Forums - Nintendo - How Will be Switch 2 Performance Wise?

Switch 2 is out! How you classify?

Terribly outdated! 3 4.55%

Outdated 1 1.52%

Slightly outdated 16 24.24%

On point 37 56.06%

High tech! 7 10.61%

A mixed bag 2 3.03%

Total:66

Also had a lack of impulse control and bought the bundle. Already have RE7/8 on other platforms (bought 8 twice, once for the VR version.) But Village is probably my favorite RE and it was worth buying it a third time. $90 for all three isn't too bad, especially if somebody never played them before.

How is the gyro aiming on these Resident Evil games? I'm assuming the Switch 2 versions have it, right? Thinking of buying but I'm still playing through FF7 Remake Intergrade.

Gyro aiming is there and works very well, I'm someone who prefers it so that's how I am playing.

I also took Village for a spin; as an older crossgen game it holds up really well on Switch 2.

As you'd expect, image quality is a lot sharper than Requiem and framerate is more consistent. Where Requiem looks like a very competent but downgraded port, Village feels like a "full fat" experience free of obvious compromise.

Village is an older game, should be easy to run.  Have you played it?  I feel like an outlier, because I actually think it is my favorite RE game.  I really loved that game.

I haven't actually but I am very keen to, just gotta play through Requiem first haha.

I did thoroughly enjoy RE7, and Village kinda looks like a mix of that and my favourite game of all time, RE4.

I really dislike the controls of modern Resident Evil games. A huge downgrade from original RE4 and RE5 which had an awesome and unique movement/aiming/shooting/camera system. I couldn't even finish the RE4R demo, it was generic af.

Capcom are pros at destroying the unique aspects about their games. But they must be doing things right, because their modern games sell a crapload.

Skyrim is fixed now:

It's not quite perfect as the game's DNA is still rooted in the Creation Engine circa 2011, but you get a mostly stable 60fps mode now, with much reduced input latency.

This is great to hear! Didn't one user argue that the Switch 2's CPU was too weak to run Skyrim at 60fps? Wonder if he'll change his stance now.

I made that point and still believe it because that was in reference to the level of graphics at that point. The new Switch 2 portable 60fps mode for Skyrim drops to 640x360p native resolution under load, has massively reduced detail, more pop in and still struggles to maintain 60fps. I'm sure you could make the case that the PS4 and Xbox One could have done 60fps well if they kept to 360/PS3 visuals with no volumetric lighting etc. You have to relate frame performance to how much graphic detail is being generated as there is always a CPU cost to more graphic detail and its processing. On PC its well documented that to get to 60fps you sacrifice graphic detail and resolution. This is nothing new.

I'm sure the same will be true of Fallout 4 and achieving 60fps there too.

I did the Skyrim anniversary upgrade for £10.79 which if done correctly gets you anniversary plus the Switch 2 upgrade for free. It looks like I have the original Skyrim as a virtual game card too so I believe I can sell on my original skyrim cartridge now. I shall be starting this soon after I can get off Mario Kart World. I personally don't pick up as much missing graphic detail in portable mode compared to docked so happy Bethesda have taken this approach with 60fps especially with the Switch 2's sluggish screen panel.

Switch 2 gets a big ticket Resident Evil new release day and date with other platforms. Switch 1 did not get RE7 or 8 in the same way (streaming only variants released way afterwards). This is truly IMO the real realization of the full potential of the "Switch" concept ... real big 3rd party games like this being able to come to the system with minimal fuss. The Switch 1 never quite got there.

Switch 2 basically delivered the hardware goods at the end of the day. Good hardware performance and a slightly premium but still a reasonable price point, not much more one could reasonably ask for here taking all reasonable things into account.

A portable console being able to play modern console games in this fashion without a big delay in the porting process is a game changer for gamers and the industry in general as well. When I was growing up with consoles the idea of being able to play something like the newest Resident Evil on the portable devices of the time ... (imagine a Game Boy Color or Game Gear running Resident Evil 1 circa 1996 or Game Boy Advance or even a PSP running Resident Evil 4 circa 2005) would have been unthinkable.

Kids today are lucky. To be able to play modern 3D games like this on the go with no fuss is amazing, I would have loved to have a device like the Switch 2 when I was growing up.

They should or just allow a 40cap whenever they have a dodgy 60fps mode.

The reality is though most TVs in peoples houses are not 120hz capable and don't support 40fps. I'm sure the number are increasing but for any TV bought prior to 2022 it was an uncommon feature. Hell my $800 OLED LG from 2021 doesn't feature it and I thought it was one of the best reviewed TVs from its year.

Which LG OLED model do you have? Even my LG OLED C9 from 2019 supports 4K/120 Hz, 1440p/120 Hz and 1080p/120 Hz and therefore also 4K/40 fps, 1440p/40 fps and 1080p/40 fps.

So should LG OLED B9, BX, B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, CX, C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, GX, G1, G2, G3, G4, G5 and G6 thanks to HDMI 2.1

And even the older LG OLEDs like LG OLED B7, B8, C7, C8 with HDMI 2.0 should be able to display 1440p/120 Hz or at least 1080p/120 Hz.

I immediately went to options and turned that on before starting the game, and it works great, I'm using the NS1 Pro Controller.

Requiem is one of those games that really shows off what a gamechanger DLSS is; without it, it would look pretty dire at 540p.

There was some talk here that DLSS would be pointless unless it was like native res of 1080p at least, lol. I always said even at lower resolutions, DLSS would be very helpful to the Switch 2, gratifying to see that play out in real time in a big ticket next-gen game.
