I was expecting this thread to be brought up again since Charlie Kurk's death and the following jokes and memes

ABC cancelled Kimmel for an opinion. As a note, this wasn’t even for a joke, it was for comedic commentary on current events. Not legal consequences, but corporate consequences that evidence points to being spearheaded by Donald Trump - he said Kimmel would be next after Colbert.

Indeed, that was not even a joke. As you said, it was a comedic commentary. But the Big Boss didn't like what he heard and actively worked to get Kimmel's show canceled

Fox news hosts in the same week says we should euthanize homeless people, and we don't hear a peep from Trump.

I am always leaning towards freedom of speech and popular opinion thankfully agrees with me because Disney has had a large number of subscriptions cancelled.  It's amazing that a liberal company like disney would fire someone for criticizing the worst president that we've ever had.

Trump is also looking bad because he's called for licenses to be revoked of shows that mock or even criticize him.  As the dementia takes over he's losing his filter and looking 20x more evil but the funny thing was that he was like this all along, just able to control it better.  It's like getting drunk, you only act inappropriately in ways that you want to when you're drunk but you have less self control in such a case.

This is why I think the idea of "liberal companies" is kind of nonsense in the vast majority of situations. When faced with a decision between leftist goals and money, they repeatedly choose money, contradicting their supposed politics. If you are a shareholder you will see this every time voting comes around. There's typically a couple questions about producing a report about the impact of the business on the environment or certain social questions. I have never seen the board support these measures.

These are capitalist companies which wear liberalism and/or progressivism as a thin facade. Seemingly the only ones they are fooling are the right.

fair enough i suppose

My opinion remains the same; comedians shouldn't have to tiptoes around oversensitive snowflakes, regardless of whether said snowflakes are woke activists or MAGA/Trump.

Quite nice that people are coming around to that. I think that this thread has been useful for everyone to grow from, and as for myself I definitely appreciated seeing the other side's view even if I didn't buy into it too much
