Israel kills 184 in 5 days as women, children continue to be targeted in attacks

A further 184 Palestinians were reported killed by Israeli forces in attacks on Gaza during the five days between Thursday and Monday, while 369 people were injured, the UN reports, with many of the victims being women and children.

The UN’s humanitarian affairs office (OCHA) reports that among the deadliest incidents was the killing of three children and two women – one of whom was pregnant – in an attack on the upper floor of a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp that killed nine.

Seven Palestinians from the same family were also killed when a house was targeted by Israeli forces in the Sabra neighbourhood in Gaza city, according to the OCHA report.

The heaviest fighting in the Strip continues in the south around Khan Younis and Rafah and in the central area near Deir el-Balah. In the north of the territory, Beit Hanoon is the focus of an Israeli ground operation, the UN said.

Polio vaccination campaign continuing amid fighting across Gaza

The turnout today has been high as parents continue to bring their children for vaccinations at hospitals and centres in central Gaza. Many families lined up early in the morning to provide their children with additional protection through two oral drops of the polio vaccine.

Medical teams have been going around tents to find children who need to be vaccinated.

Meanwhile, areas excluded from the so-called humanitarian pause policy are suffering constant bombardment. Consequently, people in these areas are struggling to bring their children to vaccination centres.

Children in southern Gaza will get their doses starting on Thursday and those in northern Gaza from next Monday onwards. And as we’ve been reporting, so far, some 158,992 children in central Gaza have received their doses. Health workers are aiming to reach some 640,000 children across the war-torn enclave over the next week.

One killed, four bodies recovered after Israeli attacks in Gaza

Israeli artillery shelling has killed one person and wounded many in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, south of Gaza City, Gaza Civil Defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal said.

Elsewhere, the bodies of four women from the al-Arja family were recovered after an Israeli attack on the al-Tannour neighbourhood, east of Rafah city, Basal added.

Civilians killed in Israeli attack on Jabalia bread queue

The Israeli army deliberately targeted a group of civilians at the entrance of Al Fakhoura UNRWA school in the Jabalia refugee camp.

I am standing at the site that has been hit by Israeli forces. This is a bread stand and people and civilians were hit while buying bread from this mini stall. It is located at the entrance to the UNRWA school, which used to shelter thousands of Palestinians. This is a very crowded street as this is an evacuation centre and thousands of people are using this place as a shelter.

Gaza’s death toll rises

At least 40,819 people have been killed and 94,291 wounded in Israeli military attacks on Gaza since October 7, the enclave’s Health Ministry says. Of those, 33 Palestinians were killed and 67 wounded in the past 24 hours, the ministry added.

Israeli forces attack near hospital

Israeli forces have reportedly attacked near a hospital in Deir el-Balah, central Gaza Strip, shortly after the polio vaccination campaign ended.
