Happy New Year everyone! 2024 saw the launch of my Notepad newsletter and I’ve been blown away with the love and support for it. 2025 is gonna be an even busier year, especially as Microsoft celebrates 50 years, prepares for big Xbox platform changes, and starts to bring Copilot to more devices

2025.
Flexibility is the theme in gaming this year, and it is an opportunity. Players playing what they want, wherever they want, with whom they want.
Challenge is that the games that currently do this best are the live service behemoths.
Getting folks to want to want to play other things is key.

Unfortunately, 2024 was brutal for many people in the industry (as was expected).
There are reasons to believe that some areas could improve this year, but don't expect the tide to raise all the boats.
Nintendo Next and GTA6 are the year's market pillars, but we'll need more than a few surprises.

The market has stratified. The biggest games are the same as the biggest 5 years ago as may be the same as the biggest 5 years from now.
Discovery, encouraging trial, and incentivizing the mass market to play anything else is important to the future health of the entire market.

Going to be a big 'hold on to your butts' kind of year all the way around, really.
Interesting times. I don't care for them.
