Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nikoderiko, a Crash/DKC inspired platformer, out now

The game is out now:

I took it for a spin last night and played most of the first world.

On the whole, my impressions were very positive. It's vibrant and beautiful, the controls/physics feel good, the music is fabulous as per usual from David Wise, levels are well constructed, and while it wears its influences on its sleeve, its definitely more love letter than plagiarism.

My only issues are that the Switch version is in a bit of a rough state at the moment, with very long load times and some hitching. The good news is, I contacted the devs and they say a patch to fix this is already at Nintendo for approval; they were hoping it would be ready for launch, but Nintendo apparently take longer with this stuff than Sony/MS.

So while I would heartily recommend it to any fan of classic platformers, I'd say if you plan to buy it for Switch, hold back until the patch goes live.

The character designs are my favorite part, they're very reminiscent of 90s Rare characters. ^^

The promised update has arrived on Switch; I tested out a level I'd already played to gauge the difference and it does seem to run more consistently now.

If mobility doesn't matter to you and you have a PS5/Xbox Series then obviously it will look and perform better there, but if Switch is your preferred platform then I'd say it's well worth picking up now.

The game itself is great fun, one of my favourites of 2024 so far.

Looks fun. Bit of a weird name though, doesn't roll of the tong. Can't even decipher it easily from the logo. Probably just a me problem though.

Terrible naming.

There are far worse names for games, like Tube Slider or Tongue of The Fat Man.

Hahahaha. I actually looked them up to see what these games are about.

This.... its hard to "remember" and pronounce, as well.

You want a easy to say name, that kids can remember and pronounce with ease.
"mom I want the new "mario" game".

"mom I want the new... what was it called? Niko...riko? mom its a platformer with a ??? on the cover"

These things matter, if your doing a physical release imo.
I wonder if devs/studios ever think such thoughts before nameing characters and games.

I was curious after reading your post.

Tube Slider is apparently a gamecube Wipeout clone.
Tongue of the Fat man, is a activision game on dos (the OS), and is a fighter? it looks like.

Honestly those names, arnt that bad.... atleast their memorable, and easily pronounced.

Got this on my wishlist, I'll get it in the future, likely through a bundle.

Togue of the fat man sounds intriguing, that's an example of a good name and tube sliders not so bad, at least one knows what you're in for.
