Forums - Sales - Gizmondo: Success or Failure?

Gizmodo has good concept. But it's trying to do too many things. Ended up with a huge cost. Along with corrupt Cee Eee Ohh. Do I still need to spell out failure? (doh, I just did)

There are multiple levels of failure. Like, commercial failure for one. Personal failure. Mechanical failure. The gizmodo was a commercial failure. For you, however, it was NOT a personal failure, because you enjoy it or whatever. Usually in a sales forum, people like to talk about commercial failures more than anything though.

A.l.e.x. seriously, the EDIT button, use it! The system is dead, no new games are going to come out for it and its game library stinks! So why should anyone care? If you want homebrew you can do it on any other system. The Gizmondo does not do anything unique that warrants praising a dead system.

Ahh HA! So you can make sense, but choose not to most of the time uh? Anyway,  Mr. alex, I find it kinda wacko that, if I remember correctly, you've had your fair share of doggin Sony's PS3 and at one point I believe you hinted that Sony was in trouble with the PS3 and it could possiblly be a failure... However, you seem to really feel the Gizmondo, that's pretty much known as the mother of all sucky gaming devices and the picuture child for gaming failure, is not a failure at all as most people would believe. Uhmm, very baffling.

Aww. It looks like a.l.e.x. gave up on defending the Gizmondo. Too bad. On a lighter note, I just reached 400 posts.

See, I don't want to ruin his Gizmondo fun by all of us convincing him the Gizmondo was a complete failure...but he insisted on calling it a success, which doesn't make sense.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Most gamers don't even know what it is, it's name also sounds more pathetic then "Wii" first sounded, Gizmondo sounds like and is a joke. I'm sure if you asked the company that made it (that went bankrupt like you said) if the Gizmondo was a failure or not, I'm sure they'll give you the obvious answer. Therefore it is a failure. But I'd still like one :)

Looks like it would have been a cool system, just horrible management, wreckless people spending money wreckless, think how cool it could have been if they would have taken all the millions they were taking form the company.and.get this

Used that money for advertising and marketing!!!! Looks like the company had a crappy partnership.

PS I agree with artofangels......What the hell kind of name is Gizmondo???Maybe 2 years ago we heard of it, but didnt think twice because it didnt have the word game in it, call it Helion Game system or something other than Gizmondo..........I betcha they had a choice on Names Gizmondo, and Whatchamacallit, he crashed his car and called it Gizmondo instead, (head injury)

You know im just teasing, the looked like it had potenti I agree.

Sorry, I don't know how to quote more than one post, in one post.

What does any of this have to do with game sales?

Well, in the original post, in this thread, I talked about the sales of the Gizmondo. I guess that could count.

It is a failure, but it's awesome. None of you have played it. None of you can judge it.

Isn't this already a thread? Listen, Gizmondo cost as much as a 360, only had 35 games and went bankrupt in less than six months after its debut, if that's not a failure I don't know what is. Sure you can buy it cheap now but I can also buy a Dreamcast cheap too, what's your point. So what if it can homebrew, the GP2X is better equipped for it and already have a larger emulation base. The Gizmondo was a fund and dump scheme like the Phantom, it would have never succeeded and sure as hell can't succeed now that its been dead for two years.

Why is everyone still looking at the past? The Gizmondo used to cost as much as the 360! Now it's only about $60. Just because Tiger went bankrupt, doesn't make the Gizmondo bad. They just didn't have enough money to back it up. Sure, it will never succeed, but that doesn't make it bad. For everything it can do, it's awesome. And the GP2X is also a failure, but it's also an awesome console. So many consoles that were failures, are awesome, kind of like the Playstation 3.

Gizmondo is a failure, like many other consoles, when compared to the more superior ones, but that doesn't make them bad... At all...

All consoles are good. Gizmondo is better than Gameboy Advance because it can play all Gameboy Advance games, and do so much more, but the Gameboy Advance was much more of a success.

"All consoles are good"...false.

You act like price isn't an issue. You could show me a handheld with the power of a PS3 right now, but if it's $2000, no way.
Just because Gizmondo can emulate GBA games does not make it inherently better than a GBA. GBAs are small and affordable, and can play multiplayer games even.

Listen. I suggest playing your Gizmondo and enjoying it...you're not going to get most people to admit it's anything but a complete failure.

All consoles are good? True!

Sorry, all consoles are marvels of engineering. Some are better than others, but if you look isolate each one of them, they are all complex pieces of machinery. To say that any of them are bad, even though you lack the knowledge to design one yourself, is wrong.

At the end, it is all on how you view the console, or handheld. A handheld may only appear to be bad, if compared to a more successful one. And handhelds, and consoles, are always getting better in the technical side, but not always better in the popularity side.

All consoles, and handhelds, have stronger sides, and weaker sides, when compared to others. The Gizmondo is a failure in terms of popularity, but not in terms of hardware.

The worst console out there, in terms of power, is the Microvision, because it is the first, so it is understandable. However, nobody criticises it, because for one thing, it predates all other handhelds, it was cheaper, and a lot more popular than the Gizmondo, therefore, it wasn't really a failure, unless you compare it to the Gameboy.

None of you have played the Gizmondo, so I don't understand how you can hate it so much. It's almost as if you want to hate it. It only failed in terms of popularity. That is it. Okay, it wasn't popular. So? It's still a really good handheld. All of you have your opinions, but if you never played the stupid thing, then you don't have an opinion about it, all you have is assuptions.
