Is it feasible for Switch 2 to have performance near Series S level at 400$?

Yes, pretty close in performance 34 42.50%

Not really, not close but... 35 43.75%

No, Switch 2 would be far... 11 13.75%

Total:80

Its going to be 1080p 60fps.
Going 4k whas the worst mistake for consoles

You're right, you need to sit really close to the TV for 4K resolution on consoles to make sense. I've even heard of people wanting 8K for sofa gaming, as if they have superhuman vision haha.

2K (1440p) is for me the best and still overkill for TVs, while 4K is excellent for monitors.

I sit like 1.9m+ from the TV (65") and yes I can tell when something is in 4k :)

So chart checks out.
However on PC, I still don't game at 4k...... because of hardware not being up to par, and diminishing returns.
I would much rather make sure the game is running better fps, at a lower resolution, than chugging along at 4k.

Upscaleing really turned things on their head.
Native 4k is not worth it... unless you have a monster pc.

Famiboards believes the leaked Switch 2 motherboard pics are real, which seem to indicate an 8 nm SoC or something close to it.

Makes me wonder what Samsung promised Nintendo (probably the same sweet talk that swayed Nvidia, Apple, etc. in the past, much to their detriment) which might explain the very unusual dock fan and higher PSU.

If I were to take a wild, wild guess, some internal target that Samsung promised wasn't being reached when all was said and done, so Nintendo delayed the console and did what they could to at least salvage the docked mode's performance.

Switch 2 wont be anywhere near as good as the steam deck 2 hardware wise.
This site has some ego trip going on as regards the steam deck, its a fantastic piece of hardware

Its probably just because Nvidia did that design on 8nm with samsung.
Nintendo wont spend money to shrink it down.... and pay more for a newer node, even if it could mean a stronger Switch 2 or better battery life.

There are also rumors of a 25 watt-hour battery.
So it looks like they are sticking to the same power consumption that original Switch has.

People are saying this will be more powerfull than a Steam Deck  and maybe roughly where a PS4 base model is in terms of performance.
So its up to DLSS to carry the load.  Granted this is still a big upgrade from the original Switch, so fans should be really happy about that.

However in terms of performance, your still looking at a generation of Nintendo console, that's basically in terms of capability, a gen behind the others.
(PS5/XSX)

I enjoy my Switch so.... honestly it doesn't matter (hardware power).
It is and always will be, the games and exclusives the system has (and the people making the games that fit that system).

Yep. Nintendo isn't going to change their 25-year-old design philosophy just because some people want to have a $400 ROG Ally that also plays Mario.

Just to mention it, I've seen some cope thinking it could be Samsung 5 nm since it's smaller than an Orin but really, the Switch 2 SoC was never going to be the full size of an automotive chip with all its extra hardware that won't be needed for gaming. Occam's razor and all.

With these specs, I don't expect things to change in regards to third-party support either but for the past 25 years, Nintendo consoles have always been for first-party games or adjacent stuff like Pokémon anyway.

A big part of the reasoning to stay with 8nm is due to costs... 8nm is less congested than other leading nodes which results in lower prices at a equivalent die-size.
However keep in mind that Samsung 8nm process is just a refined 10nm node, but automotive grade... Which means it has tolerances for -40°C to +105°C operating temperature ranges.

But you are right, the Tegra Orin design was ratified and designed for Samsung's 8nm process, it would cost a hefty sum amount of money and time to port it to something smaller... That will likely come with a platform refresh in a few years time.

Comparing it to the original Steam Deck, it should outperform it. - nVidia's GPU technology is vastly superior to AMD's currently.
Where AMD would likely have the advantage is on the CPU side of the equation.

As for Steamdeck 2... Nothing has been announced, no hardware has been demonstrated, we know nothing about it... It might not come to market for years yet... And obviously something newer should be faster than something older.
