Americas Hardware Estimates for July 2023

PS5 Outsells Switch and Xbox Series X|S - Americas Hardware Estimates for July 2023

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in the Americas (USA, Canada, & Latin America) with 314,034 units sold for July 2023, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 17.50 million units lifetime in the Americas.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 302,291 units to bring its lifetime sales to 49.34 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 192,459 units to bring their lifetime sales to 13.38 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 6,982 units to bring its lifetime sales to 41.50 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 122,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 35,000 units. PS4 sold 191,862 units for the month of July 2016 and Xbox One sales were at 227,638 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 47,152 (-13.1%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 99,569 units (-934.1%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 71,838 units (-19.2%). The PlayStation 4 is up by 2,909 units (71.42%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are down by over 184,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by nearly 94,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by nearly 122,000 units. It should be noted July is a four week month, while June was a five week month.

2023 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 3.39 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 2.82 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 1.83 million units.

PS5 Best-Seller, NS and XS Sales Drop - Europe Hardware Estimates for July 2023

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in Europe with 507,782 units sold for July 2023, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 12.58 million units lifetime in Europe.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 223,926 units to bring its lifetime sales to 32.87 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 138,284 units to bring their lifetime sales to 6.29 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 6,400 units to bring its lifetime sales to 45.85 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 172,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by over 36,000 units. PS4 sold 335,581 units for the month of July 2016 and Xbox One sales were at 102,197 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 271,341 (114.8%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 5,303 units (-3.7%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 33,498 units (-13.0). The PlayStation 4 is up by 4,193 units (190.0%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are up by over 77,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by nearly 43,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by nearly 98,000 units. It should be noted July is a four week month, while June was a five week month.

2023 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 3.11 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 2.07 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.89 million units.

Switch Best-Seller as Lifetime Sales Top 30M - Japan Hardware Estimates for July 2023

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in Japan with 300,918 units sold for July 2023, according to VGChartz estimates. The Nintendo Switch has now sold an estimated 30.12 million units lifetime in Japan.

The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 194,119 units to bring its lifetime sales to 4.05 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 9,475 units to bring its lifetime sales to 9.64 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 4,731 units to bring their lifetime sales to 0.48 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 108,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by over 4,000 units. PS4 sold 86,103 units for the month of July 2016 and Xbox One sales were at 254 units.

Nintendo Switch sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 30,275 units (11.2%). PlayStation 5 sales are up by 118,000 (155.0%) and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 18,125 units (-79.3%). The PlayStation 4 is up 9,421 units (17,446.30%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch sales are down by nearly 186,000 units, the PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 71,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 27,000 units. It should be noted July is a four week month, while June was a five week month.

2023 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch has sold an estimated 2.24 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold 1.62 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.08 million units.

Switch still winning in Japan, but I think PS5 will be the first in America and Europe again.

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in Europe with 507,782 units sold for July 2023, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 12.58 million units lifetime in Europe.

PS5 drawing another impressive ratio compared to XSXS in Europe, a ~3.7:1 for July '23.

What's even more impressive, or at least promising:

Sony's first major price drop for PS5 happened around 28th/29th of July. So I am already wondering how August figures will look like.

Great job, Sony!

But don't they rest too long off of it. I feel like it's time for a big PS5 Showcase or even Playstation Experience, pumping in fresh and promising current-gen air.

Well, we have Spiderman 2 for the rest of the year, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth confirmed for early 2024.

But yeah, a new Showcase would be nice. Demand for PS5 in Europe seems really high, though.

From August 21st, the PS5 will be €475 in France, down from €550.

There are rumour that from August 25th to September 7th, the disc version will be €420 in Spain, down from €550
