I also got a PSP a few days ago along with GTA:VC Stories, Killzone Liberation, MGS: Portable Ops and God of War, those are all good choices.

Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow for shooters.
God of War, Daxter, and Ratchet for a little action/platforming.
Crisis Core, Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, Jeanne d'arc, and Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology for RPGs. (I could list more)
Also, if you like Castlevania, get Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles. It has the orginial Rondo of Blood, the remake of Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night.
Crisis Core is so fun it isn't even funny. I have been completely sucked into the game. It you like action games, it is much better suited to your tastes than most other RPG's you will find.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson
It's really good to hear all this positive feedback about the game. I am hoping my dad will have an opportunity to get the game while he is in America, instead of waiting another 3 months
Crisis Core, ratchet and clank, MGS: PO, SW Renegade Squadron, and then put custom firmware to play PS1 games on it.

Well as far as an RPG another one to consider is Jeanne D' Arc.
You had in your list of favored DS games Mario Kart so you might want to look into Wipeout Pure, good and you can get a used copy really cheap.
