Remember a few months ago when Democrats passed over AOC as the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee in favour of a 75 year old with oesophageal cancer? Can you guess what happened next? He has stepped down 4 months later due to health complications, what a shocking turn of events, surely the old folk in the Democrats will now learn to actually pass the torch down? Instead of desperately trying to cling onto power and treating the younger Democrats like shit?

Nope!

House Democrats' Old Guard Prepares To Fight The Youth Revolt

Driving the news: Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), 70, told Axios he plans to run for the role and is clear-eyed about the outside pressure bearing down on his colleagues to choose a younger lawmaker.

  • "The base is responding to social media, so they're pushing the people that they see on social media," he said. "I get that." But, Lynch argued, "there is a job to be done — and as an attorney, this is an investigations committee, and so it's serious business. It's not going to be run in the press."

What they're saying: Some veteran lawmakers are already lining up behind Lynch, who is third in seniority on the panel after Connolly and 87-year-old Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.).

  • "I have a preference for seniority, assuming ability, and I think Lynch is surely able," said Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the former House majority leader.
  • Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) pointed to Connolly endorsing Lynch to replace him: "It's going to be hard for me and probably many others to do anything contrary to the current ranking member."

Between the lines: Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), 44, is expected to throw her hat in the ring.

  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), 35, who lost the role to Connolly last December and subsequently left Oversight, is mulling a bid to return to the panel as ranking member.
  • Both lawmakers have large social media followings and are considered superstars by the Democrats' liberal base.

The bottom line: Cleaver said of younger Democrats trying to push out older ones, "I think sometimes they take it too far."

  • "We have a large number of young people in the Democratic caucus, and I would challenge anybody ... [to] stand toe-to-toe with Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Jim Clyburn, Steny Hoyer, all in their mid or above mid-80s," he said.

House Democrats' Old Guard Prepares To Fight The Youth Revolt

These old Democrats desperate to cling onto power are absolutely ruining the Democrat Party, they hate the younger Democrats so much that they'd rather Weekend at Bernie's each other than actually pass the torch, they're so power hungry it's unreal. The party is too full of useless and weak people like Chuck Schumer who are more concerned about themselves than the country and have zero fight.

This is absolutely fucking embarrassing to say out loud and yes I believe AOC and Crockett could easily stand toe to toe with them. Equally as embarrassing to say when you've just lost an election in part because your candidate was fucking ancient and publicly declining but it took too late to finally say it's time for him to step down which fucked the Democrats chances of picking a proper replacement.

Triple embarrassing when you've just elected an old dude who just had to step down 4 months later due to health complications! I'm sorry but this dude is probably on his final stages of life and is quite literally dying and Cleaver is all "Yeah well, they may be old and ancient and on deaths doors and won't be able to do the job to its full ability but at least they could stand toe to toe with young Democrats!"

This will be the Democrats soon (except imagine the woman is also 80 years old).

(If you've seen the movie you'll know, Lol).

Trump in 2024: Stock Market Thriving Because ‘They Think I’m Going to be Elected’

The U.S. economy contracted in the first three months of 2025 on an import surge at the start of President Donald Trump's second term in office as he wages a potentially costly trade war. Gross domestic product, a sum of all the goods and services produced from January through March, fell at a 0.3% annualized pace, according to a Commerce Department report Wednesday adjusted for seasonal factors and inflation. This was the first quarter of negative growth since Q1 of 2022.

Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for a gain of 0.4% after GDP rose by 2.4% in the fourth quarter of 2024. However, over the past day or so some Wall Street economists changed their outlook to negative growth, largely due to an unexpected rise in imports as companies and consumers sought to get ahead of the Trump tariffs implemented in early April.

U.S. Economy Shrank 0.3% in The First Quarter as Trump Policy Uncertainty Weighed on Businesses

Companies slowed hiring sharply in April as they braced against potential impacts from President Donald Trump's tariffs against U.S. trading partners, ADP reported Wednesday. Private sector payrolls rose by just 62,000 for the month, the smallest gain since July 2024, amid heightened uncertainty over the degree of the tariffs and the impact they would have on hiring plans and broader economic conditions.

The total marked a deceleration from the downwardly revised gain of 147,000 in Marchand missed the Dow Jones consensus estimate for an increase of 120,000.

Palestinian student activist Mohsen Mahdawi freed from US detention

A Palestinian student at Columbia University in New York City who led protests against Israel’s war on Gaza at the institution last year has been freed after a judge ordered his release.

Local media reports showed a crowd cheering as Mohsen Mahdawi left a federal courthouse in Burlington, Vermont. Wearing a black-and-white keffiyeh over his shoulders, he led a chant of “the people, united, will never be defeated”.

Mahdawi was arrested during a citizenship interview earlier this month. He is one of several pro-Palestinian student activists who have been rounded up in the Trump administration’s crackdown on support for Palestinian rights in the US.

The government argued Mahdawi – a legal US permanent resident – could be deported because Secretary of State Marco Rubio determined his presence and activities “would have serious adverse foreign policy consequences and would compromise a compelling US foreign policy interest”.

Mahdawi’s lawyers said he was detained in retaliation for his speech advocating for Palestinian human rights.

Small victory, still a long battle ahead.

Mahdawi targeted for Palestine protest activities

Mohsen Mahdawi is now free on bail. He’s still facing further proceedings, but for now, the judge has ruled he is not a flight risk. In other words, he’s not a danger to the public. But he will come back to court.

Mahdawi is a Palestinian from the West Bank and is studying at Columbia University. Secretary of State Rubio wrote in a memo that the reason Mahdawi, as a permanent US resident, was being subjected to expulsion … is because of his protest activities.

Rubio said his protest actions undermine the Middle East peace process for the US because it foments and reinforces anti-Semitic activity. This is something that Mahdawi vehemently denies.

When it comes to green-card holders, they don’t have the same rights in the United States as a US citizen, and they can be denaturalised. That is not new in the US, but what is new is that now people are being targeted because of their protest activities.

I disagree with this statement because it doesn't matter to Trump if it was or was not Photoshopped he would not have cared as long as he could make that statement in the interview.  Trump has never cared about the truth as we have seen on multiple occasions and as far as he is concerned, his followers only need to listen to him and forget if its the truth or not.
