Forums - Sales Discussion - Yakuza Kiwami "selling like hotcakes" on Switch

The Yakuza series took a long time to come to Switch, in spite of the platform's success, only releasing last month in the system's 8th year.

In an interview back in 2022, the devs said they thought the game was too adult and "underground" for Nintendo's machine.

Now that it's out, the studio's director says it is "selling like hotcakes" and has exceeded their expectations "by a long shot".

"I think I looked at it a bit too conservatively," he added.

Nice to hear that the port is finding success; hopefully this means more games in the series follow suit.

I honestly thought the poor sales of Yakuza HD on Wii U would scare off SEGA forever. Great news

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

This sell rate in Japan?

Nice. Getting the physical version myself

Are they talking about global numbers? It sold only 2k copies according to famitsu

I thought I read somewhere that it wasn't released physically in Japan, but it did have digital cards you could buy for the game which was the 2k.

I'm sure that sold much more than 90% digital (worldwide) than physical, because the game costs only U$19.99 on Eshop.

The SKU that tracked on Famitsu was a code-in-a-box type deal, something Switch owners mostly dislike; the game had no proper physical version on Switch.

That’s good to hear Kiwami selling very well on Switch. I expect them to release Zero sometime next year on the Switch and perhaps Kiwani 2 on the Switch successor with later entries debuting there.

I didn't even know the game released on switch, lol. I always wanted to give the series a try. But it seems like it's capped to 30 fps on switch and people talk about some hickups here and there. I'm sure it's fine. But I just got it on Steam to play on my Lenovo Legion Go with glorious 60 fps, lol. It was also on sale for 10 bucks.

Still good to see it does good on Switch. Maybe we will get some more titles in the future.
