Forums - Sony Discussion - Is the PS5 PRO an utterly useless device at launch? Reviews are out now.

PS5 PRO

Worth the money 24 34.29%

Waste of money 46 65.71%

Total:70

I thought the digital foundry videos made it sound like that wasn't the case.

Makes me think, its atleast not useless OP.
This seems like a noticable differnce in performance and visuals.
Like base PS5 quality mode, at 30fps... is being matched in visuals and running 60fps.

To some people that might be of value.
Same with games that use raytracing.

I get it, I have non pisser technology but I've moved my recliners 3 feet closer to the TV, at about 5-6 foot depending on if I'm sitting back or on the edge if my seat and I'm testing out games from my 50 inch. So far, Rift apart is not noticeable at all, in the slightest. Stellarblade actually looks better in performance or balanced, it has a softer look and cleans up edge on stuff? The game doesn't look that great. Cyberpunk and TW3, zero differnce unless you are directly beside a light scoruce like a candle for the RT, Cyberpunkn RT is more noticable with all the neon it makes contrast better and things pop plbut on closer inspection there are no real reflection quality differncses, things pop more and that's noticeable but you really have to look for it. Dead Space no difference. REmake 4, no difference. I'm gonna leave it there, there is zero differnce, I have to sit at 3-4 feet to really start seeing the differences. . That's like 6 or 7 feet from a 70" plus TV which would be uncomfortable AF. WRC Generations surprisingly has a drastic change but it's a choice between 1080p 60 and 4k 30. It's very apparent at 6 feet but not apparent at 8-9 feet still.

What's really noticeable is the frame rate. That's the clear winner, PSVR 2 foes not have a big enough list to justify it. I'm gonna buy a Meta quest 3s instead of a PSVR 2, Screw it. It'll be supported longer all.

My whole argument is the distance from the couch and the size of the TV. I asked a lad on YouTube comments what size his TV and the distance and he said 43" at over 8 feet maybe 10, this won't make a lick of difference to him. Honestly people are going to need 70" inch TV's at less than 8 feet and people with those size TV's have big rooms or game on a monitor 4k monitor at a desk.

Also, did anyone see the Alan Wake 2 comparison, it can't hold 60 and the resolution is ass all so windows can now be mirrors and you can't really look through them anymore.

Ooooof, the Baldur's Gate 3 comparison was rough. The city of Baldur's Gate had terrible framerate issues, and because of the lack of a major CPU upgrade, framerate issues persist on the PS5 Pro.

Frame rate plummets on the majority of PC's and macs (M series), PS5 pro will be no different.

Oh, how bad does it get in the city? I'm still doing the Goblin camp quest area so I can't check.

I played on PC, but I know on PS5, it was going downwards into the 20s at launch. It looks like it has improved some. 30s-40s at best, but, looks like that's also the performance the Pro is looking at as well.

It's certainly not perfect on PC either. You need a pretty beefy CPU, but I'm at least able to get into the mid 60s at best.

For those that pre-ordered it or planning to pick it up in the future; no it's not useless.  All comes down to the buyer and their budget.

Also all these talks with needing to sit up close to see the details, that's always been a thing. When switching from 1080p TV to 4K TV the viewing distance reduced and you would have to sit closer to see all the 4K details in movies and shows. I'm sure the majority of console players are playing on a TV, but there are a large number of people (and growing) that are playing at their desk on a monitor sitting 2 feet away so they'll definitely see the upgraded details.

Seems like the issue with this is more about where a person sits than the console itself. The console doesn't decided where you put your TV and where you sit.

Yeah, the resolution war is over. Rather than focusing on pushing native 4K resolutions, developers will be dropping the actual resolution and let PSSR AI upscaling take over.
