Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 26, 2023 (Jun 19 - Jun 25)

Aren't those bad numbers for a FF game in Jqpan? It seems not even FF can do anything about PS5's anemic japan SW sales.

Huge HW numbers for PS5 thanks to the FF launch though. But Switch was like "nah, even when your biggest game yet launches you ain't getting close lol"

Switch, after a fairly weak first few months of the year, is having a straight up resurgence this Spring and now into the start of summer. Switch just casually doing over 100k in a random week in the middle of the year with nothing significant releasing anywhere near this week and despite by far PS5's biggest game launch yet. Crazy.

Switch definitely looking like it wants to do over 4m in Japan one final time this year. At the halfway point of the year now and it just 58k shy of 2m, and with presumably the second half of the year being the bigger half considering sales will be going very strong into the start of the second half, Mario Wonder coming out in the Fall, and of course holiday sales, it's real hard to imagine Switch not passing 4m this year, whereas at the early in the year if was looking like it would only manage 3.7m or something around that.

Yikes worse than I thought. Even with digital, I doubt it's above a million in Japan. I saw an interview about a hiring manager that works at a Japanese gaming company. It was about how they would question what kind of games younger job applicants plays, they usually mention mobiles games and nintendo games like Zelda and Pokemon. When the manager asks if they've played a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest they would either shake their heads or respond "not my generation". There's no doubt Final Fantasy doesn't have its former glory in Japan and the people that still buys and enjoys them are from the older generation that grew up with the franchise.

Another respectable week for the XS

Switch is going to overtake the DS quite a bit sooner than expected at that rate

Very respectable numbers for the PS5, but FFXVI flounders

We shall see how its legs are as fans seem to be liking it more than FF15.
