Still wondering when Sony will announce the discontinuation of PS4. It could've been discontinued in 2023 or 2024.

Considering the PS5 only a couple months ago finally had a higher active playerbase than the PS4 after over 4 years of the PS5 being on the market, I wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 still has another year left in the tank of production.

PS4 would surpass the PS2 in that regard though of longest running produced console. I believe the PS2 was manufactured for 13 years.

Famicom and Super Famicom were apparently discontinued in Japan in 2003, but maybe they stopped production around 1999-2000 and sold a few thousand units until 2003.

PS4 isn't even reported by Sony or VGChartz in hardware sales anymore, and I doubt it's cracking 1,000 or more a week anymore. It's probably around 300-600 units a week globally. PS4 does continue to get games, you can still buy DualShock 4 and some other things. Plus, plenty of people are playing PS4 games even still on PS4 hardware itself.

Not even a 1% chance PS4 will still be in production once PS6 is ready to launch, but I'm sure you and others agree with that.

Apparently the Sega Master System is still being produced in Brazil, so that'd hold the overall record at 36 years.

Longest running PS console would still be pretty great.

Kinda, but yes.

They do not sell the OG Master System models here since long ago, but they always have a version in production and for sale available, though those models use emulation and don't accept the carts.

You can still buy a brand new official Master System here to this day, but it's not what some might be thinking.

Edit: to add some info, the last model of the Master System that Tectoy (Sega's official local partner here) produced with a cartridge slot was in 2005, in 2006 they removed it but it still used the same chip to play the game collection it came with.

Since 2007 it uses emulation, and in 2008 they changed their Master System III Compact (Master System II in the USA) carcass model they used since 1992 for the new one they still use today. They finally rebranded it in 2009 to be called Master System Evolution, and the 2011 recolor from black to Sonic's blue is still the one they sell here to this day, funny that "new" model is already over 15 years old itself as well.

Grabbed Epic Mickey on the recent summer sale.

I'm psyched to finally play this game. It's one of the few games that I was excited for back in the day, but because of different circumstances, I never got the chance to when it originally released.

Sony needs a Playstation showcase, hopefully they have one in September.

Modern ones are made by Tectoy and loaded with roms with the Master System branding.

I think that if they want to keep announcing/showing games one year before the release (with their obvious exceptions like Intergalactic) I would bet on 2026 based in the development cycles of Guerrilla, Insomniac (the Ratchet team) and Polyphony. Media Molecule open contract positions said/say the contract ends in January of 2027 which suggests a late 2026 or early 2027 release and of course other studios that have a good time with their projects like Naughty Dog, Firesprite and LFG.

For the rest of the year Tokon and SAROS will be in September's show (SAROS the main focus), maybe Fairgames also in the September show and Wolverine for the game awards. Wolverine is mostly wishful thinking lol but the way I see it if that game is going to release in 2026 doesn't matter if it's August or November they have to show it before this year ends.

They were always made by Tectoy here, not only the "modern" Evolution model.
