Forums - Sales Discussion - FF7 Rebirth has reportedly sold half what Remake did in the same timeframe

Here's another statistical fact, Playstation + XBox sales have declined since GTAV released, not gone up. GTAV came out at the very tail end of the PS3-360, PS2 era was pre-GTAIV/V.

PS2 + XBox + GameCube = 195 million units

PS3 + XBox 360 = 170 million units

PS4 + XB1 = 175 million units

There's not really anything above that suggest GTAV onwards we've seen any kind of massive console sales growth. The largest "traditional" console generation was the PS2 era, 20+ years ago and no XBox or Playstation console has even topped 125 million since then, let alone 150 million.

These are really useless comparisons. GTA franchise hasn't had a sequel for 12 years, gtav sold over 200 million it will be the biggest game ever when released. Its gonna sell consoles.

GTAV should have grown console adoption during its 12 year reign, it did not. The PS2 + XBox sold better combined than the following two generations that did have GTAV. I even took out the GameCube to show this more clearly.

Them's the facts. That section of the market is not growing, hasn't been for decades. GTA IV and V did not cause overall console adoption growth for Playstation and XBox combined.

Except the PC market is growing Iike crazy.  In 2023 Steam added 23,000,000 new users.

Steam+xbox+ps4 = biggest market this section has seen yet.

Them's the facts.

Doesn't matter to Nintendo, matters more to Sony and MS, MS who has destroyed their XBox division effectively, Sony who is now in an conundrum of damaging the Playstation brand and sales the more they move towards PC.

All of that, if you're Nintendo you're just sitting back and watching having a laugh. PC gaming market has existed alongside Nintendo platforms well before Sony and MS even cut their diapers in this business, Nintendo doesn't have a problem with PC, it's just not a party they're going to join.

PC as a gaming entity has never really done anything antagonistic towards Nintendo like steal Final Fantasy or money hat third parties or try to bait Nintendo into selling hardware for $100+ losses. That's always been Sony/MS, so if they're being swallowed up by PC, that's more of a "good riddance" feeling at Nintendo I would imagine.

Didn't say it mattered to Nintendo.

I'm saying you are wrong in claiming the market hasn't grown.  It has grown significantly.  You simply forgot about PC.

So yeah, ya be wrong.  Dems is the facts.

lol do you do the same thing for Nintendo? when you combine and handhelds and home consoles Nintendo market is shrinking. obviously we are in a different market now and pc will only get much bigger.

No I said the home console market between Playstation and XBox has not grown. Which is correct. I said GTAV has not grown the PS-XBox market ... which is also correct.

The market is growing.  In short:

You don't get to cherry pick data to be "right."  PC+xbox+Playstation = largest market to date

Them's the facts.

Good that PC grows, let Sony eat their own tail just like Microsoft has done putting games on PC. XBox hardware as we've known it is going down the toilet and selling worse and worse by the quarter, if Sony wants to follow that same path, I would think Nintendo is smiling in watching them.

The more they try to support the PC, the more it will damage the Playstation, there is no way around it, but their new president is a money/margin hungry business suit. I'm sure Nintendo would be just fine if that's the direction he takes the company towards.

All these business suits at all of these other companies is a good thing for Nintendo. They're driving all these companies into a direction that directly or indirectly benefits Nintendo. They're completely destroying the model of Playstation exclusives overall, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party, they're devaluing all of it. If Sony doesn't believe in console exclusives, no 3rd party plausibly can either. That's great for Nintendo, everyone else becoming a port whore is terrific.

GTAV has grown the market as whole you are just ignoring PC , doesn't really matter GTA franchise is whole different beast now, when trailer views 4-5x every gaming trailer views in the past 5 years years we know the interest is nothing like we seen before.
