How good is it on console?
I haven't been playing a lot lately, but I might buy it just because.

I personally haven't played it on console because that just sounds like heresy to me BUT, I have played it with a controller since the PC version did receive controller support when the game was ported to console, and it honestly feels REALLY good! The menus are split up in a wheel that distinctly separates groups, and gathering is automated. You just set villagers to gather a certain resource and they'll automatically go to the nearest source.
Naturally takes some getting used to, especially if you're a series veteran, but I'd say I had it pretty mastered after about an hour, if that. If you turn out to not like the control scheme though on controller and prefer to micromanage, mouse and keyboard is supported on console.
I've never heard of any performance issues on console either.

Also worth noting that 3 out of the 7 expansions that have released for Age of Empires 2 are now bundled with the base game, which did increase the base cost from $20 to $35 lol.
Almost forgot to mention, all the civilizations from Age of Empires 1 were ported to Age of Empires 2 via an expansion called Return of Rome, which is not one of the bundled expansions in the base game. Closest you'll get to the first game being ported as development was halted a long time ago. I think they only keep the servers up at this point lol. So the Return of Rome expansion was their way of killing off the first game.

3 Xbox ports announced in one week, it's happening fast now. It's going to be hard for some people to get out of the PS Vs Xbox mentality. Xbox are a third party partner to PS now, not competition.

Definitely. Although FH5 and Age of Empires were leaked months ago. But I do expect Xbox to announce a LOT of ports after the Switch 2 Direct as well.

Just to show the longevity that Age of Empires 2 has had, in over 5 years since the Definitive Edition launched, it's never once dipped below 10,000 concurrent players on Steam.
Hell, for nearly 20 years prior to the launch of the DE, AoE 2 always had a constant lively community.
Once the game has got you, you're hooked lol.

It’s a new era. Hopefully it means PS gets Sunset Overdrive finally! Easily my favourite Insomniac game behind Resistance 3.

AoE 2 is one hell of a great game, fantastic indeed.
I am still holding out for a Lost Odyssey/Blue Dragon port to PS. It's easy money for MS.

Sunset Overdrive is property of Sony but by contract any sequel, port or remaster has to be published by MS. Still, Insomniac or Sony would need to put the work of porting the game and give almost all the money to MS. Very unlikely.
Realistically the only way to release Sunset on PS is either if Sony pays compensations to end the contract or MS ends the contract for free.
