What Split would you give it? 1 million, 24 hours, 3 days tracked?

A lot of “Romance” going on in the top 10

Ok but only 7k? Astro was already low with 13k. Digital might be high but if we estimate total launch sales for Sonic in Japan we would look at 7 k for Switch, maybe 5k for PS5 with PS4/ Xbox(one) basically inexistent with maybe 5k more we would be looking at a maximum of 17k. 1 million worldwide should put japan at around 100- 200k. 9% physical? For JAPAN? Sorry i don't quite buy that.

Why do you think consoles sales in Japan should account for 10-20% of global sales across consoles and PC?

I don't see any reason to think that Sonic sold anywhere near 100k on consoles in Japan, let alone 200k.

Yeah i mean 10 % of total sales being from Japan is for like popular Japanese franchises like Final Fantasy. Not exactly for every type of game coming out.

Did something happen to cause Switch sales to increase this week?
The new releases don't seem like the sort of thing that would cause a 9k increase.

The fact this is the Switch's 3rd highest week 43 is bonkers.

Maybe it could be in part because of hype for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake coming out fairly soon, its not impossible that a game that massive in Japan leads to an uptick in sales for the Switch, given that most will buy the game on Switch.

Interesting tidbit about Capcom's sales in Japan.

"The company sold a total of 20.02 million games so far for the fiscal year, which is down 11.4 percent year-on-year. 10.74 million or 54 percent of those sales were digital PC sales, while digital console sales accounted for 8.02 million units or 40 percent of the total. Physical game sales accounted for just 1.26 million units or six percent of the total.

Breaking down the total games sold, there were 3.09 million games sold in Japan"

You don't really see Capcom's games in the top 10 or 30 and I don't remember any major releases for Capcom in this period but they sold over 3m games in 6 months. The physical maximum was 1.26m, but those are worldwide numbers. Likely less than 1m physical sales in Japan (realistically less than 500k), leading to over 66% digital rate. PC is taking more and more marketshare in Japan and worldwide, but I still think console is quite strong in Japan relatively. This likely means a lot of sales on console in Japan are digital.

Capcom games are much more successful in the West than in Japan. Especially Resident Evil and Devil my cry

3.09m games were still sold in Japan. None of which really charted.

And Japanese sales will skew more and more towards PC for Capcom, given that big Capcom games will only come out on Xbox and PS consoles and not on Nintendo consoles, which will be the main console in Japan in the future as well. So Capcom PC sales will only have to compete with declining Xbox and PS consoles in the country, not exactly a challenge for PC in Japan.

As I said @bold.

Console marketshare is still probably stronger than PC in Japan compared with the west. Overall/WW was 54% PC vs Other. Japan probably had a better console ratio than that.

Historically, Romancing SaGa was quite the evolution take on the non-linear RPG formula back then. It was a cult classic back then and it partially explains the good sales it has in Japan. A 200K+ launch in Japan alone if you factor digital and physical is most likely along with Square Enix expectations I believe.

Don't know how it'll perform in the west but it did have more word of mouth and presence than recent SaGa titles. Hopefully it reaches that 500K+ milestone soon.

Anyway, it's an excellent game made much less obtuse by the remake.

Great sales week for the Switch too. Might increase incrementally in the coming weeks with the holidays coming and Dragon Quest III remake too !

Yeah I can't even remember the last time there were this many.

And yet, it hardly moved the needle at all in terms of hardware, with the Switch outselling PS5 by nearly 6:1.
