I love your positivity, "hey, Microsoft is killing their hardware division but they will still keep making money, yay!"

Let's wait to see how much this will benefit YOU in the long term.

I dont think they'll kill one of their big IPs (Xbox) they own nor will they stop making hardware. (And yes I will be buying the next Xbox)

MS' strongest in software and accessibility of that software. Hoping some way b/c xbox games will be available on their Windows Store (or through Xbox app) on PC in the future.

Not that I agree with your sentiment but I chuckled at you asking how it will benefit Basil because Basil has like every platform released and based on his wishlist that dude must have thousands of games on Steam, Lmao. It won't affect Basil at all, positive or negative, if Xbox hardware ceased to exist (and that's not on a comment on if I think it will or won't) but Basil is far from locked to a single platform.

Damn right!

Console wishlist (Game and DLC)

Steam Wishlist (Game and DLC)

Overall bought (been building up my Xbox library throughout 2024)

That's where you are wrong. One platform disappearing from the market will affect everybody; Regardless if you used to use that platform or not.

How would Xbox ceasing to exist as a hardware affect Steam? (And again, I don't think Xbox will cease to exist as hardware anytime soon but I'll just entertain the hypothetical).

It probably would mean more steam machines making a bid for dedicated hardware.  Than again that might happen no matter MS continue with console hardware or not.

Sorry, I meant more, how would them ceasing to exist negatively affect Steam/a Steam gamer.

The more Rod speaks about Gears 5, the more my opinion on his creative decision making lowers

"Team wasn't "thrilled" when he pitched the idea of the choice"

So not only were the team unhappy with the choice idea, Rod didn't even have a plan for what would happen after, then he left the studio, Lol. He has really put them in a shitty position which they seemingly didn't want to be in, and if you're going to make a multi-choice option, then you have to follow up with that but instead it seems like the plan was to make only one canon, therefore pissing off everyone who picked the other choice. Wow, I feel sorry for The Coalition, Lol. No wonder they're doing a prequel first.

This choice idea was 100% a mistake, Rod forced a creative decision on a team that didn't want it, with no plan on how to follow up on it, then he left the studio, essentially a "here's a complication I created now you clean it up, bye" Lol.

Isn't this a good thing.  So the lead wanted to do something else, the creative team wanted to do something else.  The lead leaves because his ideal isn't in line with the teams ideal.  That then opens up the position to be filled with someone who is in line with the ideal of the team.  The best thing is always that the team is passionate about what they are doing because if not, you will always get sub par results.

Tbf, Rod never had a creative lead role prior to Gears 5. On the original Gears trilogy, he was Director of Production and initially when Coalition was formed, he was Studio Head. So it was honestly weird he was the creative lead at all lol.

But the decision was already made so it's too late, Lol.

It seemingly went like this.

Rod: I want to make a choice ending for Gears 5.

The Rest of Coalition: We don't like that.

*Rod implements it anyway, with no future plan or follow-up*

*Rod leaves the studio*

Leaving the team who didn't like it to figure out what to do now with a decision that has already been implemented.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if this is a major reason why we're getting a prequel instead of Gears 6 first, because the team doesn't know what to do with what Rod left them.

Okay,

1) I was talking more about the consumers side of things
2) I said that everyone would be affected, I didn't say that everyone would be affected negatively only; Of course the other competitors on the market would probably be benefited. Heck, Steam has been growing in the last couple of years, while Xbox presence has been decreasing, so I would argue that Steam is already benefiting from the Xbox exiting the market.

Now, if we are talking about Steam (and Nintendo) gamers, well, in theory they will not be negatively affected that much, but we already saw Nintendo following Sony´s lead and increasing the prices of their games to $70 so.. who´s to say they will not follow Sony again when they decide that it is time to raise the prices again?

Just got through watching a before you buy video on DA: The Veilguard.  Many of the gripes that are a turnoff for most, many of the negatives for others, the lack of this, the lack of that, make this...

Spoiler!
...an absolute purchase for me.  This will be another time sink for me.   I have been in absolute hogheaven for the last 4 years.  My backlog contains over a decade of anticipated bliss.  I'm grateful for the way my fucked up brain was created.
