Effects of Trumps tariffs and diplomacy: A Frenchman now developed an app which scans products to know the country of origin of the products and warns if the products is Made in the USA:

I tested the app (which is called détrumpez-vous, literally detrumpify yourself and a pun on détrompez-vous, which means don't worry) and it shows not only where the brand comes from, but also it's parent company. Oh, and it flags and has a counter that goes up for every American product you scan, so basically the lower your score, the better.

That's useful. My supermarket is pretty good at labeling Canadian products, not so much for the rest.

Where it says product of Chile on the marker, says product of USA on the packaging...
But also says product of USA on some things and then on the packaging it's from Mexico.

And have to be careful cause it can say packaged / processed in Quebec, CA, but contains produce from USA.

An app is a lot faster than reading the fine print on all the products!
However fresh produce remains a problem, got to trust what it says on the marker.

Buying local is good for the environment as well!

I found Trump's inspiration. Professor Chaos!

He convinces stupid people he's playing 4D chess.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Meanwhile, he's actually playing Chutes 'n' Ladders. And intentionally landing on the chutes.

(For those of you outside of the U.S., the U.S. version has pictures of kids suffering the natural consequences of screwing things up on the chutes. Trump seems to think these screw-ups are a good thing.)

U.S. Orders Intelligence Agencies to Step Up Spying on Greenland

"Several high-ranking officials under Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard issued a "collection emphasis message" to intelligence-agency heads last week. They were directed to learn more about Greenland's independence movement and attitudes on American resource extraction on the island.

The classified message asked agencies, whose tools include surveillance satellites, communications intercepts and spies on the ground, to identify people in Greenland and Denmark who support U.S. objectives for the island.

The directive is one of the first concrete steps Trump's administration has taken toward fulfilling the president's often-stated desire to acquire Greenland."

"

A collection-emphasis message helps set intelligence-agency priorities, directing resources and attention to high-interest targets. The Greenland order, which went to agencies including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, underscores the administration's apparent commitment to seeking control of the self-governing island. It forms part of the Kingdom of Denmark, a North Atlantic Treaty Organization member and a decadeslong ally.

James Hewitt, a National Security Council spokesman, said the White House doesn't comment on intelligence matters, but added: "The president has been very clear that the U.S. is concerned about the security of Greenland and the Arctic"

Exclusive: US, Israel discuss possible US-led administration for Gaza, sources say

"The United States and Israel have discussed the possibility of Washington leading a temporary post-war administration of Gaza, according to five people familiar with the matter.

The "high-level" consultations have centered around a transitional government headed by a U.S. official that would oversee Gaza until it had been demilitarized and stabilized, and a viable Palestinian administration had emerged, the sources said."

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of the Archdiocese of Chicago has just been elected pope, the first from the USA. He will take the name Leo XIV.

So it looks like Catholicdom is about to be under Trump's control now, unless Leo turns out to be another Francis. I hope the Church picked him because his work as a missionary is counter to Trump's policies.

EDIT: Listening to his speech. I'm hopeful he will be another Francis and not a right-wing American Catholic in the stripe of Timothy Dolan or Raymond Burke.

I'm kind of shocked. I always thought the Catholic Church would never elect an American as a pope, due to the concerns that the church could be made into an organ of the American empire. Maybe they elected him in hopes that as an American, he could tame some of Trump's worst excesses.

He was appointed by Pope Francis. He is also a Peruvian national. Described as a "Moderate" and closer to Francis on some social issues such as advocating for migrants and the poor, however he has some outdated and shit views on women, such as opposing ordaining women as deacons and in 2012 had some shitty views on LGBTQ+

"He lamented that Western news media and popular culture fostered "sympathy for beliefs and practices that are at odds with the gospel." He cited the "homosexual lifestyle" and "alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children." As bishop in Chiclayo, a city in northwestern Peru, he opposed a government plan to add teachings on gender in schools. "The promotion of gender ideology is confusing, because it seeks to create genders that don't exist," he told local news media.

He also handled sexual abuse against minors in the Church really fucking shit too.

"In 2000, Prevost allowed Father James Ray, an Augustinian priest, to reside at St. John Stone Friary in Chicago. Ray had been suspended from public ministry since 1991 due to credible accusations of sexual abuse of minors. Although the priory was close to a Catholic elementary school, Prevost did not notify the school administration about Ray"

So seems like if his views haven't changed, it's a homophobic, paedophile protector, who is also pro-immigration and tries to help the poor, Lol. Seems like your average Pope Tbh. Lets hope his outdated views on homosexuality have changed for the better. He does seem moderate from what I've read, well, for a Catholic at least.

He holds dual U.S.-Peruvian citizenship from his days as a missionary. He was born in Chicago.

He could be the compromise Pope, a plain old boring moderate, it doesn't seem there's much excitement about him but not much outright anger either. Maybe they picked an American though to combat some of the American Catholicism bullshit happening lately. The biggest thing for me is if his homophobic views and misogynist views have changed.

Looks like the new Holy Father isn't a fan of JD Vance.

This ain't a one-off either. This Pope does not seem to like JD Vance.

The new Pope didn't tweet once in 2024. In 2025, he's posted 5 times, in which he:

- Criticized JD Vance's views on Catholicism and Jesus
- Posted an article opposing Trump's immigration policies
- Retweeted twice about the Pope's health
- Retweeted a criticism of Trump & Bukele's laughter at KAG.
