Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 40, 2024 (Sep 30 - Oct 06)

Switch needs to sell another 780k to sell 3 million this year; depending on whether the final fraction of a week counts, that's either 12 or 13 more weeks, so it needs to sell an average of 65k or 60k per week respectively.

Whether it gets there remains to be seen, but it would be an insane milestone for it's 8th year on the market.

Just so everyone is clear on Switch and PS5 in 2024 by week 40.

Switch 2023- 4.063m
PS5 2023- 2.587m

Switch is more than half of 2023 already.
PS5 is far less than half of 2023.

Switch's lack of price cuts and price increases, and PS5s price increases have led to an incredible situation, where the older console declines far slower than the brand new one.

Seems like launch aligned PS5 is on the verge of falling behind PS4. Unless MH Wilds comes through with a miracle, it'll probably stay behind for the rest of its lifetime. (Data from Hiska-kun on Install Base)

The PS4 not launching till February 2014 in Japan still gives the PS5 a fighting chance at least by having a few extra months and one more holiday season though Wilds definitely isn't gonna sell as many PS5's as Worlds did for the PS4 so 2018 will be a rough comparison year for it.

This thread feels incomplete without the yearly comparison by ShadowLink93...

PS4 vs PS5 is going to be interesting to watch now; it looked like PS5 was set to win comfortably, but with the price hike that's looking less likely.
I expect PS5 will have a longer lifespan than PS4, but on the flipside it may stay at a higher price point for its whole life.
