WiiU's failure was due to MULTIPLE issues.
1) Naming.
2) Price.
3) Gimmick.
4) Game release cadence. (Prolonged droughts).
5) Advertising.
And more.
Quality of the games themselves were not the issue as Mario Kart 8 is one of the -best- selling titles of all time and Breath of the Wild, one of the highest rated.
I bought a WiiU when the console was being depreciated as it was the cheapest way to buy and play Breath of the Wild, I knew what it was.. As I was heavily debating with a few forum users who kept arguing it was more powerful than the Xbox One or Playstation 4 rather frequently, but I would be an exception as I like to understand hardware at a low level.
The game library is extremely tiny, but it's definitely a quality one, one that benefited the Switch greatly as the ports of Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros Deluxe, Tropical Freezer, Captain Toad were all rated highly.
Going forth however, I don't think consumers would accept a "reset" of their game library when upgrading consoles, gamers expect their digital and physical purchases to carry forwards, so it will be interesting to see how Nintendo manages all that as their online systems tend to be an extremely weak point.
