Cute art style or animated looking and just saying that's a kids-only game is such a narrow-minded view.
I would feel embarrased, if someone seen me play a kid focused game... | |||

Kirby's Epic Yarn was the only game I wouldn't say embarrassed but kind of just went through the motions on it since you couldn't really die on it. It was a beautiful game, but laughably easy.

As somebody who performs French Horn and Piano (lots of Beethoven listening) and is actively pursuing a PhD in mathematics...this feels very personal lol. I don't read Shakespeare, though, so I guess I'm good there.

Out of all the fields of study in the world, you chose the most depressing PhD degree. I salute you for your determination but at the same time feel sorry for you.

Ok. Confident people don’t worry about what others feel about what games they enjoy. I’ve watched my entire life as “hardcore” gamers have mocked the gaming habits of people who play Nintendo games and it’s always just been hilarious to me. I just didn’t realize there were people that actually felt embarrassed about playing certain games and took their attacks to heart. Welcome to a world of nit caring what other people think about your tastes in anything. It is quite liberating and you can now start living your best life for you. |
I don't see most of Nintendos roster in this category though, Nintendo are family friendly games for sure but they are equally as hardcore worthy as more mature games like souls. Souls is based off of the first Zelda like. I'm specifically referring to the hard edge of that where it becomes child focused or seems childish on the surface. Like with Ni no Kuni 2 it's hard to analysis cause the systems are obviously very deep and the game is very obviously made for competent RPG gamers but at a surface level everything says Saturday morning cartoon.
I recently made a thread asking for cosy games, many of the titles look fantastic but in my mind I'm wondering am I aged out of that one, should I be playing this one. Hmm, idk. Lol. But you're right, I play Minecraft from time to time for the zen experience and don't even think twice about what people think and sure if I can play that without shame why be bothered about "Ding dong dell" or "higgledies".

Perhaps it's the narrators voice and inflections on that specific game and tbh, I don't know enough about it to have used it as an example in the main thread and as for Astro Bot, I'm playing that game like I did with Rescue mission and aim not gonna GAF but you're misunderstanding the issue, I mean to say how you consider what others think of you playing the game regardless if YOU know the game is not childish.
Edit: For example, I don't consider Cat Quest to be childish but Ni no Kuni 2, a much deeper, complex game is giving me childish vibes. Cat Quest is way more cutesy. Ni no Kuni 2 starts with a nuclear explosion.
Last edited by LegitHyperbole - on 29 July 2024Even back during the Gamecube era, where just owning that console brought with it the mockery of being "kiddy"... I didn't let it dictate my choices. It was annoying, yes. But I just chalked it up to people being people and enjoyed the games.
So no, I'm not embarrassed.

You know games were just seen entirely as a kid's thing in the early 90s, right? Games were aimed at kids. Yet in Fire Pro Wrestling the main character commits suicide. Ending of Assaults Suit Valken. President kills himself. Mortal Kombat fatalities. Castlevania in general. Sweet Home on Famicom where this happens to an important character.
Then the Shin Megami Tensei games with all the demons and pentacles. How about Hagane where a couple bosses look straight out of Bayonetta tho 15 years before Bayonetta.
So by saying that Zelda game is a kids-only game, I can say just by aesthetics these were Adults only even tho they were made for kids. Yeah sure modern games are more broad but unless it's Disney Princess Dress Up or whatever or Paw Patrol clearly aimed at young kids with extremely simple mechanics. Where Zelda is more imvolved in gameplay.

Yeah, I did. Some people still see it as something for kids overall and something you should grow out of at some point. A lot less so thankfully in the past decade. I'd say we past the threshold around 2013.

Math is the language of the universe. It's the most practical thing a person can master if they want to want to go into engineering and science. Einstein dreamed in math, and it gave us the Theory of Relativity. Math isn't inherently depressing. It's just depressing to those who don't enjoy it.
