"I work at a brick plant in Oklahoma that basically never shuts down short of a 08 housing crash scenario because we’re one of the most efficient plants in the country combined with our proximity to Texas housing market. About 11am on Wednesday the managers stopped production mid day and called us to a meeting where they announced that the kiln would be shut down immediately and everyone laid off until further notice. Production workers weren’t even allowed to finish out the day. I’ve been there since 02 and I’ve never seen this happen even when the 08 crash hit. We shut down then, but it was with notice of when we’ll close the plant and they even kept key ppl on from each dept. This time everyone gone except 8 of us maintenance guys to help shut down the kiln etc."
