one and Diablo 2 as the best of the series. 2 definitely improved on the gameplay and classes and stuff, although that game already started to have way too many item drops. Sorting through items to keep or to sell is not the most exciting thing ever. Diablo 1 still has the best atmosphere of all the entries, the darkest, the most fatalistic.

Also I miss the days game UIs were more artful. Look at the screenshot you provided with the demon and the angel in the UI. Sure, it takes a lot of screen real estate. But the seriously ironic thing is that nowadays we have gigantic screens with high resolutions, but the most bland and minimalistic UIs.

Diablo might be the only series where I actually have played all entries a significant amount. My rankings are probably a bit out there. I never really liked Diablo 2 the same way, there are a few things I prefer like runes more types of items and the horadric cube. And the mentioned classes.

For me, I'd rate the games something like this: Diablo 1 >>>> Diablo 3 (Before expansions) >> Diablo Immortal (as long as you skip the end game) >= Diablo 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Diablo 4.

In diablo 4 I feel like nothing I do matter. Diablo immortal is actually a good game for a moblie action rpg as long is one just play the story and skips the pay to win elements. But most Diablo-players live for the end game hunt of continuously upping ones character something Immortal sucks major dong at.

Diablo 2 is in a strange place for me since the things I like about the series I think either Diablo 3 or Diablo 1 does better. In almost all aspects I would put Diablo 2 as second best, second best story, second best atmosphere, second best classes, second best items, second best music and sounds and so on. It culminates as probably the best game in the series generally, but I never find a reason to play it over the first or third installment depending on why I want to revisit the games.
