Concerns remain over Palestinian participation in implementing UN resolution

More from Daniel Forti, the analyst at the International Crisis Group. He told Al Jazeera that concerns about accountability, political oversight, and Palestinian participation in the proposed board of peace and the international stabilisation force were “absolutely valid”.

Still, “we do see this resolution as an opportunity for the entire international community to give a bit more oomph to the ceasefire deal at a moment when everything is quite precarious”, he said.

Diplomacy should not stop here, he said.

“There needs to be considerable attention paid now to how all of these institutions get stood up, even if the Security Council doesn’t have a formal role in this and the US and its Arab partners are using both multilateral fora and bilateral channels to work out some of the finer details of this,” he said.

“Without more political engagement, without a process that is credible to the Palestinians, implementation of any of these provisions is going to be incredibly challenging,” Forti added.

Better than returning to full scale genocide, about the lowest possible you can set the bar, yet that's where we are today.

Malaysia says resolution is ‘important step in the right direction’

Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement calling on the UN Security Council to ensure the resolution on Gaza is implemented swiftly and thoroughly.

The ministry said that doing so will help to “realise the rights of the Palestinians, including their right to Statehood, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to guarantee the right of return of Palestinian refugees”.

“Malaysia will continue to support all efforts that are grounded in international law and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations towards realising an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the Capital,” the statement added.

Israel vows to ensure Hamas is disarmed

We have a reaction from Israel’s envoy to the UN, Danny Danon, on the resolution adopted by the Security Council.

“Just as we are determined to bring all the hostages home, we will demonstrate the same determination in ensuring that Hamas is disarmed,” he said in a statement, according to The Times of Israel.

“We will not stop or let up until Hamas no longer presents a threat to the State of Israel,” he added.

Israeli opposition party slams passage of Gaza resolution

Avigdor Lieberman, an ultranationalist politician who leads the Yisrael Beytenu party, has criticised the Israeli government over the passage of the UN resolution on Gaza.

“What happened tonight at the UN is a result of the Israeli government’s failed conduct,” he wrote on X. “The decision led to a Palestinian state, a Saudi nuclear [programme] and F-35 planes for Turkey and Saudi Arabia.”

“This is a fire sale of Israel’s security. The face of the Middle East is changing, and not to our benefit,” he added.

Dozens of Israeli settlers launch arson attack in West Bank as attacks against Palestinians surge

https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/11/middleeast/west-bank-settler-violence-arson-latam-intl

Dozens of Israeli settlers launched an arson attack on an agricultural area in the occupied West Bank Tuesday evening, according to Palestinian activists in the area, marking the latest such attack in what has been a surge of settler violence.

The attack took place in the town of Beit Lid east of Tulkarm, damaging the Deir Sharaf Bedouin village and Al-Juneidi dairy factory, videos show and residents told CNN.

Footage obtained by CNN shows smoke engulfing the area, with Palestinian women heard shouting in the background, and men carrying extinguishers and water buckets scrambling to put out the fires.

Videos show torched trucks, tents and metal sheds, and smashed car windows. Residents said Palestinian civil defense and firefighters arrived at the scene about an hour after the fires started. Another video filmed by a Palestinian resident shows the settlers coming down a hill toward the Bedouin village.

This attack is the latest in a surge of settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, which have been taking place on a near-daily basis since mid-October. A United Nations report released Friday alleges that Israeli settlers launched at least 264 attacks in October, the largest number since the UN began tracking incidents in 2006, with this year’s olive harvest season marred by extreme violence.

CCTV footage of the arson attack obtained by CNN then shows the settlers attacking the dairy factory, brandishing clubs and setting fire to parked vehicles. One of the vehicles – a cargo truck bearing the dairy factory’s logo – appears to be completely torched, with a thick cloud of black smoke rising from it.

Finally reported by CNN but trying to put the blame on 'fringe youth' ?!

‘Anarchist fringe youth’

A senior official from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) condemned the violence. “The reality in which anarchist fringe youth act violently against innocent civilians and against security forces is unacceptable and is extremely serious,” Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth said in a statement shared by the IDF on Wednesday. “It must be dealt with firmly.”

He continued it was unacceptable for “lawbreakers” to “harm property and innocent civilians” while diverting the IDF’s focus “away from its mission of security and counterterrorism.”

Gilad Kariv, an Israeli lawmaker from the left-wing Democrats party, decried the settler attack on X. “Their goal is to ignite a third intifada, that will bring the IDF to operate in a way reminiscent of the operation in Gaza. This move will cost the lives of hundreds of Israel soldiers and civilians and thousands of Palestinians,” he said.

Foreshadowing?

The IDF said it dispatched its soldiers to the area following “a report of dozens of masked Israeli civilians who attacked Palestinians and set fire to property in the area.”

“During the incident, four Palestinians were injured and evacuated for medical treatment. Security forces operated to disperse the confrontation using riot dispersal means and apprehended several Israeli civilians,” the IDF said in a statement. The settlers also attacked the soldiers and damaged an Israeli military vehicle, the IDF said.

Yeah apprehended for attacking the IDF.

The article goes on for a lot longer then all the way at the bottom of the article, last line after a commercial:

Ben Ari told CNN the soldiers who arrived at the scene did not stop the attack, an accusation many Palestinians and activists have voiced in other incidents as well.

And the blowback

At least one killed and three injured after attack at West Bank junction

https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/18/middleeast/west-bank-vehicle-ramming-attack-intl

At least one person was killed and three injured after an attack at a junction in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, according to Israeli emergency services.

The people were attacked in a vehicle ramming and stabbing incident at Gush Etzion Junction, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The person killed was a man who died at the scene from a “severe stab wound,” according to Elad Pas, a paramedic with Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s emergency response service.Of those injured, one is a woman in serious condition, Pas said. A man and a teenage boy are also in moderate condition, according to the paramedic.

Two “terrorists” were “eliminated” by IDF soldiers at the scene of the attack, the military said.

Err doesn't that mean 3 were killed? 1+2 = 3?

“Several explosive materials were found in the vehicle used by the terrorists, and are currently being neutralized by Israel Border Police bomb disposal specialists,” it wrote in a statement.

Why would you ram a car then go on to stabbing people while transporting explosives? Claims simply to justify the "terrorist" label.

Desperate people committing suicide by IDF is what it is. And truly desperate as they know the IDF will come demolish their homes, arrest and displace their family members. People with nothing left to live for.

Orchestrated effort to extract Palestinians from Gaza under investigation by South Africa

South Africa says it will not accept any more flights similar to the one that arrived from Gaza last week. South Africa’s foreign minister says these flights are part of a broader agenda to clear Palestinians out of Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

“Officials say they are investigating what the minister of international relations and cooperation has described as an orchestrated effort to extract people from the territory,” says Al Jazeera’s Fahmida Miller, reporting from Johannesburg.

Fathima, one of the Palestinian refugees, said they arrived in Johannesburg on a flight organised by a company called Al-Majd Europe, which has been linked to the Israeli government.

The family paid thousands of dollars for the trip, not knowing their final destination until they landed in Kenya and were transferred onto another plane.

Palestinian FM warns against involvement in ‘illegal’ Al-Majd flights out of Gaza

Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin has said that controversial flights carrying Palestinians from Gaza to South Africa, organised by Al-Majd Europe, are part of an illegal ethnic cleansing process.

She has warned Palestinians not to get involved with the organisation or other groups seeking to remove them from the Strip.

“Not enough is known about this organisation … but we are investigating, and we are getting several sources of information on the illegality of what they are doing,” she told reporters after a bilateral meeting in Manila with the Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs Theresa Lazaro.

“What they are doing is actually displacement and part of the ethnic cleansing process. We need to send very strong messages to the people of Gaza not to have any dealings with Al-Majd or any other company doing the same kind of work.”

Israeli air strikes, demolitions continue behind yellow line

We’ve been hearing a series of explosions since early morning despite the ceasefire agreement being in place. The vast majority of these air strikes took place behind the yellow demarcation line, in areas under Israeli military control.

We have heard from civilians that the sound of these attacks continues to be heard, especially for families living adjacent to the line. Many have reported seeing Israeli bulldozers and tanks demolishing residential homes inside these areas, complicating the potential return of Palestinians.

Palestinian man wounded in Israeli attack in southern Gaza

Israeli attacks are part of the ongoing reality that we see daily in Gaza. What’s been disturbing is that people are still being wounded by Israel’s attacks.

This morning, we saw a Palestinian man wounded in Khan Younis. Yesterday evening, Israeli drones dropped grenades on the gates of UN-run shelters in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City.

We’ve been hearing the hum of Israeli drones and seeing jets above Gaza City.

Bombing is being heard in eastern parts of Gaza City and the eastern edge of Khan Younis, where residents report constant Israeli military activity. They’re continuing to demolish homes there in the zone under Israeli control.

A Palestinian has been killed by Israeli gunfire east of central Gaza’s Bureij refugee camp, a source at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital tells Al Jazeera. The attack took place beyond the so-called yellow line demarcating territory under Israeli military control.

Al Jazeera cameraman shot and wounded by Israeli forces in occupied West Bank

Israeli forces have shot and wounded an Al Jazeera cameraman in Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank. Fadi Yassin sustained an injury to his foot and is being taken to hospital.

The Al Jazeera team was at the site covering a protest by Palestinians near the Nur Shams refugee camp, east of Tulkarem. Residents were demanding to be allowed to return to their homes following raids by Israeli forces.

A child has also been shot and wounded in the attack, medical sources told our team.
Four Palestinians have also been arrested by the Israeli military.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Yassin said he was covering a demonstration by Palestinians in the Nur Shams refugee camp, east of the city Tulkarem, when the shooting took place. “[They] were demonstrating to demand return to their homes,” he said. “After they were displaced 10 months ago, the refugees feel let down by everyone.”

Yassin said he had been standing to the side of the protest, filming with a colleague before going for some interviews. “A soldier was shooting in the air. He then aimed for my legs. The bullet entered my left leg and exited my right.”

Israeli forces injure protesters, Al Jazeera journalist near Nur Shams refugee camp

The incident happened near the Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarem. This is a camp that the Israeli army has taken over since the beginning of the year, dispossessing the entire population of the camp.

The families who have now been displaced for almost a year have been trying to go back to their homes. They’ve been stopped every time. This time was no different: the Israeli army attacked the families; they attacked the journalists involved in covering the protest as well.

They shot at and injured our cameraman and detained another cameraman who works for a different broadcaster. Other people were also injured, including a 12-year-old child who is suffering from shrapnel wounds to the neck.

The Israeli army has renewed the closure of the camp and has barred anyone from entering it and reclaiming their properties.

Israeli military demolishes Palestinian home east of Jenin

The Israeli army has demolished a Palestinian home and another building with bulldozers east of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, the Al Jazeera team on the ground is reporting.

The buildings were in the village of Jalbun, 13km (8 miles) east of the city of Jenin, and were demolished under the pretext of lacking a permit, the team reported.

Reaction in Gaza to UN resolution ‘overwhelmingly sceptical’

The reaction in Gaza to this UN resolution is overwhelmingly sceptical and in many cases deeply negative.

For people here, the idea of an international stabilisation force is not viewed as a guarantee of protection but rather a foreign security arrangement imposed without their consent.

Many Palestinians feel its presence might place further restrictions and controls on them, which is seen as an extension of the occupation. We have also heard concerns about the mandate that has been assigned, regarding policing, security arrangements, border security and the demilitarisation process.

People believe that in this phase of the ceasefire deal, there is a stark preference for security arrangements rather than conducting a comprehensive alleviation of the humanitarian crisis across the Strip.

A question that has been echoing among Palestinians in Gaza is whether this force will afford them protection and prevent Israel from continuing its air strikes across the Strip.

‘I completely reject this decision’: Palestinians react to UN resolution

Al Jazeera has spoken to Palestinians in Gaza City about the UN Security Council’s endorsement of Trump’s plan for the enclave.

“I completely reject this decision,” said Moamen Abdul-Malek. “Our people … are able to rule ourselves. We don’t need forces from Arab or foreign countries to rule us. We are the people of this country, and we will bear responsibility for it.”

Mohammed Hamdan said the plan, which would see the establishment and deployment of an international stabilisation force to demilitarise the territory, was not in the interests of Palestinians. “It would strip the resistance of its weapons, despite the fact that resistance is a legitimate right of peoples under occupation.”

Sanaa Mahmoud Kaheel said Palestinians rejected the decision, which would bring uncertainty to Gaza. “They initially said the Palestinian Authority would take control of the Gaza Strip, and we were enthusiastic about that. But things will be unclear with the international forces, and we do not know what might happen tomorrow or the day after tomorrow with them being in Gaza,” she said.

“This could help Trump tighten his grip on Gaza and work towards establishing a ‘riviera’ there, as he himself said before. Nothing is guaranteed.”

Main events on November 18th

  • Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank have shot and injured an Al Jazeera journalist and a child during a demonstration by Palestinians in the Nur Shams refugee camp.
  • One person has been killed and three wounded in a suspected car-ramming and stabbing attack at a junction near Hebron.
  • Hamas has rejected a resolution on Gaza that was adopted by the United Nations Security Council yesterday, saying it “imposes an international guardianship mechanism” on the enclave.
  • UN chief Antonio Guterres has called for “the diplomatic momentum” behind the Gaza resolution to be turned into “concrete and urgently needed steps on the ground”.
  • The UN-backed proposal on Gaza is “the first step” towards peace, the Palestinian Authority’s foreign minister said.
  • An Israeli drone attack in the city of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon has killed one person.

Israeli air strike on Lebanon refugee camp kills 13 people

An Israeli airstrike on the Ein el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon killed at least 13 people. Israel says it targeted a Hamas training site, but Hamas denies any military presence. It’s the deadliest attack since an Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire in November 2024.

  • The drone strike hit a vehicle in the car park of a mosque in the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp, located on the outskirts of the coastal city of Sidon.
  • At least four others were wounded.
  • Various schools in Sidon are closed today.
  • Israel claims the attack targeted Hamas members and that the Palestinian group was operating a training compound in the refugee camp.
  • Hamas has called Israel’s justification a “fabrication” and emphasised that it doesn’t have training facilities in Lebanese camps.
  • The attack is the latest in a series Israel has carried out in Lebanon in violation of the ceasefire since November 2024, including shooting at UN peacekeepers earlier this week and killing a school principal near the city of Tyre.

Rescuers search for survivors of Ein el-Hilweh attack

Here’s what to know about the camp and its history with Israel:

  • Located on the outskirts of the coastal city of Sidon, Ein el-Hilweh was established in 1948 and is now the largest of Lebanon’s 12 refugee camps.
  • At least 64,000 people lived there as of 2023.
  • Israel views Ein el-Hilweh as significant for its strategic location and what it has described as potential to serve as a hub for cross-border attacks, experts have told Al Jazeera.
  • Last October, amid Israel’s escalating attacks on Lebanon during its conflict with Hezbollah, Israel bombed the camp and killed five people.
  • Israel’s history of attacks on Ein el-Hilweh goes back decades, with bombings reported in 1974 and 1982.

Lebanon attack a marked escalation of ceasefire violations

We still do not have permission from Lebanon’s military intelligence to access the camp, but it’s only a few hundred metres from where we are right now.

We’ve been speaking to people here, making their way out of the camp and heading to work. They’re telling us that a sports field – where the youth usually gather and play football – was hit.

This is what Hamas said in their statement, too. They denied what the Israeli army claimed, that this was a training compound for the group.

This is an area where Hamas does have influence. The camp is home to tens of thousands of people. It’s very crowded but it’s also where Palestinian factions have offices.

People here are worried because this is really a marked escalation – the deadliest attack since the ceasefire came into force in November last year. Just a few minutes ago, there was a targeted strike in the south of the country in the village of Tyre.

Israel has also targeted Hamas officials and Hamas members, but most of those attacks were outside the camp’s perimeter.

Drone attack in southern Lebanon kills man, injures schoolchildren

An air raid in southern Lebanon’s Bint Jbeil district has killed one person and wounded several others, the National News Agency (NNA) reports. Earlier this morning, a strike on a moving vehicle in al-Tayri town killed its driver, Bilal Shaito, and caused a fire.

Many students were wounded as their school bus passed by the site of the attack.

Israeli army warns of upcoming attacks on two Lebanese villages

An Israeli army spokesperson has warned that the country will carry out attacks in the southern Lebanese villages of Deir Kifa and Chehour.

In a post on X, the spokesperson shared maps pinpointing several buildings he said would be targeted in the towns, and warned civilian residents to immediately evacuate the areas.

Israeli air raids hit southern Lebanese villages

Lebanon’s National News Agency reports that Israeli warplanes have carried out attacks in the southern villages of Deir Kifa and Chehour, around an hour and a half after Israel’s military warned it would target buildings there.

In a post on X, Israel’s military confirmed attacks are under way in southern Lebanon, targeting what it claims is infrastructure used by Hezbollah.

‘Panic’ in southern Lebanese villages before Israel struck

The Israeli army has [told] residents of two villages in southern Lebanon – Deir Kifa and Chehour – to leave or move away from buildings they have designated as Hezbollah’s military infrastructure. More often than that, that means people’s homes.

Israel has continuously targeted Hezbollah’s personnel and assets, and even Palestinian factions and their assets over the past year without warning. So when they do this [issue warnings], it really has a psychological effect, creating chaos and panic.

We understand that parents have rushed to schools close to these buildings to take their children home. Other people packed whatever they could take and left the village. They’ll have to wait for hours before returning.

This is all about saying who is in control – that is the message.

Israel military hits three buildings in southern Lebanon, warns of attacks in two more

In the past few minutes, the Israeli military destroyed up to three buildings in two towns in southern Lebanon after issuing threats for them.

Also in the past few minutes, an Israeli army spokesperson issued yet another evacuation threat, telling people who live in two other towns in southern Lebanon [Tair Filsay and Aynata] to leave and posting a map on social media showing exactly which building they intend to hit.

Video shows moment Israeli bombs hit Deir Kifa

A social media clip, which has been verified by Al Jazeera, shows the moment Israeli air strikes hit a building in the southern Lebanese village. The Israeli army had threatened attacks on the village roughly 90 minutes prior to the strike.
