Big News: Microsoft has completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
— CWA (@CWAUnion) October 13, 2023
Microsoft will remain neutral when Activision Blizzard workers express interest in joining a union, providing a clear path to collective bargaining for almost 10,000 workers. ✊

I must have missed something I thought those rights only included the right to stream those games, not the right to distribute a license to the game in itself. This would normally only be of value to those offering BYOG streaming service So it's either 1 of three things here: 1) The deal with Ubisoft actually includes more than simple streaming right? 2) Ubisoft is also offering BYOG streaming (feel I should know but don't for lack of interest in Ubisoft's offering lol) 3) Ubisoft has negotiated with MS for the right to distribute license to some ABK content (unrelated to the deal). |
I am very interested on this front as well. Because from what I believed and read, UBI only have the cloud streaming rights to ABK games but that did not include the right to just add ABK content to any service. That would mean, UBI can charge MS for putting ABK games on GP which I highly doubt MS would give them that right or even sell it. Also, I highly doubt MS would give UBI the right to put any of ABK games on any download streaming service as that would be insane. As you stated, the only rights I believe UBI has is the ability to stream ABK games which only really works for BYOG services.

It's not that I don't want them to have WRPG's to compete, I just rather they try and build new studios from the ground up for WRPG's, or build a 2nd WRPG team at Guerilla to go alongside Horizon. If Sony were to get Larian or CD Projekt, their games would for sure go PS exclusive (maybe Larian woukd negotiate to stay multiplat during the acquisition talks like Bungie did, but it's not a sure thing). So me wanting Xbox to acquire them is more so about wanting even more good RPG's to play on Gamepass (my favorite game genre by far) and wanting to keep them on Xbox full stop, than it is about not wanting Sony fans to get to play them. Would be more than happy with Xbox acquiring them to get them on Gamepass but keeping them multiplat so Sony fans can still play their fantastic games. |
I get you I guess PS players are probably feeling the same way and hoping Sony buys all their favorite IP (if even just for leverage). That being said The Witcher and Elder Scrolls IP are imo not reproducible - even if Sony takes all their studios and asks them to produce an RPG on that level. I'm hoping Sony and MS can come to an agreement to allow gamepass (or a version of it) on PS systems in the long term. What will most likely allow that - is Sony maintaining a really strong ecosystem and player base. I think their only way to do this is probably to do 1 or 2 major acquisitions themselves - but it doesn't seem like they have the ability to respond.
Ubisoft rights are for Cloud only, that has been confirmed already multiple times, Lol.
Congratulations to @Microsoft and @Activision on successfully completing the @CMAgovUK review process. We look forward to the completion of a deal that has overcome so many challenges. This decision marks an important step towards changing the entire gaming industry for the…

I wonder who will replace Kottick and I can't think of a better fit than Sarah Bond, but she's probably too valued in Xbox leadership team.

I really don't get the logic in replacing Bobby at all. Split Activision and Blizzard apart, they're big boys who can manage themselves. What is the point in having someone being paid a ridiculous amount of money only to report to Phil after receiving reports from Mike and Rob, instead of just having Mike and Rob report directly to Phil.
Would love to see Sarah Bond as Co-CEO of Microsoft Gaming though
