Flotilla boat enters Gaza’s waters, 23 others still on the way

We previously reported that at least 26 flotilla boats are still sailing towards Gaza’s coast.

Now, according to the Global Sumud Flotilla live tracker, one vessel named Mikeno is currently in Gaza’s territorial waters. It’s unclear whether it has been intercepted by Israeli forces yet.

Israeli commandos continue to intercept the boats, with the number of operational ships now at 24, including several others near Gaza’s territorial waters.

Status of Oxygono crew unknown as video shows Israeli commandos boarding

The Sumud flotilla organisers have posted a video of Israeli forces capturing the Oxygono vessel in international waters.

“Livestreams and communication are down, and the status of those on board is unknown. Governments must demand their safety and release,” they said in a statement.

At least 11 killed in Gaza in Israeli attacks since dawn

Israeli bombardment continues in war-ravaged Gaza with at least 11 Palestinians killed in the morning hours throughout the besieged Strip, hospital sources and rescuers tell Al Jazeera.

  • A child was killed by Israeli drone fire in the Ansar area, west of Gaza City.
  • At least nine Palestinians were killed and 13 wounded in an attack on a displacement camp in the central Gaza Strip.
  • One person was killed and at least 10 injured in a drone strike on Palestinians south of Deir el-Balah, in central Gaza.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 66,148 people and wounded 168,716 since October 2023.

Nelson Mandela’s grandson urges ‘safe passage to Gaza’ as Israeli ships approach

Mandla Mandela, grandson of the late South African anti-apartheid icon, has shared a message as Israeli navy ships approached his boat.

“We are calling on the entire global community to ensure that you exact pressure on your governments to call for our safe passage to Gaza,” Mandela said in a video post.

In the case of abduction by Israeli forces, he urged supporters of the flotilla to call on their respective governments for the activists’ immediate release.

‘Their crime was to carry aid for the hapless Palestinian people’: Pakistan

Pakistan has condemned Israel’s interception of dozens of vessels in the Sumud flotilla as a “dastardly attack”.

“We hope and pray for the safety of all those who have been illegally apprehended by Israeli forces and call for their immediate release. Their crime was to carry aid for the hapless Palestinian people,” said Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s prime minister.

Flotilla detainees making their way to Israel ‘peacefully’

Israel’s Foreign Ministry says Gaza activists detained from the flotilla are “safe and in good health” after navy commandos seized them at sea.

“Deportation procedures” to Europe for those detained will now begin, it said.

Since last night, Israel has intercepted at least 21 out of 44 boats carrying humanitarian aid in an international attempt to break the devastating blockade on war-battered Gaza.

I didn't know Malaysia, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil etc were in Europe...

Brazil slams Israel’s interception of ‘peaceful protesters’

Brazil has condemned the interception of the Gaza-bound aid flotilla, with several Brazilian nationals on board, including lawmaker Luizianne Lins, by the Israeli navy.

Brasilia “deplores the Israeli government’s military action, which violates rights and endangers the physical well-being of peaceful protesters”, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“The responsibility for the safety of those detained now rests with Israel,” it added.

Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira earlier said his government communicated “directly” to Israel its concern for the 15 Brazilians taking part in the flotilla. The South American country is one of many worldwide that have called on Israel to remove restrictions on humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip.

‘Act of terror’: Turkiye blasts Israel’s seizure of Gaza aid boats

The Gaza aid flotilla’s progress across the Mediterranean Sea has garnered international attention as nations, including Turkiye, Spain, and Italy, sent boats or drones in case their nationals required assistance.

Turkiye’s Foreign Ministry called Israel’s “attack” on the Global Sumud Flotilla “an act of terror” that endangered the lives of innocent civilians.

The Istanbul chief prosecutor’s office said it launched an investigation into the detention of 24 Turkish citizens on board the vessels, including for deprivation of liberty, seizure of transport vehicles, and damage to property, the Anadolu news agency reported.

Israeli violations to be sent to ICJ as onboard lawyers record seizures

Lawyers on board the flotilla vessels are documenting violations by Israel of international humanitarian and marine law.

The illegal actions by Israel’s navy will then be sent to the UN’s International Court of Justice, Al Jazeera’s Hassan Massoud, on board one of the vessels in the Mediterranean Sea, reported.

“We are monitoring all the cameras, and we can confirm that several boats are still trying to reach Gaza. Even if just one of the boats reaches Gaza, this would achieve their goal to break the siege.”

He said another flotilla is now sailing towards Gaza after leaving from Sicily, Italy, signalling activists are continuing efforts to reach the starving Palestinian people and put a spotlight on Israel’s total blockade of food, water, and medicine.

Spain summons Israel’s envoy after Gaza flotilla interception

Spain has summoned Israel’s top representative in Madrid in response to Israeli commandos intercepting the Gaza-bound flotilla.

“Today I summoned the charge d’affaires here in Madrid,” Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares told public broadcaster TVE, saying 65 Spaniards are travelling with the flotilla.

Israel withdrew its ambassador to Madrid last year after Spain recognised a Palestinian state.

‘Respect international law’: Australia monitors Israel’s flotilla seizures

Australia says it’s aware of reports of “detainments” by Israeli soldiers on the flotilla carrying activists and aid bound for Gaza.

Canberra said it stands ready to provide consular assistance to its affected citizens on board. “Australia calls on all parties to respect international law, to ensure the safety and humane treatment of those involved,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

A. You mean Israel (all parties? what the civilians on little sail boats?), can't even call Israel out...
B. It's kidnapping / piracy, not detentions.
C. Respecting international law means not kidnapping your citizens in the first place.

UK decries ‘atrocious humanitarian crisis’ in Gaza as flotilla raided

The British government is “very concerned” about Israel’s interception of the flotilla, the Foreign Office says, adding it made clear to Israeli authorities the situation should be resolved safely.

“We are very concerned about the situation with the Sumud Flotilla, we are in touch with the families of a number of British nationals involved,” it said in a statement.

“The aid carried by the flotilla should be turned over to humanitarian organisations on the ground to be delivered safely into Gaza. It is the responsibility of the Israeli government to resolve the atrocious humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“That means immediately and unconditionally lifting restrictions on aid so that the UN and NGOs can deliver food, medicine, and other essentials to civilians in desperate need.”

Organisers of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is transporting medicine and food to Gaza, said earlier that Israeli navy forces stopped several of its boats, and they used “active aggression”.

Israel has ‘no authority nor sovereignty’ over Palestine’s waters

Palestine’s Foreign Ministry has condemned Israel’s “attack and aggression” against the Gaza aid flotilla after at least 21 boats were intercepted.

It said it’s “gravely concerned” about the safety of those on board and holds Israel responsible for their “security and wellbeing”.

“The State of Palestine recalls that the Global Sumud Flotilla is a peaceful and civilian-led initiative aimed at breaking Israel’s inhumane and illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip and put an end to Israel’s starvation policy and genocide, in accordance with international law,” the ministry said.

“The State of Palestine reiterates that Israel, whose occupation of Palestine was declared illegal by the International Court of Justice, has no authority nor sovereignty over Palestine’s territorial waters.”

The ministry commended the “courageous participants and their determination to break Israel’s siege and end its genocide”.

Total of 30 Turkish citizens taken by Israeli forces as probe launched

The Istanbul chief prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation after Israeli naval commandos arrested Turkish citizens on board the Gaza aid flotilla.

The probe concerns “Turkish citizens arrested following the attack carried out by elements of the Israeli navy in international waters against the Global Sumud flotilla”, a statement said.

It cited the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and said it would look into “aggravated looting, material damage, and torture”. Turkish media said 30 Turkish citizens in all were taken by Israeli forces.

Turkiye denounced the “act of terrorism” by Israel after the flotilla was intercepted, adding it hoped the incident “will not compromise efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza”.

Malaysia PM: ‘Israeli regime must be stopped immediately’

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says he’s been informed of the detention of 23 Malaysians on board Gaza aid flotilla ships, by Israeli commandos.

Anwar said in a video posted on social media he will seek the assistance of Middle Eastern leaders – including Turkiye, Egypt and Qatar – to secure their release.

“Once again, I emphasise that the injustices perpetrated by the Israeli regime must be stopped immediately. Malaysia will not remain silent when the rights and dignity of our people are trampled upon,” Anwar said.

Israel’s interception of Gaza flotilla ‘a grave offence’, says South Africa

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa says Israel’s capture of boats from the Global Sumud Flotilla is a “grave offence” against “global solidarity and sentiment that is aimed at relieving suffering in Gaza”.

Ramaphosa called on Israel to immediately release South Africans on the flotilla, including anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela.

“South Africa calls on Israel to ensure that the life-saving cargo transported by this flotilla reaches the people of Gaza, as the flotilla represents solidarity with Gaza not confrontation with Israel,” he said.

“My thoughts are with all of the abductees and their families and it is my expectation that Israel will release the human rights activists as these abductions serve no purpose in the context of efforts to secure peace in the Middle East.”

Only 4 boats still sailing to Gaza: Flotilla tracker

The Global Sumud Flotilla tracker has changed the status of nearly all vessels of the 44-boat fleet to either “intercepted” or “assumed intercepted” by Israel’s navy.

Four vessels are believed to still be sailing including the Summertime-Jong and Shireen, both of which are legal-support boats carrying lawyers.

The Mikeno – the first flotilla vessel to make it into Palestine’s waters – and the Marinette are also still sailing.

Rights group denounces nations ‘enabling genocide’ as activists seized

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has denounced the Israeli navy’s seizures of Gaza-bound activists carrying aid for starving Palestinians.

“Once again the Israeli occupation has demonstrated that it will kidnap humanitarian activists and engage in piracy in international waters, all to maintain its lawless blockade of the Palestinian people,” Edward Ahmed Mitchell, CAIR’s deputy executive director, said in a statement.

“Every nation that pays lip service to international law should condemn this illegal attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla and take their own steps to forcibly break the siege of Gaza. In the case of western nations that continue to enable Israel’s genocide – even as their own citizens risk life and limb to stop it – anti-Palestinian racism and the influence of anti-Palestinian lobby groups clearly explain their ongoing complicity.”

Ahmed Mitchell said CAIR “applauds” the flotilla activists’ “courage”.

“We demand their immediate release and we urge the international community, including western, Arab and Muslim nations, to take action against the Israeli occupation for its crimes.”

At least 20 killed across Gaza as Israel intensifies attacks

Since dawn, at least 20 people have been killed throughout the Gaza Strip, hospital sources tell Al Jazeera.

Dozens of Palestinians have also been wounded in Israeli strikes focusing on Gaza’s north and central areas.

Among the dead were four men collecting firewood near the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. A Palestinian man and his wife were also killed in an Israeli drone strike on a house in Bureij.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 66,148 people and wounded 168,716 since October 2023. Thousands more are believed to be buried under the rubble.

Zionist puppet Meloni

Italian PM says Gaza aid flotilla brings ‘no benefit’ to Palestinians

After the detention of 22 Italians by Israel, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni repeated her criticism of their attempt to reach Gaza and break the siege.

“Obviously, we will do everything we can to ensure these people can return to Italy as soon as possible,” Meloni told reporters at a European Union meeting in Denmark. “I continue to believe that all this brings no benefit to the Palestinian people.”

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told parliament earlier that Israel has detained 22 Italian citizens who were in good health.

“I am relieved to note that the rules of engagement have been respected and that, up to this point, no acts of violence or complications have been recorded in the operation carried out by the Israeli forces,” Tajani said.

Israel’s interception of the flotilla led to protests in Italy, with unions calling a general strike for Friday.

Kidnapping and seizing boats is not an act of violence? Wtf, enjoy your nation wide shutdown by labor unions.

Kuwait monitoring situation of nationals detained from aid ship

Kuwait says it’s closely watching the plight of its detained nationals on board the GSF vessel, the Spectre, which was intercepted by the Israeli navy.

Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali al-Yahya told the state news agency KUNA his ministry “is exerting all possible efforts to ensure the safety of the citizens and is working for their immediate release”.

“The Foreign Ministry will spare no efforts in this regard,” he said, adding the safety of Kuwaiti citizens is a “top priority”.

According to the flotilla tracker, three Kuwaiti nationals are part of the aid convoy, of whom two were detained following an Israeli raid on their boat. Those detained are being transported to Israel’s Ashdod port.

All Gaza flotilla boats intercepted except one, says Israel

Israel’s Foreign Ministry has announced none of the Global Sumud Flotilla boats has “succeeded in its attempt to enter an active combat zone or breach the lawful naval blockade”.

“All the passengers are safe and in good health. They are making their way safely to Israel from where they will be deported to Europe,” the ministry said.

However, it noted, one vessel remains sailing and “if it approaches its attempt to enter an active combat zone and breach the blockade will also be prevented”.

Seized activists likely held in high-security Israeli prison

Omer Shatz, an Israeli international law expert at Paris’s Sciences Po University, says, unlike the jails where flotilla activists were held previously, this time those seized face a maximum security facility.

Shatz said the 500 or so Gaza activists could be held at Ketziot Prison in southern Israel. Ketziot is a high-security facility that doesn’t normally hold “immigration” detainees.

The activists may be held there because processing hundreds of people would be logistically difficult for Israel, said Shatz. However, he described Ketziot as being known for its harsh conditions.

There have also been recent proposals by Israeli officials – among them far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir – that flotilla participants be subjected to prolonged detention.

“There are serious concerns that activists may be treated more harshly than in previous flotilla missions,” said Israeli human rights group Adalah.

Germany calls for protection of captured activists on Gaza flotilla

Germany has urged Israel to guarantee the safety of all those on the flotilla.

“We were in contact with the Israeli government and called on them to comply with their obligations under international law and to act with proportionality. We also called for the protection of all those on board to be guaranteed; to our knowledge, this has been done,” said a spokesperson.

The German embassy in Israel is trying to establish contact with any German nationals involved.

European Green Party calls flotilla interception ‘breach of international law’

The European Green Party has “strongly condemned” Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla with all but one boat now seized.

In a statement, Green’s Co-Chair Vula Tsetsi said the blocking of humanitarian aid and “silencing independent observers is unacceptable”.

“It constitutes a clear breach of international law. We call on EU institutions and national governments to take immediate action to secure the safety and release of all those on board,” Tsetsi said.

“We call for life-saving aid to be urgently delivered to the civilian population in Gaza. We call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire – and for EU institutions to play their part in ensuring it. The Israeli government must be held accountable for its acts of violence and the genocide it continues to perpetrate.”

Qatar calls for immediate release of all flotilla detainees

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has condemned Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla vessels and described the mass seizure as a “threat to maritime safety and freedom of navigation”.

In a statement, the ministry called for the immediate release of those detained and demanded “those responsible be held accountable”.

“The ministry reiterates Qatar’s call on the international community to uphold its moral and legal responsibilities by taking decisive action against the continued violations of international law by Israeli occupation authorities,” it said.

“The ministry further stresses the importance of ensuring the safe, unimpeded, and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to all areas of the Gaza Strip.”

Capture of aid flotilla exemplifies ‘brutality in Gaza’, Erdogan says

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called Israel’s interception of the Gaza aid vessels an “act of piracy”. In an address to his AK Party, he said the move in international waters proves “the genocide apparatus is in a state of frenzy to conceal its crimes in Gaza”.

“The genocidal [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu government cannot tolerate even the slightest chance for peace to take hold,” Erdogan said.

“The Global Sumud Flotilla has once again shown the world the brutality in Gaza and Israel’s murderous face. We will not abandon our Palestinian brothers and sisters and will work with all our might to secure a ceasefire and restore peace.”

Erdogan made the speech after the Istanbul chief prosecutor’s office announced it has opened an investigation into the detention of Turkish citizens on board the boats trying to break the siege of Gaza.

Israel says 40 flotilla boats seized

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that 40 of the boats have been intercepted, that those who were on board have been detained, and that one group after another will be arriving at the Ashdod port, where deportation proceedings will commence.

They will be deported to Europe, according to that statement from the ministry.

Of course, none of these activists were trying to get into Israel – they were, as we’ve been reporting, trying to get to Gaza and to [its] territorial waters.
