5 more hints coming up:

25) Your weapon is three in one

24) Animagus

23) An asset reusing sequel that wasn't called glorified DLC

22) The protagonist is the only of the characters that uses their real name in this game

21) Ends with falling (depending on the ending)

Also time for a late update on the guessing game. Still a tad onesided, but we're only halfway after all.

  • Machina – 12
  • Mnementh – 4
  • Veknoid_Outcast – 3
  • Darashiva – 3
  • Peelman – 2
  • TruckOSaurus – 1

#24 - maybe Twilight Princess?

#23 - could be Tears of the Kingdom?

#22 - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors?

2 out of 3! 24 and 22 are correct. Nice catch on 999

28. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Ultra
I am a sucker for 'action command' RPGs. Not ones with real-time battles since they don't allow one you command each party member in detail, but it adds a morw active component to standard turn based RPGs. That aside, Superstar Saga would have probably made this list even if it was just turn based. It just such a joy to play, being unrepentantly fun and goofy.

27. Super Smash Bros Ultimate
The Smash Bros series is some of the best fighting games around imo. It's very easy to pick up and play, but with enough depth to make it challenging and of course you get icons from all across gaming. Ultimate is my favorite from the series, as while there are parts done better in other games (Brawl had the best campaign, Melee had the most fun side missions, etc) but Ultimate brings together so many good parts and has the best roster.

26. A Link Between Worlds
I know it's a re-make but, I honestly consider this the best version of a Link to the Past. The new puzzles using the wall-walking mechanic are great, the ability to do the dungeons any order by renting/buying key items grants a great sense of freedom, and even the story is improved. Ravio is a little silly for my taste, but the main people of Lorule have great chemistry with the more familiar cast.

I think TotK actually was called "glorified DLC" by some wasn't it? What certainly wasn't though in this series was Majora's Mask. Which is my guess.

Exactly, that was the logic behind the hint as well.

More hints!

40. Tactical JRPG set in China. 1st game in the series. The name is basically the old name + Tactics instead of the beat em up name.

Moving on the map is similar to chess in that unit types have varying levels of movement (i.e.: horsemen can move more squares forward than the footmen). The order of each unit is decided by whoever has the highest morale during a day of battle. The battlefield's terrain also affects how armies can proceed on the map. After a successful move, the army will be asked to face either north, south, west, or east. Their positioning affects the unit's capability to defend from attacks or help allies.
Each segment of the story has set objectives with a number of turns given to decide how to complete it. Objectives are basically stepping stones for the ruler's motivation and method of conquest. For instance, Liu Bei can forge an alliance with Lu Bu or declare war on him instead. The ultimate goal of the game is to unite the land under one ruler but the method of doing so is up to the player.

32. A JRPG from a long running series, this entry was the first to put a lot of budget in graphics. The game starts out on a pretty big planet full of slaves, Eventually you can go to another planet/moon against the enslavers.
31. Souls meets 3 kingdoms China, this entry however is closer to Sekiro than Dark Souls. There is more magic, and all the bosses have some magical vulnerability, and there are many different tools for fighting.
30. Another JRPG from 2022, this game features dungeons within the main characters themselves. In fact by going into those main characters one can even revive them from the dead.
29. This JRPG is unlike others, because it is set on the streets of modern Tokyo. This game has a job system, much like the real job counterparts, the stats, abilities and costumes can vary.
28. This 2015/2016 JRPG is from a media franchise that used to rival Pokemon. It featured a simple story and more than enough monsters to collect like the old ps1 games.
27. This JRPG is kind of a celebration of a certain JRPG series, the world is full of famous characters. This game is a return to turn based combat and a simple story.
26. This 2022 JRPG released to universal acclaim, featuring an open world more monstrous than anyone could have imagined. To travel throughout the lands, you can summon a mount and even do combat on the mount.
24. This game featured more of gothic/horror theme. Unlike the main series this game is very aggressive, no shields to block.

40) I don't know anything about it but Dynasty Tactics?

32) Ohohoho! Tales of Symphonia. About 30 spots too low but I'll allow it

26) Ahh Elden Ring. Not what I would call a JRPG, but it is an RPG from japan so technically not wrong

40 Correct.

32 Not quite, maybe it is a common theme??

26 Yes. I use JRPG term loosely in order to have more good games than bad ones, don't want FFXIII somehow getting into my top 50 JRPGs.
