Rumor is Sony is in talks to buy Kadakawa. A media company that owns anime/manga and game studios like Fromsoft. So yay more monopoly.

Hmm. What other noteworthy studios/IP's does Kadokawa own?

Spike Chunsoft and Aquire. Acquire did Octopath and most recently the new Mario and Luigi game. Aquire developed the original Tenchu games as well. Not to mention Fromsoft but they also own a ton of anime/manga. Sony already owns Crunchyroll and Funimation so this would make them a monopoly.

Spike Chunsoft also makes the Mystery Dungeon games, either with crossovers like the long-running Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series or with its own, and frankly great, IP, Shiren.

They also do VNs and puzzle games like Danganronpa, the Zero Escape games and that recent Detective one.

Kadokawa makes a lot of sense for Sony from a business perspective, this goes way beyond FromSoftware.

Buyouts and whatnot aside, man I'd love to see Tenchu revived and returned to glory. One of my original favorite IP's. Sekiro's great, but it would have been cool to see Miyazaki stay the course and bring it back.

Kadokawa? They are massive.

Does Sony really have that kind of money laying around?

I agree with Leynos that on the anime front Sony would become basically a monopoly, if this is real maybe they can't touch the anime portion of it and there is talks to sell that to another company?

They do. It could even be cheaper than Bungie, actually, depending on the premium (which probably won't be very high since Kadokawa is seemingly looking for a buyer?).

Not that Sony even needs to, there are many ways these acquisitions usually go, like loans or shares.

Bamco would need to go through Sony if Kadokawa gets bought by them since a lot of the games that Bamco have were developed by Spike Chunsoft.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero for an example is made by Spike Chunsoft.

I rather them fund smaller start up developers like Shift up or Game science those delivered much more to the core PS fanbase for much smaller investment. If they really want to acquire why not buy the final fantasy IP or kojima instead they'll get much more out of it than spending another billion dollar for a huge publisher only to keep them multiplatform anyway like bungie to recoup the buy out. complete waste.

Square would never sell the IP, they would have to buy the whole company to get FF.

There was talks about Sony potentially buying Square Enix some years ago but it's clearly no happening, as Square keeps saying they want to spread all titles multiplatform.
