Israeli forces kill Palestinian child in Tulkarem

The Wafa news agency is reporting that the Palestinian child was killed after being shot in the head by an Israeli sniper in the Tulkarem refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. The agency identified the victim as Mohamed Kanaan. It said the Israeli sniper also shot Kanaan’s father in his waist.

The incident comes as Israeli forces raided Tulkarem for a second time this week. The soldiers are also laying siege to the Jenin refugee camp for a seventh day. At least 30 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s large-scale incursion into the occupied West Bank began last week.

Clashes, arrests as Israeli forces raid Hebron

The Wafa news agency is reporting that Israeli forces fired live rounds, rubber bullets and tear gas during a raid on the Hebron governorate, in the southern occupied West Bank, causing dozens of people to suffocate.

The raids took place in the town of Sa’ir and the Fawwar refugee camp, the agency reported. It said the Israeli forces also arrested two young men from Fawwar and beat them severely. The soldiers also seized agricultural fertiliser from Sa’ir.

Earlier in the night, Israeli forces arrested three more people in Sa’ir, Wafa reported.

Palestinians wounded in Israeli attack in Tulkarem

An Israeli drone attack in the Tulkarem refugee camp in the occupied West Bank has wounded many Palestinians, Wafa news agency is reporting. A volunteer medical worker was injured in the incident, it reported, quoting local sources.

Earlier, it reported that a Palestinian child was killed after being shot in the head by an Israeli sniper in the camp.

Palestinian fighters in Jenin clash with Israeli troops

The Jenin Battalion of al-Quds Brigades, a Palestinian armed group, said its fighters are confronting Israeli forces in the Jenin governorate of the occupied West Bank, including with guns and improvised explosive devices.

The battalion, in posts on Telegram, said it achieved “direct hits” on the Israeli troops.

Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

A group of Israeli settlers has entered the courtyard of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound escorted by Israeli forces, the Palestinian Wafa news agency is reporting. The report, quoting witnesses, said the settlers conducted “provocative tours” within the grounds.

Meanwhile, Israeli security forces ramped up security in the Old City, including around the entrances to the compound. Extreme right-wing Israelis have stepped up their actions at the holy site in recent months, threatening a tenuous status quo.

In July, Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir entered the mosque, in a move that was widely condemned by the international community.

Israeli forces storm Tulkarem, impose curfew on camp

The Israeli army has raided the occupied West Bank city that was earlier targeted by drone attacks, according to Palestinian media outlets. Footage shared online, and verified by Al Jazeera, shows Israeli military vehicles and bulldozers driving on the streets.

According to the Palestinian Wafa news agency, Israeli forces imposed a curfew on the Tulkarem refugee camp, preventing residents from leaving or entering.

People in Tulkarem scared amid ongoing Israeli raids

Palestinians say Israeli forces have raided the area over and over again and are still there. The roads are empty and people are scared.

This morning, a 14-year-old in Tulkarem was going to the mosque with his father for prayers when he was shot dead by Israeli forces. He was shot in the neck. His father was hit in the abdomen.

This is telling Palestinians that snipers are sometimes shooting to kill.

Nearly two dozen arrested in occupied West Bank

According to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club, Israeli forces have arrested 22 people, including former prisoners, across the occupied West Bank since last evening.

Israeli raid in Tulkarem causes more infrastructure damage

Officials here in Tulkarem say that after Israeli forces withdrew from this area temporarily, they started fixing some of the roads and attempted to return electricity, water and other facilities to the Nur Shams and Tulkarem refugee camps.

Now that Israeli forces have come back again, there has been more destruction to the infrastructure. One of the roads and main entrance to the Tulkarem refugee camp has been completely dug up by Israeli soldiers.

The Israeli forces usually say they are after the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) … which are sometimes planted by the Palestinian fighting groups to thwart the raids of the Israeli army.

However, people here say that this is intentional. This is done to remind Palestinians who controls their lives and who has the ultimate say if they choose to resist the Israeli occupation.

Teenage girl shot dead by Israeli forces in occupied West Bank: Report

Lujain Osama Musleh, 16, was killed in the town of Kafr Dan in Jenin amid ongoing Israeli military operations, Wafa news agency is reporting.

According to Palestine Red Crescent Society, its crew were stopped from reaching the area of the shooting for some 30 minutes, Wafa added. A second person was also injured in the incident, it said.

Israeli forces destroy home in Jenin

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic say Israeli bulldozers have razed a house in Kafr Dan after besieging it amid gunfire in the vicinity.

Israel’s military assault in Jenin that started last week, one of the largest in months, has caused extensive damage to houses and infrastructure in the densely packed refugee camp adjacent to the city.

Israeli forces demolish water well in village near Hebron

Israeli forces demolished a water well in Khirbet Khallet al-Tayaran, east of the town of Dhahiriya in the occupied West Bank, Wafa news agency reported. Local sources told Wafa that resident Mohammad Musa Othman Abu Sharkh owned the well, adding that Israeli forces and settlers constantly targeted the village.

Other violations to the village include the demolition of tents and homes, assaulting the residents and preventing them from working on their agricultural lands.

Israel kills 184 in 5 days as women, children continue to be targeted in attacks

A further 184 Palestinians were reported killed by Israeli forces in attacks on Gaza during the five days between Thursday and Monday, while 369 people were injured, the UN reports, with many of the victims being women and children.

The UN’s humanitarian affairs office (OCHA) reports that among the deadliest incidents was the killing of three children and two women – one of whom was pregnant – in an attack on the upper floor of a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp that killed nine.

Seven Palestinians from the same family were also killed when a house was targeted by Israeli forces in the Sabra neighbourhood in Gaza city, according to the OCHA report.

The heaviest fighting in the Strip continues in the south around Khan Younis and Rafah and in the central area near Deir el-Balah. In the north of the territory, Beit Hanoon is the focus of an Israeli ground operation, the UN said.

Polio vaccination campaign continuing amid fighting across Gaza

The turnout today has been high as parents continue to bring their children for vaccinations at hospitals and centres in central Gaza. Many families lined up early in the morning to provide their children with additional protection through two oral drops of the polio vaccine.

Medical teams have been going around tents to find children who need to be vaccinated.

Meanwhile, areas excluded from the so-called humanitarian pause policy are suffering constant bombardment. Consequently, people in these areas are struggling to bring their children to vaccination centres.

Children in southern Gaza will get their doses starting on Thursday and those in northern Gaza from next Monday onwards. And as we’ve been reporting, so far, some 158,992 children in central Gaza have received their doses. Health workers are aiming to reach some 640,000 children across the war-torn enclave over the next week.

One killed, four bodies recovered after Israeli attacks in Gaza

Israeli artillery shelling has killed one person and wounded many in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, south of Gaza City, Gaza Civil Defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal said.

Elsewhere, the bodies of four women from the al-Arja family were recovered after an Israeli attack on the al-Tannour neighbourhood, east of Rafah city, Basal added.

Civilians killed in Israeli attack on Jabalia bread queue

The Israeli army deliberately targeted a group of civilians at the entrance of Al Fakhoura UNRWA school in the Jabalia refugee camp.

I am standing at the site that has been hit by Israeli forces. This is a bread stand and people and civilians were hit while buying bread from this mini stall. It is located at the entrance to the UNRWA school, which used to shelter thousands of Palestinians. This is a very crowded street as this is an evacuation centre and thousands of people are using this place as a shelter.

Gaza’s death toll rises

At least 40,819 people have been killed and 94,291 wounded in Israeli military attacks on Gaza since October 7, the enclave’s Health Ministry says. Of those, 33 Palestinians were killed and 67 wounded in the past 24 hours, the ministry added.

Israeli forces attack near hospital

Israeli forces have reportedly attacked near a hospital in Deir el-Balah, central Gaza Strip, shortly after the polio vaccination campaign ended.

Attack near hospital comes as vaccinations end

The targeted side of the residential home is only less than a mile [1.6km] away from the southern gate of the Al-Aqsa Hospital. We can see the cloud of dark smoke rising in the sky.

It’s not a coincidence that this is the exact same timing as yesterday’s attack. And there is fear and concern right now that as soon as the vaccination schedule ends for the day, the Israeli military resumes right away.

As we understand it, 3pm [12:00 GMT] is the end of … the pauses in the fighting, and what we’re seeing from yesterday and today is that as soon as it ends, the Israeli military resumes right away.

The attacks started with this air attack on this residential building that’s only less than a mile away from the southern gate of the hospital. At least six critically injured people have arrived at the hospital here.

Polio vaccine programme going ‘quite well’, WHO says

Hamid Jafari, the WHO’s director of polio eradication for the Eastern Mediterranean region, says the vaccination programme in Gaza is “going quite well”.

“We have already vaccinated more children than we had estimated were in this middle zone of Gaza. This is the first phase of the campaign. By this evening, we will make an assessment whether there are still children who need to be vaccinated … because we are now finding more children in this area than we had estimated,” Jafari told Al Jazeera.

“So we will likely need tomorrow as well to continue vaccination,” he said.

He added that on Thursday a polio vaccination campaign will start in the southern Gaza Strip, which is where “the bulk of the children are – 300,040 estimated children are in the south”.

“Once that is completed, again about four days, after that, the north will start, which again has an estimated population of target children under 10 years of age of 150,000,” Jafari said.

Pauses in fighting a ‘rare ray of hope’, says UN chief

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has described the pauses in fighting in central Gaza as health workers deliver polio vaccines as a “rare ray of hope and humanity in the cascade of horror”.

“If the parties can act to protect children from a deadly virus … surely they can and must act to protect children and all innocents from the horrors of war,” his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said.

The high risk of it spreading beyond Gaza is likely the only reason Israel is allowing the vaccination campaign.

Israel isn't pausing bombing children at all...

Five wounded children brought to Al-Aqsa Hospital after Israeli air strike

Initial injuries arrived at the hospital, and a civilian vehicle arrived with two children in bad condition. We could see them soaked in blood and dust, and really terrible scenes to look at here at the hospital.

Within a span of a few minutes, the ambulance came back with more seriously injured individuals from the bombed house that were already covered in dust and blood, and one of them was in really bad shape.

We believe that one child is in the operating theatre right now as we were told by one of the doctors that there is a high possibility that they’ll lose one of their limbs as bones were shredded completely by the explosions.

Just to remind you, the kind of bombs used by the Israeli military in these attacks are quite lethal. They’re packed with nails, with shrapnel, with little pieces of metal that, when they explode, fly at high speed and cut through the flesh. They cause severe bleeding.

So far, five children have arrived at the hospital.

Israeli army confirms attack on Numaa College in Gaza City

The Israeli military says the air force has carried out a strike on Numaa College in Gaza City after accusing Hamas fighters of using the building as a “command and control centre”. The army said Numaa College was used to direct attacks on soldiers and Israel.

It added that steps to mitigate the risk of harming civilians were taken through the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance and additional intelligence.

Pauses in fighting only take place in central areas

The pauses in the fighting are limited to areas where a polio vaccination campaign is running and taking place in the central areas. In other parts of the Gaza Strip, there are still active warzones as the Israeli military continues with its air strikes.

So far, just in the past 24 hours, 26 people have reportedly been killed. That’s only the number that’s being collected and identified by health facilities and officials in the northern and southern parts of the Strip.

This includes the eastern part of the city of Khan Younis, where heavy artillery since the early hours of this morning has been reported, as well as the evacuation centres in al-Mawasi area in the western part of Khan Younis.

Israeli forces intensifying attacks in Gaza City, southern Gaza: Palestinian Civil Defence

Israeli forces have stepped up their targeting of residential homes and shelters in Gaza City since this morning, said the spokesperson of Gaza’s Civil Defence in a post on Telegram.

Among these targets were the Al-Nama College and a residential building in the city, the spokesperson said.

He added that Israeli artillery and drones also targeted the southern part of the Gaza Strip, with a number of calls for help coming from the area. He noted that Civil Defence teams had difficulty reaching the location.

Nine people killed in Israeli bombing in Gaza City: Civil Defence

Gaza’s Civil Defence is reporting nine people have been killed due to Israeli forces bombing a residential building near a municipal park in central Gaza City.

At least two children and a woman are among those killed.

Two people pulled from under rubble in Gaza City: Civil Defence

Gaza’s Civil Defence is reporting that two people were pulled out from under the rubble of the former “Safad” school in Gaza City. The people were identified as Rajab Mashthay and Khaled Bulbul.

The former school, which now houses displaced Palestinians, was bombed earlier this week by Israeli forces.

West Bank’s Jenin ‘ravaged by violence’, UNRWA’s Lazzarini says

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini says Jenin has been “ravaged by violence [and] destruction” for a seventh day due to the Israeli military’s operation in the Palestinian territory.

“Over more than 150 hours, people have been undergoing an Israeli military operation, armed clashes & the use of explosives by Palestinian armed groups. Residents have limited access to food, water & medicine,” Lazzarini wrote on X.

He added that UNRWA was working alongside humanitarian and local groups to help deliver aid to the occupied West Bank and called for the “immediate protection of civilians”.

Israeli forces kill two Palestinians near Tulkarem: Report

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, two men have been killed by Israeli forces in the Thanabeh area east of Tulkarem. The official Wafa news agency reported that soldiers raided the area, surrounded a house and shelled it, which led to the two men’s deaths.

The ministry identified them as Rami Abbas and Nour Zayet. Their bodies, it said, were taken and are being withheld by Israeli soldiers.

‘We narrowly escaped death’: Journalists reportedly targeted near Jenin

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate says Israeli forces are targeting journalists with live bullets in the town of Kafr Dan, west of Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, Wafa reports.

Wafa photographer Ayman Al-Nubani told the syndicate that Israeli forces “directly targeted” seven journalists with live fire, journalists who were riding in three press vehicles and wearing press protection vests.

“We narrowly escaped death,” Al-Nubani explained. “If we hadn’t sped up a bit in our car, they would have killed us. It was a direct assassination attempt.”

The photographer said he and his colleagues – Wafa photographer Mohammed Mansour, Raneen Sawafta with the Reuters news agency and freelance journalist Yazan Hamayel – were injured during the incident.

Al-Nubani added: “Ambulances arrived immediately, and we were transferred to Ibn Sina Governmental Hospital in Jenin, but [Israeli] forces intercepted us and obstructed the ambulances, … surrounding the hospital [and] subjecting us to an investigation while we were injured.”

Thirty-three killed in West Bank since Israeli incursion began: Health ministry

The number of Palestinians killed by Israel’s weeklong incursion into the occupied West Bank, ongoing since last Wednesday, has risen to 33, the health ministry says. It added that 130 people have also been injured in this time.

These latest figures raise the number of people killed in the occupied territory since Israel’s war on Gaza began last October to 685 and the number of injured there to 5,700.

Al-Quds Brigades’ Tulkarem Battalion claims detonating explosive device in clashes with Israeli forces

The Tulkarem Battalion of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s armed wing has claimed that its fighters were able to detonate an explosive device achieving “direct hits” as they fought with Israeli forces in the Tulkarem camp in the occupied West Bank.

“Our fight continues and our weapons are drawn in all arenas,” the group stated.

The Israeli army raided Tulkarem after earlier targeting it with drone attacks, today killing a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl in Jenin.

The group’s Jenin Batallion also says that it detonated a pre-planted explosive device against Israeli military vehicles in the city, achieving “direct hits”.

Israeli attack on Jenin leaves residents running low on food and water

Hundreds of Israeli soldiers backed by helicopters and drones have been operating in Jenin and Tulkarem as well as other areas of the West Bank for the past week. The operation has caused severe damage to infrastructure as armoured bulldozers have torn up large stretches of city streets and destroyed or severely damaged houses and other buildings.

As the operation has gone on, aid workers have begun to warn that people in the area are starting to run low on food and water. Paramedic officer Murad Khamayseh from Jenin, who works with the disaster unit in the Palestine Red Crescent Society, said his unit has been distributing bread, water, milk, medical supplies and nappies.

“You are talking about seven days in a row. People were not ready for such a raid, aside from the fact that no one knows how long the raid will be,” he said.

Palestine Football Association calls for FIFA to address Israeli violence at games

UN wants independent probe into deaths of Israeli captives

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has called for an independent investigation into the deaths of six Israeli captives whose bodies were found at the weekend by the Israeli army in Gaza.

“We are horrified by reports that Palestinian armed groups summarily executed six Israeli hostages, which would constitute a war crime,” Turk’s office said on X, adding that Turk “calls for independent, impartial and transparent investigation and for perpetrators to be held to account”.

Add that to the countless other requests for independent investigations... Still waiting on an independent investigation of Oct 7, all the hospital and school attacks, all the aid worker and journalist killings, Hind Rijab, all the mass graves, all the bombings of humanitarian encampments, and so on and so on.

Pro-Palestinian supporters march outside Columbia University

On the first day of the semester at Columbia University in New York City, pro-Palestinian students and activists have staged protests, as the Israeli war in Gaza rages on.

The spring 2024 semester saw a wave of protests against the war on Gaza across university campuses in the US and Europe that drew harsh, violent crackdowns from local authorities.

Mass demonstrations continue in Tel Aviv, as protesters clash with police

Video posted on social media by Israeli accounts, and verified by Al Jazeera’s fact-checking unit, show thousands on the streets of Tel Aviv demanding a deal to release captives held in Gaza by Hamas and other groups.

Some of the footage shows arrests being made and police assaulting demonstrators.

Protests erupted over the weekend after six more captives were found dead in the Gaza Strip.

Translation: Several thousand protesters on the Begin road. This is the fourth evening in a row that the road is full of protesters. This time the police did not block the area in advance and a few minutes ago the police arrested two protesters who came down to block the road. Later, the police threatened to evacuate the protestors and were already preparing to evacuate, but finally backed off and went back.

US will continue to engage with partners on Gaza ceasefire

The United States will continue to engage with its regional partners over the coming days to finalise a Gaza ceasefire and captive-prisoner exchange deal, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller says.

Progress was made on the remaining obstacles during talks last week, Miller told reporters, but said reaching a deal will require flexibility on both sides.

White House says captive deaths add urgency to Gaza ceasefire talks

“We’re working on a proposal that will secure the release of the remaining hostages and will include massive and immediate relief for the people of Gaza and also result in a stoppage of the fighting,” Kirby said.

He said he did not have a timeframe on when the proposal would be formally presented.

“We are still in constant consultations with Qatar, Egypt and Israel, and of course, Qatar and Egypt are in touch with Hamas, and we’re going to do what we can to get it done,” Kirby said.

US is not applying enough pressure on Netanyahu: Hamas

Hamas spokesman Osama Hamdan says there are no developments in the ceasefire talks and Washington is not applying enough pressure on the Israeli prime minister to accept a deal.

Hamdan reiterated the group’s stance that there is no need for a new proposal but rather more effort is needed to pressure Netanyahu to accept the agreement that Hamas had previously agreed upon.

He also said: “Our position on the Philadelphi Corridor is clear. We reject any status quo that allows for Israel’s presence there. The corridor is part of the withdrawal process from the Gaza Strip that was previously agreed upon.”

“If Washington does not pressure Netanyahu to withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor, then we consider this to be an attempt to save him and his political career from the repercussions of the captives’ killing.”

Hamdan also said the six captives whose bodies were retrieved at the weekend by Israeli forces were killed either “by Israeli shelling, Israeli shootings or during clashes”.

New Jersey ‘uncommitted movement’ calls for witholding votes from Kamala Harris

New Jersey’s uncommitted movement is calling on its members to withhold votes from US federal Democratic election candidates unless the Biden-Harris administration delivers a ceasefire in Gaza and imposes an arms embargo on Israel.

In a statement, the movement said it will withhold votes from Vice President Kamala Harris and all Congressional Democratic Party candidates on the ballot this November 5 unless there is an arms embargo and permanent ceasefire imposed on Israel.

“The Biden administration is a full partner in the genocide in Gaza. While Democratic Party leaders claim to be ‘working tirelessly’ for a ceasefire, they have provided over $20.8bn in weapons for Israel’s mass slaughter of Palestinians since October 7,” the movement said.
