Paper Mario was good, but somewhat inferior to Super Mario RPG on SNES.
My vote goes to Final Fantasy IX. My third favorite game from the franchise.

I would give it it resident evil cv or Jet set radio because of how much I played and enjoyed those two. But, even though I never played part 1, I’ll vote for Dey’s Ex because I love part 2 so much.
Deus Ex is THE game
Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.
Very good and underrated year to kickstart the new millenium! Obviosuly the Dreamcast had an outstanding year with the likes of Grandia II, Phantasy Star Online, RE: Code Veronica and ofc the wonderful Skies of Arcadia. N64 was winding down but Majora's Mask is a top Zelda game imo. The PS1 had its last hurrah this year with Vagrant Story, Dragon Quest VII, and my vote for GotY 2000, Final Fantasy IX.
Skies of Arcadia ran it really close for me, but while Skies had better combat and exploration, FF9 had a better story and characters and that's more important to me personally. Both had exceptional soundtracks too!
I had a hard time picking between Majora Mask, Paper Mario and Diablo 2 and finally went with Paper Mario.
Only to realize too late that I should've chosen 'Other' since I'd completely forgotten that Banjo Tooie released this year.

Our real life babies turned out better :) My wife didn't want to play anymore after our first born electrocuted himself while changing a light bulb. The game has some evil streaks as well... Annoying neighbor? Lure them into the pool and remove the ladder or lock them in a room by removing the door. The sims is as much a murder simulator as CoD lol. Maybe even more since it's virtual murder in the first degree :p |
Lol XD.

I agree with your view, and I would even say that even with just a year or two of life it can already make a case for having a better library than GC and XBox. If it had a full life, I'd also imagine that a lot of XBox games would've been Dreamcast games.
The Sims for sure! It became its own type of genre and it was such an addictive game. I still go back and play The Sims 2 for a bit every now and then. My wife is obsessed with Sims 4 as well haha

Yeah. There are lot of games from that year that I personally like more, but Sims were just something else, so that's where my vote went. Will Wright really knew how to, practically, make a new genre, striking gold twice, with SimCity and The Sims.
