Which was the best Mario Party game on the N64 (basically the N64 trilogy)?

I’ve only played 1 and 2, but I prefer 2. The introduction of Battle, Item and Duel mini-games added to an already great foundation set by the first one, though I do prefer the boards on 1, especially the end board after getting 100 stars (Eternal Superstar). I still have “fond” memories of getting blisters playing the Tug of War mini-game.

They're all bad but I do have nostalgia getting high playing MP1 all night with my friend at the time.

That's a really tough question. I really like Mario Party 2 and 3. They are almost tied in my opinion. I'll vote for Mario Party 2 mainly because of the boards, that are overall better than MP3's, but MP3 has a lot of things going for too, like Daisy and Waluigi, the single-player modes and being able to carry 3 itens instead of just 1...

I've never played the original Mario Party

I never played the first one until it was on the Expansion Pack, and I feel it doesn't hold up well. 2 recycles most of the minigames anyway, the harsh nature of the luck factor is too much in 1 (2 and most later games balance this better). 10 is the only main series Mario Party and perhaps the only Mario Party I find worse than the original.
I rented 2 for the N64 as a kid and I played it on Wii VC. 2 is one of my favorite Mario Parties.
I haven't played all the boards yet or every last minigame in 3 yet but I've played most boards and such and it's the best on N64. I only played one round of it as a kid on N64 but have played hours of it on the Expansion Pack.
As for the series overall, 6 is my favorite. 5 was for a while (I like the side modes) but Party Mode and minigames in general are better in 6. Superstars is one of the best in the series as well.

Reminds me that I still need to buy the carts for my N64, but number 3 was my favorite and was probably the technically better game of all 3.

I would love to hear from the people who voted for the original Mario Party. How is it anyone thinks it is better than MP2 or MP3?
