sure, there are 150 PS3 games listed on metacritic, and 187 on the wii.

not much of a difference, but wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more low scoring games.

To paraphrase a post of mine from five minutes ago:

The average quality of games on a system only matters if you plan to play (a) ALL of the games on that system, or (b) a COMPLETELY RANDOM SAMPLE of games on that system.

If you plan to choose the games you play with some eye toward professional reviews, personal recommendations, etc. (rather than at random), then the AVERAGE game quality doesn't matter AT ALL... as long as there are enough good games on the system (in terms of absolute number, not ratio) to keep you busy.

These numbers are kind of misleading. The only real fair comparison would be averaging the % for games that shipped on all 3 systems. Games on Wii are way different then most games on 360 and PS3. Then, when you talk 360 vs PS3 there has been a lot of very different games shipped for both systems so it is not an apples to apples comparison.

Shovelware will lower your review average, thats not a news flash. Or did you not realize how much shovelware comes out for the Wii?

Wii, PS3, XBox360 are all a part of the current gen.

I dont know when people will stop using "next gen", I still do this myself occasionally. Where the difference in the current generation of systems lies is in the fact they are pursuing different markets. PS3 vs XBox in the same market, the $250 low def Wii is in a seperate market.

HD vs SDTV, Kid focused vs Core Gamer focused, $250 vs $500

if it helps think of it as a Nissan Altima vs Infiniti G35, yeah they are both cars for sale but one is going after a different market then the other.

If people care about shovelware, why dont you mention AAA titles. Best games so far are on the Wii. Worst games so far are also on the Wii. That shows how diverse and appealing the Wii is.

Sometimes shovelware is shovelware in the eyes of the reviewer, someone playing that game could enjoy it more than an AAA title cause it can be more appealing to him. I agree theres crap also, but theres games that people consider shovelware cause its too "casual" or "kiddy".

The system that sells the most usually has the lowest average because it has the most games. This includes the crappy ones because crappy games sell on consoles that sell well.

Yeah MS Fans use raw numbers that can't be manipulated. PS3 fans use averages, the most unmanipulated and concrete values of all summary data! (SARCASM). Obviously somebody hasn't heard of freak values distorting averages?

It's quite interesting that you note that the additional year as providing more AAA titles for the 360 then PS3, yet you don't say that in that same year alot more shovelware came out, hmmmmm, employee of the month at Sony Defense Force? Btw, Sony family sold 731,000 in USA in March and the nintendo WII "only" sold 721,000.. damnnnn sony must be making a killing, oh wait "family" refers to 3 consoles and the nintendo wii is just 1?

According to the logic of this thread:

"Hey I can play 10 GREAT GAMES (90%+) on my 360"

 "Oh yeah? well the average games is better on the PS3!"

"How many great games are on the ps3?" 

"Um.. 3.. but at least our average is better!"

No surprise the Wii gets an awful amount of shovelware. On the other hand as sad as it is thats one sign of success. The PS2 also had lots and lots of bad games. If you have a big userbase and low development costs this will happen. And its not a bad thing.

It gets bad when you do not have an equal number of great titles. And if you do not like bright colors the selection is a bit weak.
