Those Final Fantasy games will come to Xbox I think. When? idk, but Square seems more open to actually being on Xbox again so I think it's a matter of time.

No it's not, quit lying PhilTeam360.

Xbox is now claiming that the next Xbox (it's now confirmed Series X/S won't be the last) will be the largest generational leap of all-time. I do not understand that strategy. Xbox already has broad support for PC gaming, so why worry about a powerful console that will still fall short of some very powerful gaming PCs? Software and Game Pass will sell Xbox consoles, not big specs.

That was from Sarah bond likely.

Xbox president Sarah Bond teased that Microsoft will deliver “the largest technical leap” with the next-generation Xbox and mentioned:

Now its got people debateing weither this means MS is not sure about new hardware, or if its just the "this holidays" part.

The messageing is bad as always.

You got people going into panic mode again saying things like:

"You’re in denial if you can’t see all the signs:
-Hardware has stopped being made;
-MS removed reference of future hardware coming;
-Xbox has already started being rebranded to Microsoft Gaming;
-Games are officially going third party."  - bitbydeath

That assume MS isnt all on the same page, about new hardware for xbox.
The "hardware has stopped being made" is apparently from factories in china, where parts for the xbox series consoles have shut down for now.
Likely because they made more than they have sold, and dont want them to continue to pile up in warehouses.  Even PS5 was rumored to have turned down production, after these holidays so.... yeah grain of salt, but its there.

Bitbydeath got quouted with this:

"They literally removed the XBX/S logos off all their games branding (and off the Game Pass branding), and ordered stores to remove physical games and trash them (that have that Xbox Series branding) at MS's own expense.

And the only way to get physical for "4 of the most beloved fan favorites" coming to the largest console platforms, is left up to LRG to provide.

How are people not seeing this?"

"Not to mention Blade was announced without platforms, which is even more interesting now that we know they were in active development of PS5 ports at the time of that announcement (SOT, HiFi Rush, Etc)

And there is a job listing posted by 343 to develop the next Halo for "all players on all platforms."

Pentiment labled as from Micosoft Games studios (not xbox)
Remember the Microsoft Game-pass thingy? (ei. ditching xbox branding)

Right now, it doesn't take much for people to read into things.
Xbox should just be super clear in its messageing.
Instead it looks so messy from the outsides.

Yeah, Japan and Asian games in general are killing it right now, no doubt about that. Look at the most anticipated games for 2024 from both The Game Awards and The Golden Joysticks. The list of most anticipated nominees between the two Awards shows included 6 Asian games, with FF7 Rebirth winning the award on both. Here on VGC's own awards, Most Anticipated for 2024 had 3 JP games on the shortlist, and the category was also won by FF7 Rebirth.

Then look at the accomplishments of Asian games so far this year:

Reviews (80+)

Asian Games

  • FF7 Rebirth- 93
  • Tekken 8- 90
  • Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth- 89
  • Persona 3 Reload- 88
  • Granblue Fantasy Relink- 81
  • UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II SYS:CELES- 82
  • Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy- 81
  • Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II- 81

Western Games

  • Anomaly Agent- 84
  • Lil Guardman- 84
  • Momodora: Moonlit Farewell- 84 (western developed but made in a JP style and published by JP indie Publisher Playism)
  • Helldivers II- 82
  • Home Safety Hotline- 83
  • Boxes: Lost Fragments- 82
  • Islands of Insight- 81
  • Ultros- 81
  • Go Mecha Ball- 81
  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden- 80

With the exception of Helldivers 2 and Banishers, the rest of the western games that reviewed well were basically indie/single A games, many of which only got a handful of reviews. Meanwhile on the Asian list, we have multiple AA and AAA hits from major publishers, and a far higher review average.

Sales/Players

Asian Games

  • Palworld hits 25m players in the first month, including 15m sales on Steam and 10m players on Xbox (Xbox and PC gamepass players plus Xbox copy sales). It also becomes #2 on the Steam Peak Concurrent player charts with 2.1m peak concurrent players
  • Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth sells 1m copies in the first week, a record for the franchise (about doubling it's predecessor, Yakuza 7). It also managed over 45k peak concurrent players on Steam, over 4x higher than the previous Steam record for the Yakuza franchise.
  • Persona 3 Reload sells 1m copies in the first week, a record for an Atlus game. It also achieved over 45k peak concurrent players on Steam, up from 35k on Persona 5 Royal
  • Granblue Fantasy Relink becomes the 7th highest Japanese RPG on the peak concurrent Steam charts, with 114k peak concurrent players (24 hour peak is still 91k 3 weeks after release)
  • Tekken 8 more than doubled Tekken 7 in peak concurrent players on Steam. Namco Bandai also suggested that sales were tracking towards hitting 2m before the end of this quarter (end of March)

Western Games

  • Helldivers 2 sells 1m copies in the first 3 days, and manages 457k peak concurrent players on Steam, putting it in 20th place on that chart, and still has 444k peak in the last 24 hours, 2 weeks after launch

Flops

Western

  • Suicide Squad- 60 on Opencritic. Manages just 13k peak concurrent on Steam (below Arkham Knight and Arkham Origins), down to 1k peak in the last 24 hours, 3 weeks after release. Already out of both Xbox's top 50 most played games chart (US), and TrueAchievements top 40 most played chart on Xbox (all regions).
  • Skull and Bones- 60 on Opencritic. Didn't release on Steam so no way to look at it's peak concurrent players there. Debuted at #23 on Xbox's most played games chart (US version) and #30 on TrueAchievements most played games chart (all regions), behind quite alot of comparable games, including Ubisoft's own AC Valhalla (though it is boosted by being on Gamepass) and on the TrueAchievements chart, behind the now almost 6 year old Sea of Thieves.
  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden- Though it reviewed well, it seems to be a review flop. It was made by the same team at Dontnod as Vampyr, but peak concurrent players are 5x lower than Vampyr. It also failed to make the top 50 most played chart on Xbox (US) and top 40 TrueAchievements (All regions).

Western devs/publishers definitely need to up their game for the remainder of 2024 and beyond.

Japanese games > Western games

Like we already didn't know this.

What crazy is that of the western games listed there.... probably only 1 or 2 intrest me.
While with the Asian games list, apart from the 2 fighting games there, Id probably be intrested in all of them.

"look at the accomplishments of Asian games so far this year"

Def. looks better.

So, anybody else giving FF14 a shot now that it is on Xbox? I spent about 2 hours on character creation last night, only to get a queue when I tried to login, lol, so I gave up for the night. Going to try and hop in again here in a moment.

We may not have FF16 or FF7R 1 or 2 on Xbox to play anytime soon, but you really have no excuse to not play FF14 if you are a Final Fantasy fan, the base game and first 2 expansions packs are free to play, so there is plenty of free content to explore if you don't want to pay $15 a month for the full experience. F2P version is level 1-70 (50 base game levels and 10 each from the first 2 expansions), I think 7 races to choose from, 7 starting classes and 16 jobs (jobs are basically upgraded advanced classes that either branch off from the starting classes, or for the expansion pack jobs, are available after a certain level without a starting class prerequisite).

What if you ain’t a MMO fan? 🥲

You can play through ALOT of the story, solo. With just Duty Supports (npcs).

I played FFXIV on PC, it was good fun. I only got up to level 32. Most of the game can be played solo was the most appealing part for me. I definitely need to get back into it.

They have build out the NPC system, their goal being to allow players to get through the story parts, without being reliant on finding groups.
That said, even if you run into a small part that does require a Raid, doing the odd 1 or 2, with players wouldn't kill most people.
You can play FFXIV as a single player experiance, and still get alot of fun out of it, if thats your goal.
Even if the endgame, is all based around grouping up with others.

I would say 'not investing in it is a certainly lost situation' because who wins if you don't invest? They also not invest in other asian markets so you don't get games like Stellar blade/Genshin Impact etc on xbox.

You may feel that ways about games from Japan but when so many games are game of the year contenders or winners from Japan and Hi Fi Rush being one of the most well received xbox games I don't get that view...

Especially when the biggest Xbox game pass launch is Palworld with more than 10 million players on xbox alone...It is up their with games like Starfield/Halo Infinite/Forza Horizon... and possible beating atleast one of them.

You just mentioned 2 games that really does not make up the complete market.  You totally forget all the other efforts as if they do not exist and then you make assumptions on what they are not doing even though we have information that Sony has locked out MS with other devs and publishers in Japan.  You act as if this stuff is easy.  Just throw a hell of a lot of money at the problem and it fixes itself, but MS went down that route already and it netted them really nothing.

So no, spending huge sums of money trying to get square sloppy seconds is a waste of money when you can spend that money elsewhere.

It's not that I feel that way about Japan games, you only have to look at the sales to see that they are not hitting like they use to.  Even Square recognize this and the reason you are starting to see more support is because that strategy isn't working. The market will change because putting all your huge and expensive games on just one platform is not brining in the profits.  MS realize this a long time ago and now Sony and the rest of the Japan devs and publishers are figuring it out as well.

So no, MS does not have to keep throwing money at the problem what have to do is make sure their AAA games hit hard within the market and the consumers will come.

Well if you invest you may lock out other consoles that isn't that bad like some make it...  Plenty of games that will be day one on xbox and not ps (Ark 2/Stalker 2 as an example)..

It is about investing not throwing money, because they barely invest we now get no userbase and from like the 100 Japanese games that are not on xbox this gen we have 80 games that probably skip xbox because they don't need xbox.

Square is never content and it makes sense but even then, it is going to be PS=> Nintendo if possible=> PC =>>>>>>>>>Xbox.  With the sales and barely any game releases the sales will only get worse for xbox with the possibility that more will skip xbox....

It appears people didn't learn their lesson about making dumb assumptions and creating false rumors.  Idiots again setting themselves up for ridicule.  All this is good for is getting the masses all riled up again and then cry about Xbox not addressing all this bullshit.  Xbox shouldn't address any of these narratives anymore and people should just learn to be more patient.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

Can we stop people from posting this? I mean, seriously, this is now getting completely ridiculous; either the media or most people that have no interest in Xbox in the first place keep coming up with that shit. OH WAIT, THERE IS A DOT THAT DISAPPEARED FROM ONE OF THEIR BLOG... Something is up; let's go crazy and start conspiracy theories about Microsoft selling their Xbox division to Craft Diner; it must be that. Let's start some articles and rumors about it.

The business update was clear, and as straightforward as it could be. They are working on the next-generation consoles AND something for this generation. There is no "maybe."...
People keep coming up with that bullshit and this is tiring at this point, don't you have anything else to do? Play Station has some news, or there is Final Fantasy 7 coming out soon; play the damn demo several times instead of posting that kind of crap.

There is nothing in Xbox last messenging that is NOT clear, anything is just people like you or the medias trying to get some clicks and finding things where there is nothing...

- GamePass is NOT going away just because they updated freaking game page and made it simpler by just writing "consoles/PC" instead of SPECIFIC things like "Xbox Series X/S", nothing there.

- Starfield/Indiana Jones: No, there is NO plan actually to port those things to another console—end of story. The rest is just people making up stuff or even coming up with BS like, "But you never know, maybe in the future, they will. "... Okay, lol, and maybe in the future, Play Station will become a third party, or maybe Nintendo will start selling fridges... I mean, yeah, if we go with the "if or maybe", anything can become "real" right? After all nobody can say that something is 100% certain about anything. But starting rumors about that is getting tiring at this point.

- All Activision/Blizzard games will be DAY 1 on GamePass in the future, including Call of Duty. Nothing in what Microsoft communicated says otherwise. Not a single word.

- Xbox is NOT exiting the hardware business. They are working on a new generation Xbox, and it will have a big leap over the current one (you may argue about how big a leap is, but it is that simple). Anything else is just BS people are making up because they have nothing else to do lately and it brings some clicks.

- Xbox IS going to announce some cool stuff about current-gen hardware (refresh, new controllers, w/e that is, this holiday). CLEAR.

I’m convinced some people either didn’t watch the Business Update or are following anti-Xbox accounts that twist words to create their own narratives.

Sarah Bond literally said they had exciting updates to hardware coming this holiday season and that they’re ALSO investing in the next gen roadmap. That was like 5 seconds apart from each other.

How can anyone claim there was confusion?!
