A shame Lost Soul Aside bombed. Out of all the anticipated Chinese/Korean games, it was one of the least impressive to me. The story direction seemed cringe, graphics weird, some animations goofy af, but the worst part to me was the particle effects abundance lol, I'm shocked they didn't dial that down..

I really wanted it to be good, and hope some fans are enjoying the game for what it is. But I don't think the studio is going to survive this...

The real big Chinese single player game to look for is Phantom Blade Zero. I have some gripes with it, but its potential is huge. Expecting high 80's score and 10 million+ sales.

What numbers are we referencing?

Even though this went from a single developer game to a whole team, I think our expectations should still be that it is a relatively low budget project. If it manages to do 1m I'd imagine that'd be a success.

I'd be wary of using recent mega success' like Wu Kong to extrapolate on what success means from China Hero Project. Even Stella Blade was a much bigger success than internally forecast. These games overperformed and it could be that Lost Soul Aside sits closer to expectations of an indie slasher game dressed as a AAA

Did it bomb?

Shame though.

Animation did seem rough at least from the footage I've seen someone play.

It clearly bombed on Steam. In revenues, it opened outside the top 100 and quickly fell outside the top 2000, apparently. Concurrent player numbers looking terrible as well.

Might be doing slightly better on Playstation but that's nothing to write home about. Unless something dramatic happens, I doubt the game is gonna sell close to 500k, let alone a million. I'd hope to be wrong but it feels like it'll be among Sony's worst performing non-handheld games of all time.

Still, I respect the attempt and hope failures like this won't stop Sony from publishing and funding similar projects in the future. For every Concord or Lost Soul Aside, there is Helldivers 2 or Stellar Blade. So it's a net positive. At least this didn't cost a fortune like the disaster that is Concord.

Around the Network

Sony's next event is rumored to have Wolverine, God of War 2.5D, Intergalactic and Marathon.

That would legitimately strengthen the State of Play branding similar to a Nintendo Direct.

Very interested to see anything about Intergalactic

Blurgh.

Gonna need a lot of convincing for God of War 2.5.

Give me Spartan collection dammit!

Interested in Wolverine though.

Well if you are interested in the Greek saga then you have 2 reasons to buy this game lol.

1. The game is supposedly to be about Greek Kratos.

2. If people show interest in Greek Kratos the easy way to give them more is remastering what's already done.

All of those games make sense. Wolverine HAS TO show this year in one way or another if it's going to release next year, the GOW project is a small game, Marathon will release in the first quarter of 2026 or so they say. Probably Intergalactic is the one that I wouldn't expect, I want to watch more obviously but I expect for them to show it in 2026, if that game releases next year that would be too crazy.

Those 4 games + SAROS (that I want for it to be the star of the show)+ Tokon (they have to show a healthy bunch of characters after not showing anything at EVO). If they want they could call it a Showcase, right? Reading the list of Showcases they had one with only 3 PS games in September of 2020 (The other Showcases had 5,6 and 9).

And if one of them has to slip into TGA I sure hope is Wolverine. Keep Intergalactic in the home shows and show me 5+ minutes of pure SAROS gameplay.

So it looks like Sony is looking for a new game director to join Bend for a game that is currently in development but ... the guy needs experience with multiplayer games.

https://careers.playstation.com/creative-director/job/5610784004

Two months ago someone noted in the likedIn of an ex Bend dev the person specified involvement in "Multiple Cancelled/Unannounced Projects" meaning the possibility of Bend working in more than one project when their thing was cancelled and it looks like that was true, they haven't escaped from the service hell just yet.

Same, bro.

I love Playstation, but they GOTTA learn to stop chasing the trends. Their strength has been and will likely always be strong singleplayer games first and foremost. With a sprinkle of a few multiplayer games like Helldivers here and there, or a dash of multiplayer add-ons to their existing games.

Seriously, how many copies does the LAst of Us or Uncharted sell? the new God of War games? Horizon is a new IP and the first one sold in excess of 20 million units. didn't Ghost of Tsushima do really well, too?

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

Sony's top AAA game revenue: $1 billion~
Mario Kart 8: $3.5 billion+
GTA5: $9 billion+

Fate Grand Order: $8 billion+
Genshin Impact: $10 billion~ and counting (may exceed $15 billion lifetime)
Fortnite: $40 billion~ and counting ($100 billion possible?)

The above is why Sony is so desperate to find their live service golden goose/geese lol. I'm not against that mind you, but quit assigning your single-player studios for the job.
