Pretty sure it will be around 7k BRL (~1235k USD)

From a business POV they'd be stupid to continue to subsidize consoles at cost (virtually no profit to them) or even a loss (even worse) when they have no real direct competition. 2005 was a long time ago. The whole "everything has to be dirt cheap in gaming" logic really is rooted in the 1980s when the market was largely children reliant on parents buying them a console for a birthday or Christmas gift. The industry is so far beyond that now, a complete break from that model was overdue. Even Nintendo I think is more and more going to embrace premium pricing. The only reason Sony even adhered to that level of pricing for so long was because Microsoft is such a huge company they felt obligated to price competitively. Now that MS is showing signs of effectively going 3rd party, there's no pressure on Playstation to have to do that. |
Stop drinking. This is just shitty old-fashioned greed. Nothing more.

FF7 Rebirth is getting an upgrade, Alan Wake 2, DD2. |
I totally forgot about FF7 Rebirth! I will definitely play that soon. Just need to finish my backlog.
Not $700 without disc drive, that'll be like 16000+ in my country's currency.
I'm afraid I'll just get the Slim when a buy a PS5.

$960 + $100 for the optical drive + tax. $1000 for a console of any kind is madness (in Canada). |
So is CAD 102 for a new game (after tax), or CAD 107 for a controller.
Now looking at a new gaming laptop, 32GB RAM, 1Tb SSD, 4070, CAD 2,700 (before tax)
Houses in my street are selling for CAD 1 million, and I live in a small town, an hour from Toronto. Crazy shit.
The PS4 launched here at CAD 400, but that was when the CAD was on par or even above USD for a while. (currently at 73 cents to the USD)
Game prices have gone from CAD 60 to CAD 90, console prices from CAD 400 to CAD 650.
My grocery bill has increased by a factor 1.5 as well (if not more)
But I did buy a ps4 pro for CAD 400 when it came out (CAD was above USD at the time, new games were briefly CAD 55)
Worst is ice cream. From CAD 0.40 for a soft serve cone in my youth (converted) to CAD 4.00 today.
Anyway it's gonna hurt to buy a PS5 Pro. But it will also be many hours of fun.
Yeah CAD 1,200 after tax ugh (with disc drive). Madness indeed.
It's telling that several games they used to show off the PS5 Pro are PS4 games, both in terms of diminishing graphical returns and the dearth of current gen showcases even 4 years into the generation.
I mean, this is just a taste of the Xboxless future some of you have been yearning for.
And buckle up, things will just get more spicy from here on.
Consoles are not going to lose money anymore in the future.
I expect the Switch 2 LCD to release at $449 with the OLED option for $549.

you honestly think the Switch will be priced to compete with the likes of handheld PCs like the Steam Deck??? Sounds like wishful thinking. Nintendo has sold the Switch at a profit since day one.

What price do you expect then?
If you tell me $349, that's a pipe dream and means that anybody would expect a very modest improvement compared to the current switch then.
