I wonder if we're going to see some funky shit with Clockwork Revolution's marketing considering how meme-heavy their socials are and the whole time "changing the timeline" stuff in the game itself. I really don't have a clue when this will release, it kind of feels weird that the showcase had a very obvious focus on games releasing in 2025 and then there's Clockwork Revolution "in due time" Lol. I know Clockwork looked great but it's weird it was the ONLY non-2025 1st party shown.

Maybe it's closer than we think?

Ride The Chariot | ‘25 Completion

Oh I got mixed up, Lee Petty wasn't the lead of Kiln, it was Derek Brand. So Kiln likely still exists and is in development, it is the multiplayer, team-based brawler and Double Fine has multiple teams so I could see Kiln releasing in 2026, I believe it was already leaked as being in development and was recently trademarked. Tim Schaffer is working on something as well that he is keeping secret from most employees.

So it sounds like Double Fine is currently...

  • Lee Petty - Keeper
  • Derek Brand - Kiln
  • Tim Schaffer - Secret Project

Kiln and Keeper being the closest to release.

I imagine Developer Direct 26 will be a bit different next year with GTA 6 right around the corner, Developer Direct usually focuses on things releasing in the 1st half but I could see 26 Developer Direct having a more even mix of 1st half/2nd half. Developer Direct in 2025 had Ninja Gaiden IV which did release in the 2nd half but the other 4 were all 1st half titles.

I expect Xbox's 1st half in 26 to be lighter than in 25 due to GTA 6, I think maybe 2 titles. State of Decay 3 and Kiln? Clockwork Revolution and Kiln? I think for maximum hype in celebration of the 25th anniversary, all of the core four (Halo, Gears, Fable and Forza) will be in the 2nd half, one after another until the eventual culmination to November 15th and the release of Halo CE Remake.

Ideally they'd be one release per month (August, September, October and November).

I don't think Forza Horizon 6 and Fable will be in the Developer Direct because I think we'll now get an Playground Games Direct after the June showcase like we just got an Obsidian Direct which had two games in it (The Outer Worlds 2 and Grounded), I think after the June showcase we'll have a PG Direct with Fable and Forza Horizon 6.

So Developer Direct 26 could be something like Kiln (Shadow Drop), State of Decay 3, a 3rd Party. Maybe Clockwork Revolution if it is releasing sooner than expected. Maybe Gears E-Day as the 2nd half title like Ninja Gaiden IV. I also think Gears E-Day will be one of the closest to release given all the rumours that it was releasing in 2025 but maybe it suffered a small delay and then they just decided to punt it even further back due to GTA 6 and for maximum engagement for the 25th anniversary celebration.

Play Anywhere is awesome, buy once and have it on multiple platforms? Great.

Like I said as well, the biggest issue with the future Xbox/PC hybrid is not tech, it is licenses, it is that a license to play on Xbox doesn't give you a license to play on PC, but Play Anywhere does. So if Xbox can get a significant chunk of the average gamers library to be Play Anywhere before they make this switch to Xbox/PC hybrid then that would be amazing. So their focus from now on should absolutely be Play Anywhere until the switch happens, I imagine some sort of Xbox 360/Xbox One emulation will come to Windows PC as well in the future for those that aren't native.

Honestly I think Play Anywhere could go a long way to alleviating peoples concerns about the future of Xbox hardware too because either way their library would be safe, whether Xbox still made hardware or not, it would still be accessible via PC, Handheld, etc. The Xbox ecosystem they love would still be available. Their profiles, achievements, the UI, their library, etc.

I think they will probably need to try to aim for at least like 70-80% of the average gamers library being Play Anywhere before the switch to this Xbox/PC hybrid so that when the switch does happen people won't need to rebuy large parts of their library because this Xbox/PC hybrid will have a separate license agreement with publishers than the Xbox currently does as it will likely be running a Windows hybrid with an Xbox UI/OS and Microsoft is probably aiming to eventually merge the Windows Store and Xbox Store into one.

It's all about convincing publishers to alter their license agreements, nothing that money can't fix, Lol.

Can tell that you're a Steam user, I like this priority by discount system

Nothing that you buy at full price?

All this fanfare over Square Enix bringing FFVIIR & FFXVI, yet no demands for a Forspoken port? smh

I don't see that one happening, the game sold so little on PS5 and PC that an Xbox port would probably just be a waste of development resources for Square. The PC version is estimated to have sold between 161k and 357k by the 4 third party trackers that SteamDB uses, not alot for a AAA after 2.4 years on the market, especially that low end estimate. And PC was a launch platform, late ports almost always sell less than launch platforms.

The Xbox Ally seems to be getting a lot of positive impressions, I'm a bit surprised, Lol, I didn't expect it to be bad or anything but I thought it would be a fairly "meh" response, especially since we heard rumours that Xbox's UI stuff was way off but it seems like there are some genuinely good performance gains and the device itself is pretty good.

Also...

I had a play on the new Xbox handheld. They may not sell in huge numbers, but by increasing engagement, they're potentially very lucrative

We'll need to tap this sign a lot for everyone who thinks because this thing doesn't sell 20m+ it's a failure, Lol.

Yeah I'm seeing a LOT of positive impressions from tech youtubers who got to get some hands on that I trust like Retro Game Corps, Dave2D, and ETA Prime. Dave2D in particular had just recently shredded the new Lenovo Legion handheld that came with Windows versus the edition that comes with SteamOS. And deservedly so. The Windows edition cost more, OS being not suitable for handheld, and games ran worse.

With this new version of Windows, they're talking about how performance has been incredibly good up to this point, and even the UI is shockingly smooth that Dave2D has a hard time believing it lol.

Kinda funny that Xbox is finally becoming what Bill Gates originally wanted when he was sold on the Xbox concept......Windows on a game console.

MS should have done this a loooong time ago but they always wanted to put full fat Windows on everything.  Nothing like good competition to align a behemoth like MS into shape because many have stated MS should create a much lighter OS for games and just allow booting into that interface or some type of hotswap but MS management was so hard on trying to push fat windows on everything they couldn't fully understand what they were missing.
