I would feel embarrased, if someone seen me play a kid focused game...

Out of all the fields of study in the world, you chose the most depressing PhD degree. I salute you for your determination but at the same time feel sorry for you.

Math is the language of the universe. It's the most practical thing a person can master if they want to want to go into engineering and science. Einstein dreamed in math, and it gave us the Theory of Relativity. Math isn't inherently depressing. It's just depressing to those who don't enjoy it.

Is it possible to ask for threads to be removed on here? My words did not convey what I meant to say and no matter how I try to edit this thread I can't convey my intent.

Never embarrassed.
I am a motorcycle riding, fireman. My fragile masculinity need not worry.

In saying that, I play "childish" games like Minecraft to escape reality or from a bad day/job... Back in the 90's it was common for video games to be frowned upon, heck computers and technology was frowned upon in general... Today it's absolutely acceptable.

If you enjoy a game, then that game is working as intended and providing entertainment. So enjoy it.

If other gamers see that I have an achievement/trophy to said "childish" game, then they obviously had the free time to check, if they don't agree with it, then that is their problem to be fair.

Well said.

Hell no.

I'm a 35 year old man and some of my favourite games are kid-friendly games like Mario or Kirby. Life's too short to let other people's opinions dictate what I play.

To quote CS Lewis: “Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

Not at all! But some games do rub me the wrong way with their stylistic changes. This is more a question about relative game experiences - which I’ll get into.

But I find some of those “cutified” game entries in franchises that are traditionally a different art style, particularly FF games (certain Crystal Chronicles games, FF9), certain Xeno-games (Mainly Xenoblade Chronicles 2 character art), and Zelda games (Celda) to be a turn-off. Graphically alone, I find Breath of the Wild vastly more appealing than Link’s Awakening on Switch - one style seems right for the franchise, the other seems wrong. I understand games like Link to the Past had kind of a cutesy look to them, but relative to the other games of the time, Link to the Past wasn’t a cutesy title, and didn’t seem to be going for that style - not going for the Yoshi/Kirby/cutsey look (in other words).
At the same time, going the other way (making games more “mature” in art style) is also against my tastes: Xenosaga Episode 2, that Bomberman game. These games look wrong to me as well.

If it’s not clear, I have no problems with a series that began cutsey (Animal Crossing, Kirby, etc…). Some of those games are among my most played of all time.

But, it’s all relative. If you got into Zelda later on, you might not be rubbed the wrong way by the cutsified art style of Celda and its derivatives. And some people don’t develop art style preferences and it’s mostly just cosmetics to them.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Cheers for sharing folks. I am going to continue playing Ni no kuni 2, let my insecurities ly and not give an F what others think, it's a great game so far and I'm glad I'm not going to miss it because of it's childish appearances.

No. But by who are you embarassed? People you know, or strangers?
Strangers don't know you, and will probably never think of you again after passing by.
While people who know you should be able to accept you for who you are.

For me it's not only that I don't mind anyone having the opinion that what I do is childish. I have way more important things to consider in life than that.
But it's also that I feel bad for anyone that thinks that way. It means they are probably limiting their own enjoyment by believing in this concept that something is "too childish". If you enjoy it, you enjoy it. What's the problem?

Most of the people I know who would make fun of someone for playing "childish" video games are the same ones who would call any video game player over the age of 18 a stunted man-child.

Both. My sister was around while I playing Minecraft not long ago and I was terribly embarrassed. She doesn't know enough about gaming to know that Minecraft is not just for kids...it's for us autistic people too. Lol. I joke. She doesn't know games can be for all ages.  But having people pass by the TV room while I'm playing as a child with animal ears in Ni no Kuni 2 and they are going on about the Kingdom of "Ding dong dell" and "higgledies" with a narrator out of a kids film is, as someone said above hurting the fragility of my manhood. I know it shouldn't but I find myself backing out to the ps4 home screen. I hope to overcome the uncomfortableness as I'm running low on content without a ps5 and some of these kid friendly games look great at there core gameplay plus they're cozy AF and I'm half sick of depressing worlds these days.
