It's nearly 8 years old, there's no point defending it as it's on it's way out and this is confirmed by Nintendo. It was great back in 2017 but it's obsolete now. A Tegra X1 is not enough for success anymore and it's not hard to see that. If you think it's no problem missing out on games like COD BO6, dragon age veilguard, dragons dogma, D4 vessel of hatred, visions of mana then I don't know what to say. In terms of software Switch has had a bad year and that latest Zelda didn't do that well in sales.

The Switch is selling fine for its age so yes, a Tegra X1 is still enough for success.

The games you cited would never come to the Switch even when it launched. It always had terrible AAA support, many games skipped it... but that and being underpowered didn't matter and it sold 140m+, so to 140 million people having good AAA third party support is not important I guess.

I do agree it's been a shitty year compared to the past ones for the Switch but maybe that's because its being replaced next year, so Nintendo is focused on the successor? I really don't understand what this has to do with anything I've said but sure I agree.

In any case, I still think the Switch/PS5/Series are direct competitors, and you haven't really told why they wouldn't be. They're both competing for my money (and for the money of millions) like I said.

Quality over quantity. If mass producing obsolete hardware was the key to gaming success Sony and MS would be doing it too. Sony is ranked 1st in revenue and MS is 2nd so they are doing it the right way. Doesn't matter if Switch sells 500 million, if developers cannot produce the games they want on a Tegra X1, they won't develop games for it.

Of course all 3 systems compete directly. There's no quetion. Like i said, just because a prefered system is not the Nr.1 selling one does not make another Nr.1 system a "non competitior". That nonsense started when Nintendo was winning with the Wii.

By talking about support: For its 9th year we're about to enter software support is amazing. We will get MP4B, XBX, Prof. Layton, Pokemon Z-A in 2025 alone. And thats not all for sure. Of course a handheld's software support in it's 9th year isn't as shiny like in year 3 or 4, but that wasn't the case for any system. Not even the PS2 or the NES had so many great games in year 9. Nobody doubts that Switch sales go down. But they are not down on a level like the PS4 was till 2022 when it was discontinued.

Yeah it's been a weak year compared to others in the past but that's because it's the final year of the Switch, obviously. And I'll take it over the final years of any other Nintendo console lol.

The PS4 with all of its cross gen games is the only thing that is better imo, 2020-2022 were great years for the PS4.

If you're making an AAA game sure, the Tegra X1 is a major problem. But AAA games are not 100% of the industry. The Switch hardware is more than fine for indie and smaller titles, and I suspect they're not going to stop coming for it even after the Switch 2 releases. Just like these games didn't stop coming to the PS4 after the PS5 came out.

So Nintendo selling 140m+ consoles is bad because... they make less revenue (but more profit) compared to their competitors? Weird metric but okay I guess.

You still haven't explained why they don't compete directly and I don't think you will, so we're done here.

Geez. A 1950's Mig 21 fighter Jet is TECHNICALLY a competitor to a F-35 stealth fighter, but it's such an underequipped competitor it's not even worth talking about it as a competitor. Fighter Jets and Gaming both have something in common, they need modern technology to compete. Denying you need modern technology to compete in gaming is like denying you need modern technology in a fighter jet. Doesn't make any sense. Sonic/shadow generations runs like turd on the Switch. When people see it running like turd, they will buy it for another console instead. THAT is why Switch is not a competitor to PS5 and Xbox

Ok. Volkswagen is no competition for Mazda because i hate the fact the former outsells the latter. Its like saying the Iphone is no competition for Samsung. I do not want to attack anyone my friends but such talk for me is at least a bit of anger because one's prefered system is not the Nr.1 seller. All 3 systems (XSX, PS5 and NS) are gaming systems that play games physical and digital, are sold in the same stores in the same departement, target gamers young and old, there are games mature and everyone for all 3 systems, vgchartz compares all 3 systems so they do compete directly. Like the PS4 and the Xbox One destroyed the WiiU, the DS destroyed the PSP and also the Switch (sort of) destroyed the PS4 and nuked the XSX/XSS saleswise. After even the PS5 and the XSX/XSS are already down in their 4th year its unlikley one of those systems will catch up to the Switch's LTD. Sorry but thats the way it is.

Of course all systems have great games.

Being the most powerful isn't important, but being powerful enough is. I don't know why people have a problem with saying you need third party support on here. For obvious reasons your console needs to be powerful enough to have good third party support.

Powerful enough for what? AAA third party support? It's the Nintendo console with the best third party support since the SNES and it's doing more than fine without the lastest AAA games.

We are getting reports.  Arguing over if the switch is powerful enough to get games isn't a good fit for this thread.

If kept with in bounds it could be an interesting thread though.

It also seems kinda pointless with the switch two coming.

You are bound to love Earthbound.

Its not about being powerful, its about competition. Some people see other platforms as a threat, an enemy because their prefered system is not Nr.1. This is why they think they can determine what we are allowed to compare.
