Trump directed staff to announce 2-week window to conceal Iran attack plans, sources say
President Donald Trump had been leaning heavily toward taking US military action in Iran for several days when he issued a directive to his senior aides: Tell the press he would make a decision on whether to act within two weeks, as a way to obscure his true thinking.
The president had been frustrated by coverage that suggested he had made a final decision on striking Iranian nuclear sites and he thought a two-week timeline could throw off the Iranians and conceal his plans, according to several sources familiar with what happened.
Trump made the call to issue the statement Thursday as he was set to have lunch with his former adviser Steve Bannon, who had been publicly skeptical of US involvement. Shortly after, his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, walked into the White House briefing room and followed the president’s orders, signaling to the world that Trump’s mind wasn’t made up yet.
While the final call came Saturday as bombers were already in the air, those around Trump believed his mind had been largely made up for days regarding taking action in Iran. Trump had been briefed on attack plans already and was meeting with his senior national security aides in person on a daily basis, in addition to having multiple phone calls throughout the day.
All that achieved was sinking European negotiations in Geneva. Iran already moved everything valuable out of the way.
Trump didn't achieve anything, unless sinking NPT and putting US troops (and civilians) in danger was the goal.
Meantime, there are new details about the US operation. US media reporting that the president was in control, not the Pentagon, with a US official saying that this strike was not a pentagon operation. It was a Donald Trump operation. He chose the plans. He chose the day.
Now, given there has been the strike by the United States, there is now concern about retaliation by Iran, specifically given the fact that there are 40,000 troops based in the region, and there are also concerns about attacks here in the US, perhaps on infrastructure, like cyber attacks on the banking system or even on energy grids.
That is why many on Capitol Hill are now demanding an intelligence briefing, something they say should have happened prior to the president taking action.

Iran would be wise not to open up another front with US That doesn't mean US troops in the ME are now not in danger of retaliation by the Houthis and armed factions in Iraq etc. |
I do think the strategic play would be to ignore America for now, if it is true that Iran already emptied the facilities then all they've really lost is 3 empty facilities and even then, they're being reported as "severely damaged" instead of "destroyed" so is it really worth it to give America the excuse it desperately wants to bring them into the war, all over 3 mostly empty facilities being damaged?
Americans don't have the stomach for another long term war, but the moment Iran directly bombs a US military base, they'll be Americans foaming at the mouth to destroy Iran, the US media is already justifying these recent strikes, if Iran struck a US base then the media would be jerking off at the thought of war. But if Iran just ignores America and continues bombing Israel it puts Trump in an awkward spot, being the cuck to Israel that he is, it will make him more desperate to come up with some bullshit justification for a full scale bombing campaign on Iran which Americans won't support. The play should be to try to turn Americans anger against Trump.

Bombs a country under nonsense justification and then begs China for help in convincing them to not retaliate...Pathetic.

Europe rushing to help America destroy yet another Middle-Eastern country and then suffering all the consequences while Americans fly back home across the Atlantic is Europe's entire recent history. I can't think of a single successful American led regime change in the Middle-East, ironically one of the most successful in recent history happened in Syria, which had nothing to do with America, and was done by a group that America considered an enemy until they succeeded, Israel still trying to steal land from them though.
It would be the most pathetic thing ever from Europe, especially since Trump-Admin has essentially told us to piss off in regards to Putin and decided to look the other way as Russia threatens the whole of Europe and massacres hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, not just look the other way, the Trump admin has actively tried to help Russia multiple times since coming into power, and Europe is going to rush to America's defence again despite all of this when we should be telling America to fuck off and protecting our own land.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi noted that:
Trump's message to the world: if you have nukes like North Korea I'll trade love letters with you, if you don't I'll pull out of agreements you're keeping and bomb you during diplomacy. Just devastating to non-proliferation.

Trump has given Europe the middle finger even more than Bush did so European nations would be extra stupid to help Trump with Iran.

US and Israel the best countries on Earth? I'm pretty uncomfortable calling even the countries I view the most highly the best on Earth. But US and Israel who commit constant war crimes? You've gotta be kidding me.

The BBC understands that there is "a credible threat" to the US-run Coalition Air Operations Centre at Al-Udaid in Qatar. The country has temporarily closed its airspace and I've been told the airbase is at a state of high readiness. The threat is believed to come from a potential Iranian missile attack.
Al-Udaid is a massive base outside the Qatari capital Doha and is home to US Centcom's headquarters for all its air operations in the Middle East, where British military personnel also serve on rotation.
