Nintendo always massively overship for the October to December quarter in Japan because they want shipments available for the huge early January sales. for example:

Famitsu's FYQ3 21/22 sales were 1.71 million versus 2.29 million shipped and Famitsu's FYQ4 21/22 were 1.35 million versus only 870k shipped.
