I see, someone already preparing for the "next Xbox game is doomed"... who cares that Starfield should obviously be a much bigger game on Steam, that Starfield didn't release on Battle.net or that Gamepass and especially PC Gamepass grew since then. That all doesn't matter, Steam concurrent players need to be big or Avowed is a failure!

Meh, you can't be like ' starfield did amazing see how many concurrent players awesome and it is on pc gamepass!!!'  but then be annoyed when a game doesn't well and say it doesn't mean anything.

I would say Starfield is a bit of a unique case, Bethesda is a studio in the upper tier of popularity in sales, it didn't need Gamepass to hit big player numbers, which was why it was able to hit 330k peak concurrent on Steam and ultimately sell an estimated 3.5-4.5m copies there so far, in addition to Xbox console sales and Gamepass players.

Obsidian on the other has never been a studio whose games sold all that well. While their licensed games like South Park and Fallout New Vegas sold well, their original IP's have never been massive sellers. Alpha Protocol flopped, causing Sega to have to lower their projections for the fiscal quarter it released in. Tyranny only sold like 1m copies lifetime. Pillars of Eternity sold like 3m lifetime while it's sequel tracked well behind the first game in sales. Only The Outer Worlds has been particularly successful for them, selling over 4m copies in the first 2 years.

Nobody should go in expecting some huge 100k+ peak concurrent players on Steam for Avowed, it'll be lucky if it can match the 41k peak of Pillars of Eternity, the IP it spunoff from, since PC Gamepass and the Battle.net release will surely pull some Steam sales. I think we should be happy if it can top the 21k peak of Pillars of Eternity 2, if it can pull that off while also doing well on Xbox, Gamepass, and Battle.net, I think Xbox will be happy with the sales and greenlight a sequel.

Starfield is just an example, in the past plenty of times steam was mentioned or used in sales/players playing the game, Forza Horizon/Sea of thieves as an example, Starfield was just the biggest example it was post after post about Starfield and Steam sales/players playing.  I also know very well that if Avowed had 250K concurrent players people would be posting about it how great it is...So where is the difference really between discussing something that is low and high? I havn't said anything about concurrent players expectations anyway, all I did was saying the last days that Avowed is number 80 on top selllers...number 60...Reached top 50 and today reaching Number 16... Is it even negative news? Seems rather positive no?

I don't even think G2 was calling you out directly for any recent posts, he was making a general comment about a trend recently with people obsessing over CCU  before a new XGS release, Lol. Of course if Starfield had high CCUs it would be posted about. The point is more than you can't make an assumption something has failed because it hasn't hit a arbitrary CCU number.

Yeah I was making a completely general statement. It's become almost tradition where when there's good Xbox news, it's been immediately followed by dooming and glooming whether on VGC or pretty much all forms of social media.

We're finally getting a game that was announced nearly 5 years ago and from the leaked review to the online creators that have been playing it and trying really hard to keep their mouth shut lol, it sounds like we're in for a treat!

If the game only tops out at 1 million players or even less after the first month on all available platforms combined and the reviews are mid (basically another Redfall) then that's a different story lol. But dooming the game just based on a single platforms performance even if it's doing incredibly well overall, just seems unfair to the developers that are most likely celebrating their games success. And this type of dooming is everywhere, whether on VGC or especially platforms like X where console warriors are just dooming Xbox based on how a first party games performance is on Steam.

I'm planning on doing a couple polls after the games launch to see how much everyone is enjoying the game. Get some consistent positive flow going again especially considering how much we're getting over the next few months!

Speaking of, I wonder if Machine will go back and finish Wolfenstein 3 next, or immediately start on a new Indiana Jones game since this one was fairly successful?

Apparently their next game is a multiplayer title so no, Lol.
