Reviews for Avowed a little lower than expected, was hoping for an 85 but still excited to play. Been my most anticipated MS game since Starfield (excluding BO6).

Graphically it's their best looking game for me.

Nice to see a UE5 game that actually runs well. Hopefully with Epic themselves ironing out some of the engine's issues in recent iterations, this is a taste of things to come for future UE5 games, considering how many AA and AAA devs are now using the engine (seems like about 80% of them are using it now).

No kidding! Typically one of the last things you think of when it comes to Obsidian is a high level of polish lol. Certainly one of the benefits of them having the proper time to make a AAA game.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind
Big shout out to Obsidian for understanding an option to turn off head bob is just as important as camera shake options. I’ll be turning them all off thank you.

So played around 4hrs of Avowed although that includes recreating a character and idle time so id say it’s about 1.5hrs into the actual game. Started on Path of the Damned (the highest difficulty) and it’s definitely a stamina and watch the enemy placement type combat. Being able to fairly quickly swap between sword and shield to wand and grimoire with a button press is nice. It demands patience’s, maybe get a stealth kill off before focusing on the healer, definitely does not reward rushing in (atleast on the highest difficulty) ..
I can definitely feel the Obsidian jank, it’s not close to a Bethesda game in poor performance but there’s parts that do become Immediately noticeable like screen tearing when using the map (and yes I’m using a VRR display) or the first town being fairly laggy. Using the 40fps mode (on Series X) and so far outside of the town it’s been stable.
The games colour pallet does hide over the game really isn’t going for any sort of photo realism, but it looks gorgeous. Can’t say if it’s a game I’ll attempt a 100% on, it took me years to find the energy to 100% PoE2, but I’m enjoying it so far.
