Forums - Gaming - Am I the only one REALLY enjoying Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare?

Back when Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was announced, it quickly became one of the most "unwanted" games I ever saw. The trailer got a lot of backlash, and it had an insane amount of "dislikes" on Youtube, and the user reviews at Metacritic are... Well, not that good. Before upgrading my RIG, I couldn't try it, but I was always thinking if it's really that bad of a game.

Well, I'm playing it now. Finished 20 missions so far, and here are my thoughts.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is... Well, it's different from the rest of the series. It takes place in a far future, where space travels are really easy, and since humans are jerks, war is taking place even in other planets, moons and asteroid fields. At the first mission, I was really impressed by the visuals. Walking on a moon and having a giant planet as the backgrounds was a "Wow" moment for me.

At first glance, the gameplay is not really unfamiliar. You walk, run, jump, shoot, throw grenades... But the differences slowly makes presence. You can hover while jumping, throw robot seekers to kill enemies, and even use gravity field grenades that makes enemies (and yourself) float in the air. The enemies are still soldiers, but instead of saving the world, you are trying to save the Solar System here. Other than the traditional enemies, you have to fight robots too.

Another new thing in Infinite Warfare is the fact that you pilot spaceships and fight at outer space too. I admit that at first it was really weird to control the ships, but once you get the hand of it, it's not that hard, at least on Regular difficulty. Chasing enemy warcrafts can be fun too.

Well, but not everything on this game was enjoyable... The gameplay when you're floating on space like as astronaut in zero gravity were a bit confusing, since you have to rotate and it's somewhat hard to make shoots. At least, the grapple kills works really nice. The side missions where you have to raid enemy ships are not very fun too, beacause they're quite similar and I didn't really enjoyed the stealth missions, since I'm bad at this kind of game. I also found the upgrades and equipments before missions a bit useless, since you can get more weapons from fallen enemies, and even without any upgrades, I'm not having a hard time with it. Well, maybe it's more useful on harder difficulties.

My favorite mission so far was the one that takes place on one of the moons of Saturn. The visuals in this missions are amazing, the atmosphere and pacing was great, and I had a great time with it.

So far, this game would be an... Well, an 8.5/10 for me. If not for the zero gravity missions, the stealth segments and the ship assault missions that are not very impressive, it would be my favorite Call of Duty game. And I'm not exaggerating.

But this title still goes to the first Black Ops.

It's the only CoD I've ever liked, and the Campaign is cool, being a spaceship captain. I like the hub. I like Ethan. It's not as good as the Titanfall 2 campaign or gameplay released the same year, but it's solid fun. Reyes is voiced by BJ Blazkowicz himself. The TF2 movement is insanely good. IW is pretty typical, but the space theme and missions are fun enough that it's fine. I like the shield, and the dog fighting in space is cool. My only complaint wish it was a little longer and the hub area was a little more explorable.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

You're not alone!

I love Infinite Warfare. The multiplayer is a bit of a mess, but the single-player campaign is extraordinary. I'd call it the best campaign in the series, in fact. Love the hub area, love the side missions, love the mission diversity, love the relative scarcity of scripted events.

I actually like the ship assault sections the most, so I guess we disagree there

I bought cod infinite warfare in launch day just for cod mw1 remastered, so I never played Cod IW.

Great.

The ship assault missions aren't bad, but... I don't know, I feel like I'm enjoying the story missions much more. Also, the first ship assault I did had a stealth segment, so maybe it left a bad taste in my mouth.

You should try it.

If you like Call of Duty and space themed combat games, you'll probably enjoy Infinite Warfare.

Heard fantastic things about it! Not a big fan of FPS, though I’m happy to finally be hearing positivity surrounding this franchise.

I remember when gameplay footage was first revealed for it during one of the big press conferences. People genuinely liked what they saw until they realized it was a Call of Duty game. I think the game just suffered from bad timing. Most people were tired of CoD and those that weren't were eager to return to other eras. I haven't played it yet but it always looked like one of the more interesting games in the series (along with Advanced Warfare). I may remedy that before long.

Finished it.

I think this is now my favorite campaign in a Call of Duty game. Before it, it was Black Ops 1, but there's a high chance that Infinite Warfare outshined it.

But man... What a sad ending...

I enjoyed it too (the campaign at any rate; I couldn't get into the multiplayer) - it's gotta be the most underrated entry in the series.

There is a certain irony in people shitting on CoD for never really evolving or trying anything different, but Infinite was an attempt to do those things and clearly didn't sell well by CoD standards, so I'm not surprised they went back the churning out the same three sub-series every time instead.
