Wii U proved that their base won't buy everything Nintendo does.

You are right, I forgot about that one. I thought it was alright myself.

It had potential, but almost no one bothered to try, including most Nintendo teams.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

New rumour suggests it will come with 2 SKU's starting at $400 (take with a grain of salt)

449 USD

399.99 and then in 2027/28 we get Switch 2 Lite for 299.99.

2 SKU's I believe are two different color variations

Lol, no people, Nintendo is not going for a Two SKU strategy between an all-digital Switch and one with the cartridge slot included.

Anywoo, I genuinely think their objective is to achieve the 400$ mark.
People have gotten their predictions warped because of Sony's showcase yesterday, but there's no way Nintendo will dramatically go from a 300$ hybrid console to a 500$ in the space of a generation.

This would be too prohibitive from most casual consummers that are important to the overall Switch userbase.

This.  People are forgetting about Nintendo's wide appeal.  I have a Switch and each of my kids have one, for a total of 3.  That isn't happening at Steam Deck prices and Nintendo knows it.

Pretty much. Not only, they are obviously gonna be price mindful, to keep their current stronghold over Japan atm. They ain't gonna relinquish such a position by jeopardizing themselves with a prohibitive pricepoint.

However, I'm not against the existence of a future 449-499$ Pro/OLED SKU.

Yeah, I really need to hear about their rumor sources to begin with but yes, I expect that we would go to the ol' Grey JoyCons - Blue/Red JoyCons SKU's at launch. Especially if both SKUs are the same price.

Edit : So the source seems to be about a random discord user on a GTA server that predicted PS5 Pro reveal date and the pricepoint ...

I mean it's not an impossible thing to do but no, this isn't really proof worthy enough when everyone has been going on the prediction thing those last few weeks.

Hopefully Nintendo doesn't do the ridiculous and make it prohibitively expensive. I also hope that the launch games will also work with the original Switch and just require a "Switch 2 Update" if you want the higher res features of the new system, like we see nowadays with PS4-PS5 titles.

I think 400$ sounds about perfect for Switch 2. Some people are concerned that Nintendo may overprice Switch 2 since they may get cocky like Sony. But Nintendo never had a history of overpricing consoles, I don't think they'll fuck this up.
